Just looked at the Twitter thread and find all the fawning slightly nauseating. I notice someone describes him as an ‘A1 bibliophile’. Perhaps it is just me but I tend to think of a bibliophile as someone who reads books from a range of genres (not just fiction) and has a deep love of literature. I don’t follow his content closely, but I think most of Jack’s videos tend to be responses to various popular works of fiction made ‘famous’ by ‘celebrities’. Please correct me if I’ve got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Spot on. Every book he “reads” is always a Waterstones bestseller or a trendy-celeb virtue signalling novel about something he thinks is “amazing” or profound. When in actual fact he just looks like he has no taste in books. If I have to hear him talk about Hamnet or A Little Life one more time.

Kate put a vlog up of her trip to Paris and in it she confirmed he was supposed to be living in NYC but because of the situation couldn’t so went to Paris.

I kind of feel sorry for him, he seems a bit directionless right now. I feel like staying in the UK and getting a 'normal' job might have been better growth for him in all honesty.

In fairness, I find Jack to be one of those people where once one thing annoys you about him, every little thing starts to.

Like how low his ears are on his head. It makes me irrationally annoyed for no reason.

Mathieu Kassovitz's film is so so good. But I fear Jack's reviews/analysis/understanding of La Haine would be as surface level as his book reviews.

Big fan of the fact that the books he chose for his 'books to read in your 20s' are mostly just some recently hyped releases - Sally Rooney, Cleopatra and Frankenstein, Assembly, Pure Colour etc. If he didn't read it in the last 3 months it doesn't exist lmao. I honestly feel like it's the other way round maybe? he's not mysterious because he's "hiding something", I think he's trying to appear elusive/mysterious by vaguely mentioning these friends that he's going out with to super exclusive restaurants and only coming home in the morning. If he was trying to hide smth, he wouldn't have mentioned it at all?

He’s in France alone so sets up and takes all of these photos himself. That is just super cringe just as cringe as the fake “read with me” shots and fake “zoom meeting look how busy I am” shots. Yikes.

While I don't particularly like Jack (he's too try hard in most of his videos) I have to hand it to him that he's made a legitimate successful transition from studytube to booktube and probably done the best out of his generation of studytubers (eve, jade, ruby, iz etc) in keeping his audience. His audience and subscriber base definitely helped him get into booktube but in comparison to a lot of youtubers who start making videos about education/when they're in uni, he's adapted his content pretty well.

His views are very high, he is really riding the celeb click bait videos. Curious to see how long he can make it last. He is likely making enough to live off from those. Plus he seems to have gone full influencer mode so will be getting money from those sponsored posts/trips.

His worry should be what will happen when youtube stops. He hasn't started his career away from youtube, and if youtube dies off and his influencer status has an expire date what will he do then. Degrees have less worth the older they get if you haven't built a career from graduation to go alongside having the degree. Employers will want new graduates for entry jobs, or people with experience for higher level.
