I think someone who has actually been mugged would take issue with him claiming an almost mugging by someone trying to take a phone just sat on the table
Calling it a mugging gives off very "Eve Bennett: My flatmate tried to KILL me!" energy.

On the subject of other StudyTubers, has anyone noticed how few original ideas there are and how much they steal each other's content? Jade makes TikTok about how you have to be the main character in your life, Jack makes video about feeling like the main character. Vee makes an essay crisi video, Eve Bennett makes an essay crisis video, Jack makes an essay crisis video. Jade makes a minimalism video, Vee makes a minimalism video. Jade takes herself on a "date", Eve Cornwell takes herself on a "date". I'm sure there are more examples.

All of which are ideas as old as time. It amazes/amuses me that younger generations seem to think they are coming up with revolutionary and new ideas.

What was the “main character” thing about in his new vlog? Surely in your own life you are the main character??? I don’t understand😂

Basically, they were in a busy pub, his phone was down on the table and someone put the menu down and tried to pick it up as they were taking the menu, he mentions how he’d never thought of it, clearly has had a very sheltered life as the cover it with paper trick has been around for a good long while
I'm pretty sure I was told about this trick on my first day of undergrad freshers week because I moved to a big city.

Jack seems to have totally missed the memo that employers do look at one's social media before hiring them and as he's technically a public figure, there's even more info on him than most folks. I can't imagine that the nonstop talk about rejection from Oxford and his habit of procrastination which he publicly broadcasted on his channel (24 hours for a dissertation?) will do him any favours in the long run.

Some of his earlier content was fine but I can see why he's not liked on here.

That's the point, it refers to people losing sight and focus on themselves and attaching themselves too much to others and others needs or actions. Something I guess many of us are guilty of at times.

The individualistic way millennials (as a rule) view the world/society has brought this way of thinking back to the forefront even though it's been around for decades. I studied a little bit the generational differences and this is something that multiple scholars/researchers have identified in the millennial generation.

And yes employers and universities absolutely look at social media

Yeah the whole main character thing is about putting yourself and your needs and happiness first. I think it started as kind of reclaiming yourself after toxic friendships/relationships and things like that but I do agree that it's crossed over into narcissism a little bit. For me it's more about relying on myself and being happy on my own, and anyone or anything in my life adding more to my whole self rather than the idea of people and things "completing" me. Hope that makes sense lmao

It's one of these zillennial things born from tiktok, kind of like the "Heather" trend too, about being the person everyone wants to be or wants to be with.

Urgh, his IG Q&A was another excuse for #ad for Unite Students. He seems so out of touch, not listening to the comments about how much of a bad reputation that company has. Doesn't he realise that his experience was always going to be amazing because the company made sure that it was? If his experience was bad, he's not going to keep promoting them - he doesn't seem to have put the pieces together.

He definitely got a friend to ask the question too so he could plug it.

I'm sure the really expensive studio he's in is nice, but it's also around £390 per week (note sure which one exactly he's in, theres a few in Camden).
That's waaaaay out of most students budgets!
The cheaper Unite students places seem to be terrible from other peoples reviews. As you say, they'll also be trying hard to impress him.

If he wants Oxford so bad... why doesn’t he apply to a humanities course there with a much less competitive intake? There are tonnes of MA courses which are 100% reading, theory and writing and I’m sure there are a few at the hallowed Hogwarts Oxford. It’s not the most scrupulous route to admissions but it would also prove he’s somewhat flexible and interested in the humanities and critical thinking in general, not just someone who ‘loves reading’. Heaven forbid, he could even apply to Cambridge

Ibz is going to Oxford... that's gonna hurt.
But you look at what he’s done before Cambridge too and the statement he’s made about his viewers thanking them, Jack isn’t suited to oxbridge, he clearly isn’t critical enough for them, time he accepted it and moved on, he only had Oxford has his option this year, time he didn’t make the same mistake again

Tbf, Ibz's course probably has more places than a niche English course like the one Jack is interested in. That being said, Ibz is obviously Oxbridge material.
I might see if I can find the course page for Jack's preferred course and see what it says. Edit: There's nothing too specific on there about admission numbers, but it must be extremely selective nevertheless.

I think someone posted earlier they have 90 applicants to 80 spaces, so he only missed out by a little bit which I suppose is more frustrating

Perfectly said!

I'm very happy for Ibz! He has come a long way and now he's going to be a postgraduate at Oxford, however, I'd like to ask a question
I'm not from the UK (as you can tell from my broken English haha) and I don't really know how the applications for Oxbridge work, but I was wondering...how is it possible that Ibz, after years of bashing Oxford, got a place, and Jack, because of doing "a dissertation in 24h", doesn't deserve a place? Didn't you say that the Unis check their prospective students' social media? Did Ibz got a place due to his critical point of views?
I don't mean to excuse Jack's behavior, it's just curiosity about how the applications process work!

By the way, I saw this comment and I laughed out loud haha:

Well it's not necessarily just social media that impacts a uni decision, just that it's an influence, or can be. It also depends how much attention is drawn to it in their application. If Jack goes on about being a published author with a big social media following then that will make them look into him more whereas someone who doesnt make a big deal about it may not be looked into more. There are lots of things that can impact a university application, the media aspect is just one. They will be assessing an overall profile. Criticism of oxford may come off as showing critical thinking and not being hung up on oxfords reputation. We arent saying these are 100% why someone is rejected or accepted just that this are valid and potential reasons for the decision
