I'm getting really pissed off with that on Twitter too. I saw a white guy yesterday climb down publicly from slating JK, saying he hadn't read enough or her essay at all. And while I'm glad he at least has the humility to do that, I feel like we really need to normalise the idea of not just running your mouth about something you know nothing about. There is nothing wrong with saying or thinking 'actually I don't know enough about this to have an opinion yet' and just shutting the duck up.I am bleeping fuming. There's a debate on Facebook about JKR and someone said they can still enjoy Harry Potter because they can separate the art from the artist, in the same way that they still like Roman Polanski's film. How is JK defending women in any way comparable to Polanski? I am seriously fed up. Oh and of course this was from a straight man who is blissfully unaware of the nuances of this debate. I know because he told me a few weeks back he didn't really know enough about it
