Oxford have super small cohorts too mostly right? So I'm guessing they'll recognise his name at this point, it won't do him any favours. It's sad to get rejected and it does suck but being hung up on it really isn't that healthy and I hope he sets his sights a bit lower. I'm not saying he needs to apply to ex-polys (he seems like the type of person to tit on them tbh) but there are loads of amazing unis that aren't Oxbridge. I think it's sad that studytubers in general have lost sight of that tbh

I know I've mentioned it before but I used to work for a time in a university admissions department and while it wasnt Oxford or similar, they absolutely can tell multiple applications from the same people, generally systems match applications up by name, date of birth etc so duplicates (over multiple years) are picked up. Also names and situations are easily remembered and discussed. Same with the admissions tutors for the course.

The old days of league tables and reputations as being important are slowly dieing. Employability, industry links etc are now taking over. Plus being happy where you study. The top universities do not necessarily offer the best route to employment (depending on courses). If anything the old universities are more stuck in the traditional academic study which doesn't translate to real world skills employers look for. Theory is all very well, but it has to be applied. Obviously something like English Literature which has less real world application probably doesnt factor employability as much

If it's only prestige he's after, he has literally all these other universities he could apply to. He said he wants a specific time period but that's the point of a master's is to start to specialise. I guarantee he's not actually done much research beyond Oxford/Cambridge/Durham because he wants that prestige name. He also needs to consider what he wants to do with his MA, does he want to go into research? If so, a university that offers some form of research training or modules around research would be key for a PhD. He'd never consider my uni cause it's not those three but at least mine offered a lot of research training pre me doing my PhD.

My PhD cohort all did wildly different masters at different unis, we are in a highly competitive funded programme at a Russell group and it didn't seem to matter at all where we did our masters. One guy did Oxford but that was by far the most 'prestigious' - he really needs to stop being so hung up on Oxford and move forward.

As others have said it's really doubtful he would get accepted if he tries again next year.

I know people who went to Oxbridge and HATED the experience and went elsewhere to do their MA and PhD.

Sorry, what is this?
omg 🤣🤣 what a joke of a book. When I saw it I didn’t want to touch it as I wasn’t buying it so I didn’t see the inside of it. You can get all of this info on the internet really easily! Plus how to wake up to your 9am lectures or how to not murder your housemates 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄 I mean cmon

In fairness the basic survival section is possibly useful, its shocking how many come to university without that basic life knowledge

However the work section seems in an odd random order

You mean to say you didn't choose your dissertation topic BEFORE you understood the university grading system? 😉 /S

A few thoughts on his new video
1. What is he actually doing in London - most recent graduates can’t afford to piss about doing nothing for weeks (ik the room is gifted but still he’s literally doing nothing productive)
2. Why did he pick up the book, sign it, and put it back - he’s just forgot about the pandemic
3. Why does he vlog so close to his face? Just why?
4. The hummus story. Wow 😂

He talked about online hate in his new video, mate, if you publish something just accept not everyone is going to like it, your planners were a flop, your book is pamphlet that can be found elsewhere, calm down

Why did ALL of his “backup plans” involve going abroad? Surely he didn’t expect travelling to India, getting an internship abroad or studying abroad to be viable options in the current state of the world, it’s so stupid it’s almost self sabotage

So was he interested in the course or did he just want to go abroad? Cause it wasn't cancelled right? It was just moved online. I get that online teaching just isn't as appealing but it is how things are now. Also his reasons sounded like he just wanted abroad.

he was supposed to move abroad in a month...? so why did he buy so many plants for "his" london room if he was staying only for another month? i know that having a plant is not as committed as having an animal but what the heck is he going to do with all the stuff he bought for his stay in london? just throw it away to the bin?
