I am the proud owner of a ban from Digitalspy for saying something similar. That men are never told they are 'people with prostates' or told what they should call themselves. I suspect once people find out that their daughters are having to share changing rooms and toilets with a physically intact teenage boy and have to compete with male athletes their eyes will be open in a way it hasn't been by having vulnerable women in prisons and refuges at risk because they aren't on their radar. The woke on Twitter are a minority. They shut down debate so they think they are speaking for everyone. FWIW I dont mind unisex cubicles either, as long as its everyone. All I have seen is mens toilets and unisex toilets. What about mtf trans men? Or do they not count?

They hate us because they know in their heart of hearts that they will never become real women. The only way they can live with that fact is with the affirmation of basically everyone else around them that yes, they are real women, but when that inevitably doesn’t happen all the time, because biology actually matters in life, they have a full on meltdown and of course that’s a woman’s fault as well as having the audacity to be born female. So it’s ok for women to be threatened with rape, murder and doxxing, but stating an immutable biological fact like how men literally cannot become women gets you labelled as a hateful terf & a bigot and results in said threats.

I don’t think I’ve seen any of that kind of violent vitriol coming from a ‘terf’. The worst I’ve seen is ‘transwomen are men’ which whilst it may not be a nice thing to say, you could argue is correct from a biology standpoint (biology doesn’t have manners). Funny old world we live in.

Does any one else think it's interesting that people are spitting feathers because JKR is standing up for protection of women and their safe spaces and being 'cancelled' for lack of a better word yet Roman Polanski and Woody Allen still have their films made and aired with very little criticism or protest.

I know that one published puller out of Woody Allen's autobiography but that was more to do with Ronan Farrow being linked with them and his criticism imo.

I mean, TERF is hardly an insult when you look at it logically. It’s just an acronym of a description. If you follow aspects of what may be considered radical feminism, that excludes trans ideology as anti feminist, then yes, you are a TERF. Hardly a slur in my opinion.

TERF is a slur because it’s an attack. It’s used to silence and frighten women. It threatens their jobs and families. It heaps a world of potential harassment upon the women who get labelled with it. It’s a slur.

TERF always makes me laugh because it doesn't even make sense as a slur. All big radical feminist thinkers include transmen in their feminism because they are biologically women. So what these people mean is our feminism includes the wrong type of trans in that it doesn't include transwomen, aka biological men. Yep. I was going to like Jo's tweet but worried that anyone that saw it, even people I know, would go after me publicly. How fucked up is that? Men still managing to silence women and speak about their rights by transitioning to a woman (some not even fully transitioning but thinking they can talk for us). Bog off. I know not all M to F are like this but it seems MANY are.

Also scared to like any of JKs tweets because of work and have these conversations with colleagues, have also wondered if my views are archaic (no - they are not). I’m so glad that the majority of people here are in agreement. Twitter is a vastly different place.

That’s a bit misleading.. Maya didn’t have her contract renewed because she refused to call people by their chosen gender. Supposedly JK has no problem with trans people, she said she would march with them. she just also believes in biological sex. Which is why I think the Maya thing upset a lot of people because deliberately misgendering people doesn’t really equate to being ok with trans people at all.


I think it was written by a different person and JK was just part of the story idea. I don’t like all the stuff she added afterwards like Dumbledore being gay. If you want a gay character, write a gay character. Don’t just add it as an afterthought later, it felt very disingenuous.

I don't know enough about the Maya issue but should a woman really lose her job for not thinking a certain way? I totally will respect anyones right to want to be referred to as she/ her of course. Doesn't live and let live work both ways? You expect people to live and let live to you so why not live and let live to them also? Not everyone will agree with your views

I would instruct my lawyers to take the sites down for breaching copyright but of course it would just be spun as “mean JK Rowling targets innocent fans” but you know what? At this point I think she should say “fuck it” and do it anyway. I would. This was actually a thing online a few years back when I was late teens/early 20s, where people would make accounts on Tumblr and other SM sites promoting eating disorders and malnourished bodies. They would post “progress” pictures of their weight loss, akin to the ones people on diets like SW and WW would do. They called it “thinspiration.”

Oh god, I remember the thinspiration trend. And calling anorexia and bulimia ‘ana’ and ‘mia’ because it sounded cute. Also remember the bisexual emo phase, and the cutting/self harm phase too. But like someone else said these were never promoted or encouraged and certainly didn’t have so-called intelligent people nodding dumbly along.

Thank you and I totally agree. My experience has only spurred me on. I am fortunate I could afford the £120 for a private smear but what of those women who can’t? If women avoid smears or cancel them when they are forced to have it done by a biological man this is going to cost lives at the sake of not hurting trans people’s feelings. It is not acceptable.

There are also many women who live in this country from other cultures who would have a major problem with this. I certainly know that some Muslim women would not want a man giving them a smear test or searching them.
