I think Jack’s arrogance refuses to let him see that he isn’t actually anything special in terms of all the other grads looking for work. He comes across as being so entitled.
Too much success too young, in a way. He made a brand off the back of being a uni student... but the achievement is in the marketing, not in the English degree.

For the record it's "influencer manager" not influencer that he's applied for. But in the tweet he literally called himself a "book influencer" when tweeting the woman advertising the job despite spending weeks saying he isn't one.

Also apart from being an influencer himself I don't actually know what experience he has to be qualified for a manager role. He's a fresh graduate he'd maybe be able to fast track himself from entry-level to associate level roles, maybe exec but not a bloody manager
I had a sneaky look at the job description and it isn’t a managerial role in the traditional sense (giving appraisals, monitoring job performance of staff etc) and I agree he’s not qualified for that.

It seems to be building relationships and sourcing influencers to then promote penguin stuff, which he could probably do... like fair enough.. what I don’t get is why he even sent that message? Was he trying to be smart by showing himself off to the person who put the job out as a possible candidate? All the information is available on the link, just click through and complete the form like all the other plebs have to 😂

Oxford have super small cohorts too mostly right? So I'm guessing they'll recognise his name at this point, it won't do him any favours. It's sad to get rejected and it does suck but being hung up on it really isn't that healthy and I hope he sets his sights a bit lower. I'm not saying he needs to apply to ex-polys (he seems like the type of person to shit on them tbh) but there are loads of amazing unis that aren't Oxbridge. I think it's sad that studytubers in general have lost sight of that tbh

It’s probably not for me to question someone’s intentions, but it seems to me that a lot of influencers make a platform for themselves by sharing their life online and then moan something chronic when people ask questions or hold them to account.

(Rant over!)
I feel like studytubers are caught between a rock and a hard place re: how much of their life to share and how much of it to make their brand. They are just another "flavour" of influencer, but because most of them started young, in school, it was a lot less about the lifestyle aspect and more of the studying/school content. But, as they and their viewers inevitably leave education there is a gaping hole where a lot of the content would have stemmed for, hence the turn to more lifestyle-ish/bookish content.

So I get why Jack might feel conflicted about his role online when he is no longer a studytuber. The alternative is to become yet another lifestyle influencer (an extremely surreal/dystopian job imo) and I don't think he's really going for that. He's used to having an online presence and a decent following, but he probably doesn't think of himself as an "influencer". Anyway, I'm glad he's finally landed a job he enjoys and maybe his content will become more career-centered like Eve Cornwell's down the line.

Slightly off topic but Vee Kativhu just posted on her Instagram that she made 26k over the last 3(!) months.
If Jack‘s earning anything close to that it is no wonder he can afford his flat in london (and on top a trip to Berlin which is a whole other story. WHY TRAVEL DURING A PANDEMIC?! Especially since Berlin‘s one of the worst places for Covid in Germany rn).
No wonder she can afford harvard

His girlfriend is not what I expected, she doesn’t seem up herself and didn’t seem too posh either which is the type I was expecting him to go for, maybe she’ll keep him grounded for a bit longer, I did like the book swap video, would be good if he did this with more people
I also liked how they tried to get some of them from second hand websites too

A few thoughts on his new video
1. What is he actually doing in London - most recent graduates can’t afford to piss about doing nothing for weeks (ik the room is gifted but still he’s literally doing nothing productive)
2. Why did he pick up the book, sign it, and put it back - he’s just forgot about the pandemic
3. Why does he vlog so close to his face? Just why?
4. The hummus story. Wow 😂

I hate everything he wears. His Instagram pics are just a huge collection of ugly outfits that not don't look good, items that don't go with each other, don't suit him and make him scream he is trying too hard.

And the vests...🤢🤢🤮🤮

Not sure if it was on this thread or someone else‘s
but didn‘t someone who works in admissions say that re-applying over and over again does not sit well with colleges and won‘t increase your chances of getting in?
If that‘s true then hopefully Jack will focus on getting some experience and then re-apply in a few year when he has enhanced his CV.

My birthday was during the actual lockdown, Jack you're not the only one who had a shitty birthday this year.
My birthday was in lockdown too in May, I literally had a takeaway and watched telly🤣 Birthdays aren’t that big of a deal anyway unless you are immature like Jack is. Just celebrate in a different way or wait until there isn’t a deadly virus about

Ugh yes, this. It's become his thing but I don't know if he should be proud. It's irritating.
Hey guys it's Jack *zoom in* back at it again. *zoom out* I'm always saying such *zoom in* PUNNY things. *zoom out* I thought I'd show you some *zoom in* aDuLtInG today.

It's just so cringe that he puts pauses deliberately in his sentences to make it easier for himself to edit in the zooms. 😑

A little out of topic, but I don't know if it's just me but I've actually been enjoying his videos about books! He should leave his study content behind and just focus on booktube.

His book dedication is:

"This book is dedicated to my A Level Biology teacher, who told me it was time to start aiming lower - I'm glad I didn't."

Which strikes me as a bit petty really? Like he's hung up on something one teacher said to him five years ago.

He needs to move on, my time in school was awful with all of my teachers because they didn't understand my learning disability. Uni improved my life tenfold and I don't sit and think about them all day 🙄
Is that the only dedication?

What about the teachers that helped him along the way, his family or loved ones?

edit: that also assumes that he believes this book proves to the teacher that he shouldn't lower his standards which he kind of has?

I actually didn't mean with regards to the books he reads, but the way he discussed the celebrity poems in his recent video. For someone as arrogant as he is to describe Lana Del Rey's poetry as 'a cross between Walt Whitman and Sylvia Plath' is hilarious to me. People can read what they want if they want to read at all, but don't be saying ridiculous statements like that if you present yourself as an authoritative voice on literature, which he definitely believes he is.
These book videos are really taking off but I wish he’d spend more time dissecting the actual text instead of just making puns and do progressive updates throughout books as he reads. The formula: “I’m going to read this book”, “I’ve now read this book” gets boring

haha oh yeah on that I agree. and from the bits I've seen it's hardly high literature. Karen jokes arent exactly the epitome of quality writing

Its basically blog posts tied together. nothing wrong in that but I think he is letting his moderate success get the better of him

Someone watched his video? Did he seriously got *almost* mugged?
Basically, they were in a busy pub, his phone was down on the table and someone put the menu down and tried to pick it up as they were taking the menu, he mentions how he’d never thought of it, clearly has had a very sheltered life as the cover it with paper trick has been around for a good long while

he was supposed to move abroad in a month...? so why did he buy so many plants for "his" london room if he was staying only for another month? i know that having a plant is not as committed as having an animal but what the heck is he going to do with all the stuff he bought for his stay in london? just throw it away to the bin?

He’s gone back to Durham even though it’s classed as a second home. I’m a Durham student and we got an email specifically saying that it violates lockdown rules to go back and stay with friends, unless it’s just to collect belongings. They even said that going back to have parties will result in the police being called - and it looked to me like he was definitely having a party with his housemates. He’s been there at least a week now - plenty of time to get his things but he’s still there with 3 other people from (I assume) 3 other households. Bit hypocritical to preach stay at home and then break the rules.

He could have easily just taken a picture and said omg there was literally no need to touch his mask and then touch a book someone else will purchase

he definitely made the first tweet out of anger, then the second one to try and justify his words & actions

hi jack! How does is feel to be a hypocrite
