I agree. Jade went off the deep-end after doing Minerva content (as most of her viewers don't consider it a real university or a relatable experience), and Ruby's obsession with a variety of 'aesthetics' has left most of her original academic audience very bewildered.
Out of all the Oxford rejects, I think Jack is prob doing the best. Jade just completely turned 180 to a scam university she's convinced herself to be way better than Oxford, and Ruby Granger just hunkered down/ regressed to those weird childhood tendencies of hers.

He does use clickbait and seo keywords well, and I wonder how many of his views are from his subscribers, or from the YouTube algorithm recommendations thanks to his constant use of celebrities. Are his viewers really invested and engaged in him, or do they just care about whichever celebrity he is posting about.

I just bought a new book today, and managed to break the spine after only a few minutes of what I'd consider careful handling while reading. Jack's claim that he doesn't break the spine of any book he reads is such BS.
In Jack's case, the unbroken spine thing really doesn't line up with his claim that he also happily dog-ears and annotates his books.

If someone cares enough about the physical condition of a book that they'll avoid opening the pages fully when reading each page (which is what you'd have to do to avoid spine creases), there's no way they'd be whipping out pen to scribble inside and folding over page corners all over the place.

Just getting through the new video.

It really bugs me that he doesn't really give reasons as to why a book is so good. Like with Akala, he just says the most generic things like "it's so important, so poignant" what do you mean? Just because you're white and read a black person's account of growing up in the UK means that you automatically give 5 stars? I'd like to know what is in the book or themes mentioned, what have you learnt? Saying "this is SUCH an important book" is meaningless. Yet he does provide a decent review of books he rated low as opposed to avg rating on goodreads. Like with Educated.

That Educated part made me laugh. Of course he would be interested in how exactly a person with no educational background or quote an oppressed background got a place at Cambridge when HE - Jack Edwards - failed to get into Oxbridge 😂 can't believe he rated a book low because it didn't explicitly explain this lol also rated anither book low because he got confused as to who was the narrator was at times. That's kind of the point, though, you read and try to understand what's going on. Where's his detective cap 😂

You can tell Jack has been reading Tattle from his latest video.

He spent 13 minutes trying to convince us he really reads all these books “look at the folded pages” *tss giggle* “I’m great at never cracking a spine” pull the other one Jacky.

Also what avid reader doesn’t know the word “dog-eared” when talking about the folded edges of a page!?!!

Had to come here because I put one of his book videos on in the background while I'm working.

"You're telling me that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and none of us knew?" - some of us knew, Jack. How hard would it to be to say "I didn't know" and not assume that you're the smartest person in the room at all times 🤪

I haven’t watched the GB news clip, but I find it bizarre he was supposedly invited to argue against the notion that most Durham students are Oxbridge rejects, but just reinforces it. He just needs to accept that he wasn’t good enough and move on.

To be honest, If he releases a novel, I imagine most readers would have no idea who he is. I have visions of it being on the same level as Ruby Grsnger’s novel. I don’t really understand what his followers see in him, but the adoration he receives is cringeworthy.

I am surprised he has released a video on romance novels. I’ve not watched it, but it’s interesting that he feels qualified to comment on this genre.

Any news about getting a proper job yet?

Jade needs to stop with these fantasies.
They all need to.

There was nothing wrong with Jack saying "Since I'm in Paris, I thought I'd check out the filming locations from Emily in Paris!" Well, y'know, other than there being infinitely more things to see in Paris than the location of a Netflix show that everyone forgot about months ago.

Instead, they always have to blatantly fabricate some grand cosmic arrangement of circumstance as though the universe was designed only for them to prove their "main character energy". It's Jack all over: Just lie about shit and chase viral trends months too late.

What makes the “YouTube’s resident librarian” thing even weirder is that he isn’t even the most popular BookTuber.

It’s a bit like Jesy Nelson calling herself “Britain’s most successful female vocalist” when Adele is right there.

I am so annoyed at his Emily in Paris-esque portrayal of Paris. Like dude, people don’t listen to La Vie en Rose and accordion music. If he actually took time to observe the culture and interact with the locals, he’d learn that French rap is one of the most listened to genres at the moment.

But no, he has to show us the cliché Paris.
I'm genuinely surprised that he hasn't bought himself a beret, a blue and white striped top, and bunch of onions hang around his neck.

Jack the Librarian waits until Library User has gone, then turns to the camera.

Jack the Librarian: "Well, that happened...

...Did I mention I read 164 books last year? Yes, while some were out there living lives, I was living vicariously through fictional wives. Get yourself a guy who can do both.

164 books. Some were bangers, some were clangers. Some were top tier, some brought me to tears. But let me tell you all about those creme de la creme, primo-dreamo, would-definitely-swipe-right-on-them nuevo classics that you all have to read."

The library manager walks by and eyes Jack with confusion.

Library Manager: "...Who are you talking to?"

Jack the Librarian, undeterred by the intrusion of reality, continues his self-aggrandisement:

Jack the Librarian: First, I read "The waves" by Virginia Woolf. (holds up book) And, not going to lie, at first, I was all at sea with that one guys. See
what I did. Getit? "see what I did?"/ "sea what I did?" Anyway, I read that beauty - why would I lie about it? - and I was not
afraid of the big bad woolf.
Next, we have a Harry Styles' recommendation of: "My Muppet Christmas". And - no spoilers - there are muppets, there is
Christmas. Five star read. (mouths: I LOVE YOU HARRY into camera)
I also read this, big doorstep - "War and Peace". It's about a war, in Russia. There's this guy who goes to war. Then there's
peace. Not going to mention the characters, or the plot, or, really anything at all in the book, but I totally read it, in only a couple
of hours, because I am that clever, and Oxford was WRONG! (starts blubbing)

I haven’t watched it but it’s not just about being state educated, it’s the type of state school you go to, grammar schools count in what he’s talking about but that already includes privilege, he’s not even working class ffs! Honestly this social justice shit that some of these oxbridge rejects have gone on is a joke, fuck off Jack

haven’t donated the money to a charity trying to change this have you…..

I used to think youtubers acted dumb for likes and engagement but tbh, working with students for many years there does seem to be a steady increase in those that are supposedly academically strong but lack any common sense or logic at all. It's worrying some days considering the job roles they are training for

Just watched the haul vid and got vaguely annoyed that he said he's writing about grief in his book (and is reading Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to learn about grief). He makes it sound like (and from what he's shared) he's never really had to deal with grief, so it makes me feel like he won't be equipped to write about it. Not to say you can only write about things you've experienced but in my experience, people our age (I'm around Jack's age) don't know shit about grief and bereavement unless they've personally experienced losing someone close to them. Idk not trying to be too negative, he might do a great job but I've just had so many bad experiences with people being extremely insensitive around grief that I got a bit annoyed at that

I find this with most YouTube personalities. I'll never understand what's wrong with being yourself and saying 'hey guys, here are some books and here's my thoughts.' Instead they all put on this fake quirky and 'chaotic' act. It's painful to sit through.
I couldn't even make it a minute into his latest video.

It's like a bunch of overused influencer clichés, personality traits, catchphrases and buzzwords were fed into an AI content generator, they cranked up the cringe filter and Jack Edwards is what got spat out by the algorithm.

I'm really perplexed by his last video. Like is it just Jack being Jack or is reading non English books not a thing in like the USA, UK and AUS/NZ? I thought everyone had read translated books, like he makes it sounds like it's something super rare and out there to do, im just confused
