I am fucking fuming. There's a debate on Facebook about JKR and someone said they can still enjoy Harry Potter because they can separate the art from the artist, in the same way that they still like Roman Polanski's film. How is JK defending women in any way comparable to Polanski? I am seriously fed up. Oh and of course this was from a straight man who is blissfully unaware of the nuances of this debate. I know because he told me a few weeks back he didn't really know enough about it

I'm getting really pissed off with that on Twitter too. I saw a white guy yesterday climb down publicly from slating JK, saying he hadn't read enough or her essay at all. And while I'm glad he at least has the humility to do that, I feel like we really need to normalise the idea of not just running your mouth about something you know nothing about. There is nothing wrong with saying or thinking 'actually I don't know enough about this to have an opinion yet' and just shutting the fuck up.

Just caught up, what a thread. Plenty I agree with, some I don’t, but so nice to see a discussion on the unstoppable tide of the transgender community with nuance and a lack of personal attacks, which you certainly don’t see elsewhere online.

I have a question for everyone. Do you think your opinion on MTF trans people In women’s spaces is dependent on various factors? Such as if they “pass”, if they’ve had surgery. Personally I have no real issue with a MTF trans person who has had years of treatment, surgery and life experiences who dresses well and behaves in a calm and dignified fashion, but this new generation of trans people who think they don’t have to change at all except put on ridiculously short skirts creep me out.

I know JK touched on this with her friend, but I feel like 20 years ago when trans people were a tiny percentage of the population that it was a small amount of people getting the help they needed and they were genuinely happy to be living the life that was right for them, but these days trans appears to be a badge that it’s easy to put upon yourself to look more woke or to earn some extra points in the oppression Olympics. I have a friend who is trans and has lived as a woman for over a decade, and I feel like this new generation of woke kids wanting attention in women’s spaces make the world a more dangerous place for people like her.

It’s human intelligence going barmy. We have the intelligence to create new concepts for identities and so here we are. The animal kingdom don’t do this. I mean we have people identifying as cats or forest fairies etc now it’s getting out of hand.

As a child I was obsessed with Taz the Tasmanian Devil cartoon. Mum was always always buying my Taz clothes from the boys section, but you know what, it was no gruelling task for her to do so. It’s not like the shop assistants interrogated her about her choice nor was it a problem for me when I walked into school wearing it. This overthinking and overanalysing is coming from a nation where, I dare say, life is too easy for us. There are still countries where daily survival, making ends meet is paramount - they don’t have time to poke holes in every little thing someone says or think up new identity concepts.

God yeah, when I think of all the real issues we could tackle and change to make a better world. Let women be women. Let trans have their own Bog and let's stop wasting time on the latest fashionable celeb driven nonsense.

More like trying to distance themselves from her since their fan base is largely woke millennials. They don’t want any negativity from JK’s tweets affecting their precious careers. The only sensible one was Rupert Grint, he’s kept out of everything really.

I lost faith for a while because it's so disheartening and awful. Some were on Facebook,close groups.

Linda Bellos is a bit of a legend and worth following and Google her and WPUK and look at their demands.

Someone made a good point. Twitter and such can be incredibly disheartening BUT it is the demographic of that platform and not necessarily the general feeling.

Unisex toilets are grim but ok IF it's because there are few toilets and not to appease trans and men
I was in Kings cross toilets last year and a bloke ironically working for the Harry potter shop (couldn't make it up) came out of one of the ladies cubical.

To be fair, even if any of the actors agree with JK's tweets and essay content, they may not feel they are in a position to say so. I'd suggest there's lots of people in the public eye who toe the line publicly while privately thinking the world has lost the plot.

The reason the TRAs are so pissed off about JKR speaking up is because she can't be cancelled.

They relish in "exposing" and doxxing women who don't agree with their extremism, writing anonymously to their employers trying to get them sacked.

I've seen many people on various platforms saying how transphobic she is. When I ask them to specify exactly what she has said that's transphobic, surprisingly I don't hear anything back.



On another note, did anyone see the anonymous message Posie Parker received from a TRA? I've placed it in a spoiler as it's very disturbing.

The person who sent that tweet is sick and dangerous and should definitely receive a visit from the police immediately. It's absolutely disgusting to write that and think its acceptable because you don't agree with someone else's opinion. I can't believe the venom of that post. I'm angry and completely appalled at the same time. How frightening to have that directed at you.
I really hope that the person who did that gets some jail jail time and is made an example of.

This is why so many women are afraid to speak out now. Nobody wants to raise their head above the parapet knowing that it might be blown off.
