I’m amused by all the “ways to enjoy Harry Potter without financially supporting JK Rowling” stuff that seems to be going round social media atm with lists of things like only buying the books second hand, not buying official merchandise, not visiting any of the Harry Potter tourist places. I would LOVE to know how those fans who make HP their entire identity are going to reconcile that with their desire to be seen as woke and avoid giving JK their money 😂😂😂

It’s all virtue signalling anyway. They will still buy the books and the merchandise and visit the attractions. They just won’t be vocal about it on social media. Everyone knows that if you don’t post something on SM then it didn’t really happen, right??

I bet many of the people posting stuff like that are kids/teens who wouldn’t say no if their parents took them to the studios or to universal in Florida, or if someone gifted them some HP merch for Xmas would they really turn around and go “ewww this is official merch how dare you”. It’s laughable when you think about it.

The reason the TRAs are so pissed off about JKR speaking up is because she can't be cancelled.

They relish in "exposing" and doxxing women who don't agree with their extremism, writing anonymously to their employers trying to get them sacked.

I've seen many people on various platforms saying how transphobic she is. When I ask them to specify exactly what she has said that's transphobic, surprisingly I don't hear anything back.

🤷🏼‍♀️

On another note, did anyone see the anonymous message Posie Parker received from a TRA? I've placed it in a spoiler as it's very disturbing.

In my eyes the people who are calling women like me TERFs are siding with people like this:

Honestly how they think they're on the right side of history is beyond me.

I think they're showing themselves up with all this though. All those people replying to JK Rowling saying 'suck my lady fool' with pictures etc. Everyone watching that who might be unsure on this whole issue - are they going to want their little daughters sharing toilets and spaces where we undress with these people? Absolutely not.

I mean, TERF is hardly an insult when you look at it logically. It’s just an acronym of a description. If you follow aspects of what may be considered radical feminism, that excludes trans ideology as anti feminist, then yes, you are a TERF. Hardly a slur in my opinion.

I feel something like bleep is probably more offensive in the sense it’s using a tina to describe someone as abhorrent and nasty. You don’t get the same connotations with a pen.

Where’s the member who’s just called us Terfs (or the ones who think they’re being all covert by just clicking sick/angry emojis on all our posts 👀) what’s your opinion on this? You want these wankers changing next to your little girls? You think these men would be safe around women in a refuge? You want your bumps feeling.

I think you're oversimplifying this a bit. No, an acronym isn't a slur in and of itself. But as I've already mentioned, radical feminism is not by definition exclusionary of trans ideology because much of this work specifically includes transmen due to their being biologically female. It isn't accurate to characterise radical feminism as being 'anti trans' just because it does not include biological men (transwomen). It's a movement that centres women, that's to be expected. If it was anti trans, it would not include transmen. The point of it being a slur is that it's a construct to put down gender critical people and it is used as an insult. You don't need to be an expert in discourse or content analysis to look at the way the word TERF is used on social media and recognise immediately that it is a slur. If you think whether something is a slur or not depends on whether it's 'just a description' of something, why is 'bleep' offensive when it's just a descriptive word for tina? It's all about how these words are used.

If you're interested in this I would really recommend this excellent piece of research a UCL undergraduate undertook looking at the way TERF is used as a slur: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UWL5Dd5eaiHRA28qmYo_-6jmr3PKDi4qu_wPldWX9jA/edit?pli=1

It’s definitely intended as a slur by the people who throw it around on this site. And yes, agreed, we are not transphobic, that tit needs to stop.

I hope she makes them more and more furious so they show themselves up for who they really are. I hope everyone abused by tra's publicises the vile language they use. They will undo themselves with their own vileness. Most of the 20 somethings will get a grip of themselves and others of the professionally outraged will grow up or wear themselves out. Unfortunately it will be too late for the women grape by Karen White and others in womens prisons and refuges or the people who have lost their jobs and reputations and for the prepubescent children left infertile. But hey the people who caused that will have gone off to virtue signal somewhere else by then so who cares?

It is. It's very difficult when you are using social media to remember that the age limit is 13, with many younger children on there. I would not in real life try and have a reasoned debate with a 13 year old Harry Potter fan but young kids are being whipped up and in some cases abused horrendously if they say the wrong thing.

By that logic “p*ki” isn’t a slur because it’s just a shortening of “pakistani”.

TERF is a slur because it’s an attack. It’s used to silence and frighten women. It threatens their jobs and families. It heaps a world of potential harassment upon the women who get labelled with it. It’s a slur.

this is one of my favourite things about this whole issue!

No offense meant to any HP fans but I have a particular loathing for the intensity of some of the HP fandom and how they make it their entire personality. It just REALLY cracks me up to think some of them have lost half their existence (saddos) because the woman who created the whole thing has some (biologically factual and thoroughly sensible) views they don’t agree with!

I’m by no means a mad fan of it all but it does have a nice nostalgia for me as I must’ve been around 8/9 when it first took off, so we used to go and get the books at midnight etc etc. If anyone’s ruined it for me, it’s the cowardly actors and actresses publicly denouncing the hand that fed them their careers. I tried watching one of the films this week and it wasn’t the same.

On that note it has also annoyed me this week that Halle Berry has had to step down from playing a trans character when Eddie Redmayne played a trans person in The Danish Girl and nobody seemed to bat an eyelid.

Speaking on behalf of mystically-powered feline superheroes, Halle Berry should be ashamed of herself for daring to play one. I'm so offended.

Seriously, don't these idiots that are being pandered to realise what acting is.

I always find they go very quiet when you present them with evidence of how sick and twisted the trans lobby actually is.

I find it very sad that other women will happily call us TERFs for calling this extremism out. I look forward to the day these women get selected for a strip search at an airport and they're assigned a "female" agent of the trans variety.

Edit: missed a word.

I think that's what I find the saddest about this whole thing. We're no strangers to experiencing misogyny from men but when it comes to other women selling their own sex up the river for "woke points" and to appease extremists, it stings

🤬 The person who sent that tweet is sick and dangerous and should definitely receive a visit from the police immediately. It's absolutely disgusting to write that and think its acceptable because you don't agree with someone else's opinion. I can't believe the venom of that post. I'm angry and completely appalled at the same time. How frightening to have that directed at you.
I really hope that the person who did that gets some jail jail time and is made an example of.

This is why so many women are afraid to speak out now. Nobody wants to raise their head above the parapet knowing that it might be blown off.

The person who sent this message bravely used a non-fixed VoIP (like a Google Voice number) which is virtually impossible to trace.

Posie Parker is known for the 'woman: adult human female' billboards that went up in various places. Lynched for putting up a dictionary definition!

The message made my blood run cold when I read it, particularly the last paragraph. It also shows the hatred they have for females. I don't understand why they want to "become" women when they apparently hate us so much.

They hate us because they know in their heart of hearts that they will never become real women. The only way they can live with that fact is with the affirmation of basically everyone else around them that yes, they are real women, but when that inevitably doesn’t happen all the time, because biology actually matters in life, they have a full on meltdown and of course that’s a woman’s fault as well as having the audacity to be born female. Trans or not some of these individuals are severely mentally ill.
