you can get fined £100 for not wearing a mask, but because Jack is a YouTuber it’s okay wtf. He needs to learn that actions have fucking consequences

Has he addressed why he has free accommodation in London yet?
I don't blame him for taking it per se, London is pricey and I'm sure it's a lot of pressure moving there. BUT... he's not a student. I couldn't imagine anything worse than living with students if I wasn't one. Also, imagine going into student accommodation with someone who wasn't a student and was getting it for free. I'd be pretty annoyed.

I completely completely agree. I know being in the transitional year was really rough for me and personally I felt had a negative impact on my grades whereas others seemed to be fine with it, so although I can understand if he found it harder it is subjective. What is for certain though is that students this year have been truly objectively fucked over and I don’t think he should be comparing the two situations or trying to make out like he had it just as tough. Like others have said too, he’s ultimately privileged and I can’t imagine getting the grades he did without getting some level of support from his school - which students right now must be lacking.
He should have just said "good luck everyone and hope you get what you want. If you dont, don't worry there are options put there"...rather than bringing it to be about himself.

Yeah I’m wondering about the Oxford thing too, I mean if they haven’t accepted him twice then he surely has to do something drastically different to improve his chances this time? Though I’m from Ireland so I’m not as familiar with how Oxford works.

Surely he should just apply to another university to do his Masters at this stage? I’m half worried for his mental health, he seems really fixated on getting into Oxford and I’d say the studytube’s general obsession with Oxford is fuelling alot of it. He’d be much better off if he just did his Masters somewhere else surely.
Previous rejections are taken into account during the process, now he has two I very much doubt they will take him on.

I sort of feel bad for him but also maybe this is the time he just moves on from the whole Oxford thing.

Urgh, his IG Q&A was another excuse for #ad for Unite Students. He seems so out of touch, not listening to the comments about how much of a bad reputation that company has. Doesn't he realise that his experience was always going to be amazing because the company made sure that it was? If his experience was bad, he's not going to keep promoting them - he doesn't seem to have put the pieces together.

Lurker here, I find jack an insufferable TWAT. I hope he sees this, I couldn’t give a FUCK if he does. So glad he’s left Durham, after my gap year I can finally apply :)))

I don't have anything against Jack but what I took from watching him in the same video as another YouTuber was that Jack isn't down to earth at all. He just speaks in a very "media trained" way (that's the best definition I can give) and of course, some of his advice isn't accurate. And the tone of his videos are a tad condescending, even if I don't think he intends it to be.

does anyone else find it irritating how Jack Edwards is capitalising the success of BTS just for views?!? He's got over 700K videos for such a bog-standard analysis on BTS' music videos and that's probably what's made him make even more BTS related stuff. He knows his channel will be boosted for views and he's monetising off it. I laughed so much when I read this tweet. Why doesn't he just do the research himself? Maybe I'm cynical but I've seen it happen with Unjaded Jade too. They all just talk about BTS for views and never go into any depth..

I don't really watch Ibz Mo (I only really watch studytube to gossip about it, let's be honest) and he seemed chill and normal so I left him to do his thing. I watched his vid about why he applied to Oxford after reading this thread and the difference between his and Jack's videos are astonishing. He has a great deal of self awareness and I loved that he was very transparent about what he wants to study and why, most studytubers guard it like it's some precious secret (or they're clueless). Very different vibe to Jack trying to turn 'rejected by oxford twice' into a cringey meme. Admittedly I didn't watch his rejected from Harvard video so don't know how he deals with that side of things, but I think Oxford made a great catch. Bravo Ibz

Completely agree. I've thought that for the last couple of years. Its been a gradual thing.

He seems lost now tbh since uni has finished. He is trying way too hard to become an influencer and its just coming across as fake and pretentious.
Thing is he has the scope to do the whole book tube thing, his current ideas are not bad, he just needs to reign in a lot of what he thinks make him popular aka the puns....

Someone I follow posted a photo of their online class that they were teaching. about 15 students and not one had their webcams on so it was just greyed out generic profile silhouettes they were talking to. Soul destroying and demotivating for lecturers with no feedback to work from

i agree! For uni students like me it’s so irritating to be paying so much for online classes, but it’s to keep us safe, so we accept it. Not like the influencers that seem to put their social lives and videos above the safety of people
This!! Online uni is so hard and these influencers just go about doing whatever the fuck they want without a care about the restrictions. No social distancing or masks and for what? It’s not even like he’s been to see family he hasnt been able to see, or gone abroad for a longer holiday. But going on loads of shorter holidays to different places, fucking about for Instagram pictures and videos is disgusting when people are dying. I’ve been pretty much alone for weeks and I’ve caught covid from a flat mate, makes me so fucking angry that influencers think they are above the law

For the MSt English courses according to Gradcafe and TSR forum it seems like a lot of people are still awaiting a decision. It seems like they did send out some offers and waitlist offers on Friday and today, but no one has reported a rejection yet. And from previous years it seems like they usually send out offers first and then the rejections a few days after. Doesn't mean they're aren't any rejections already, maybe people just aren't reporting them. But considering he unlisted the videos weeks ago it could've been because he didn't want them to appear if the admissions team went on his channel, rather than a reaction to getting a rejection.

So I am Dominican and one of the books his gf gave him was Dominicana by Angie Cruz (fantastic book btw) which is deeply special to Dominican women since it tells the story of a 14yo girl who is forced to immigrate among other things. I just wanted to say that it bothered me when his gf referenced "South America" since DR is in the Carribean and nowhere near South America. She could have said Latin American and been correct. As a person from there, it really irked me in a petty way lol.
