It will be interesting to see if the book videos continue away from recognisable clickbait titles. At the moment he is clearly doing them as a way to make money off the back of other pop culture people/shows (Taylor swift, Harry styles, bridgerton).

She wasn't able to afford it before, so she wasn't sure if she would even go because she couldn't receive funding, she didn't earn it just due to youtube but also the amount of sponsorships her management got her (just giving context in case many people here don't keep up with her) But I do agree, Jack will definitely have a significant amount of money.

Yeah, sorry, that was a pretty harsh post. Didn't mean to come across so crabby, but I've been in a Jack's situation before when my ex boyfriend was really jealous of my best friend, so I guess I was riled up.

I've watched a couple of his videos but they are too cringe to keep with. He also isnt exactly a great representation of being a student. He is just your typical youtuber, makes it all about him. However as he is putting himself out there then yes he does have to announce his grades, not doing so makes him inauthentic, which as a uni student you would think he would have learnt that it's important to be authentic. If he really does final year essays in a matter of hours then his results probably arrent the best.

As for his sexuality it isnt anyones business but again when you put yourself out there.... Anyway I think the video he did with the guy from bake off was pretty telling

Something doesn’t sit right with me about him, I just find him a bit cringey and a bit naive? He was definitely too hung up about Oxford, I think he was arrogant about the fact he would get a place and hadn’t thought about any alternatives

And also, I was so surprised when he said he had a girlfriend, I couldn’t imagine any girl finding him attractive tbf I think he’s gay for sure but just hasn’t figured it out yet

Maybe he thought that if he was willing to work hard enough, he'd get admitted. Not sure if that's so much arrogance as living in a supposed meritocracy.

It’s been speculated on beauty spectrum‘s thread that unite were the ones who paid her £10k plus she got to live there, so how much did jack get on top of not paying anything for it? I’ll never get these oxbridge and ”elite“ studytubers who would never live in these types of accommodation and advertise clearing apps they’d never use, it’s really poor taste

It's the sort of book I would imagine a well-meaning Aunt would buy, it might be useful but certainly nothing that a quick look on student forms can't help with.

Yes!! When I was a student I learnt through trial and error and google
I just printed tonnes of recipes & my dad even gave me a ‘how to’ guide for around the house , I used the manual for the washing machine probably the first 20 times I used it, but I got by? As do the hundreds of thousands of students each year
If there was demand for that type of book, I imagine the market would have already been filled

Looks like Jack has always left studying till the last minute. It’s not really an effective technique for a lot of people and Jack shouldn’t encourage students to follow his lead and leave really important essays and exams till the last minute. It’s doesn’t make you look cool it makes you look like a twat.

Revising all the content is not the fault of the education system - that’s just part of what you have to do as a fucking student. Jack is so fucking pretentious and arrogant, and really he doesn’t know what it’s like for students who struggle and are disadvantaged by this system.

Btw I don’t agree with the current education system or the government that introduced it but Jacks take on this is really pathetic.

Also what does everyone think is Jacks stance on politics as he did it for a level and is obviously criticising the Tory government but doesn’t explicitly say he supports labour

I am already sick of his thrifting videos, what else can he possibly offer in lockdown? Reading challenges I guess.

Edit: I was thinking he should remove all the references to his author and influencer status from his LinkedIn and CV and market his soft skills learned in his degree (analytical skills, problem solving and communication) and willingness to learn to employers. Who wants to work with a kid in an entry level/grad role who just talks about his book and social media successes? Would turn me right off.

Any sensible and vaguely intelligent person would do exactly that. Influencer especially will get more eyes rolling than being impressed and doesn't tell employers anything

If it's only prestige he's after, he has literally all these other universities he could apply to. He said he wants a specific time period but that's the point of a master's is to start to specialise. I guarantee he's not actually done much research beyond Oxford/Cambridge/Durham because he wants that prestige name. He also needs to consider what he wants to do with his MA, does he want to go into research? If so, a university that offers some form of research training or modules around research would be key for a PhD. He'd never consider my uni cause it's not those three but at least mine offered a lot of research training pre me doing my PhD.

Harvard and Oxford, two different nations. Plus requirements vary from one university to another in the UK alone depending on each universities internal culture. His videos do not give a good impression of him as a student, I'm not saying that's the only reason but it wont exactly have helped him. Someone clearly after fame and attention isnt necessarily an attractive quality either. Couple that with maybe his application just wasnt good enough it's not exactly a surprise. I also suspect oxford really want a first even though they may say 2.1 can apply. They may consider a 2.1 (assuming that's what he has) if the applicant can bring something else to the table but a 2.1 alone probably wont cut it.

Another thing is that he used the term “shielding” in his explanation, not really the right thing to say when some people have not left their houses for 3 months and Jack has travelled up to Durham to stay in a second home. Jack makes everything about him, the “ dramatic” statement on twitter makes him come across as attention seeking
