He moved back home for Christmas like he thinks he’s a student? I bet he didn’t go home in the student window or get tested, and he will probably go back to London without any care about testing or if he might have covid. He is obviously one of those people who fled London at the weekend, it’s totally irresponsible

In fairness he’s been living on his own for well over a month now? So technically he’s a single household so he can have a support bubble and go home? I don’t know if I’ve got that wrong but whilst he should have gone home much earlier I don’t know if he’s legally done anything wrong?

Is it just me who doesn't understand why he makes a big deal out of being a first-generation uni student? Maybe I'm missing something because I'm not one. Personally, both my parents went to uni, but that was 30+ years ago in a foreign country with a completely different system. For most people with parents that went to uni, their parents' experiences are outdated and probably not all that helpful?

When it came for me to start thinking about uni, it was my school that explained the application system and me who did all the research. The only way in which my parents were involved was by being supportive of my decision. I'm definitely sure that it might be less likely for parents to be supportive if you're the first one in the family to go to uni. But provided your parents are supportive, I don't see how being a first-gen uni student or not makes much difference?

Completely agree. I’m a 1st generation university student myself and I myself am middle class (my parents weren’t when they were my age and worked their way up). In my opinion, being a 1st generation student hasn’t made my experience so far any different to say my housemate who’s parents are both doctors. We discussed it before and we recognise that other people have had it harder than us and we’re very fortunate but being the first person in my family to go to uni hasn’t made any difference in my case. Me and my housemate both had to learn new things about living independently/studying etc.

I feel like my point has gone off on a tangent but going to university no matter what generation you are is a big achievement and shouldn’t be frowned upon if your family has been going to university for decades/if you’re the first in your family.

Ok forgive my ignorance, but why is it Oxford that all of these studytubers seem obsessed with? Just find it interesting that far more of them seem to apply and go there over Cambridge.

I would guess it is because Oxford are traditionally seen as stronger in literature/humanities whereas Cambridge are known for their STEM/maths in particular. Jade probably opted for Oxford because of the natural sciences course at Cambridge not suiting her, but it explains why Eve Bennett, Ruby and Jack would opt for Oxford if they were looking for the highest prestige factor

not the only thing he's backtracking/contradicting himself on, his Oxford rejection videos are also listed again. i thought "it was time to part with those videos" as he didn't want to be defined by them? making it even more obvious that his twitter rant stemmed from reading here

I presume he saw a drop in revenue after unlisting them - he did say in his twitter rant that they kept coming up in people's YouTube recommended lists (hence why he felt defined by them), but if they are the best-performing videos on your channel and are boosted by the algorithm...

Something I noticed! He got gifted a new laptop in his last video and did nothing but rave about how good it is and used it in the video, only to show on tiktok that he’s still using his MacBook Pro

anna lenks also filmed a video saying how good computer it was, and in yesterday's or today's IG stories she was clearly working on her macbook pro again....it clearly shows that these influencers are the last people who need free devices or gadgets from those big companies

I just don't understand how someone with first from a top university can think YouTube is a long term career solution and prioritise that over getting a job or getting on and getting a masters. If he isn't careful he will end up wasting his degree. It will become worthless after a while with no practical experience to back it up and fresh graduates coming up behind him with more current degrees.

Hell even mega youtube stars have had to diversify.

the problem is he has backed himself into a corner by making a living and lifestyle of being a student and thats all over now. He has clearly let it go to his head over the years, his ego is very evident. He strikes me as someone who maybe wasnt the most popular or coolest kid at school and has now found himself 'popular' and 'cool' in his small bubble. And that's all come to an end. He is in the real world now.

If he really wanted to do a masters he would go elsewhere, the Oxford obsession is ego driven. He may not think so but it's amazing what can come through in application forms. Plus if they have checked out his social media then that would possibly work against him too.

That was my reaction - it just reflects his immature mindset. He still hasn't learned that his videos can be viewed by potential employers as well as his loyal fans.

Given I saw him asking for details on twitter on how to apply for some sort of influencer marketing role in a publishing house literally only a few days ago... I would not be posting that now after giving the new potential employer a way to see it by them already knowing his twitter handle. Let alone if the people he's currently working for see it.
