Regarding Alice's comments on Pam and Tommy, some thoughts. Her post had ulterior motives, as everyone talked about in their comments on here..
BUT I watched Pam and Tommy. The first episode was great because it was Seth Rogan's character's story in the beginning. I was intrigued. Then the Pam and Tommy beginning romance came on for a few episodes and it felt like a parody of them. It was shocking how Lily could really resemble Pam. I just felt like it was just an imitation of them. And at times their wild hooking up in the beginning was like a tongue-in-cheek, long-form '80s rock video, done intentionally that way. Although, they did party hard and married within four days of meeting each other. LOL And Tommy was insane back in the day.
I was getting bored and wasn't going to finish it. But the Seth Rogan character, Rand Gauthier's story (the electrician who had stolen the tape) took front stage again, this time with Nick Offerman's character being introduced at some point. I adore Nick, and he was transformed, not recognizable as his Parks and Recreation character. Seth and Nick were brilliant. I loved that angle of the story and kept it interesting. Then Pam and Tommy started becoming real people in subsequent episodes and you really felt for all that Pam was going through. Lily did a fantastic acting job as they fleshed out all of the things happening to Pam. and so many more layers to her as a human being I loved Sebastian Stan as Tommy as you begin to see more sides to Tommy also. There was real love between them. You saw his tremendous support of her career. But then you saw his massive anger. They never really showed abuse until it was alluded to towards the end and in the closing credits when updating on the lives of all concerned.
These events happened in the 1990s, but the series was filmed like '70s' films were, which was brilliant. I loved that. I also loved how music was used throughout this whole series. That was bonkers at times and inspired. It was so eclectic and fascinating. It was like another character in the movie because music was used so predominantly in scenes. A lot of '90s music is used, but a ton of music from all eras is also used: Chicago, Shirley Bassey, Iggy Pop, Nine Inch Nails, Mama Cass Elliott. I had never heard the Dusty Springfield song, What's It Gonna Be. Wow!!!! It is amazing. They even used Dolly Parton at the end. You Get What You Give by New Radicals another true highlight.
It also highlighted how Motley Crue's 80s' hair metal music was passe and shows how he was not adjusting to a different musical world and feeling passed by, which I felt was interesting in the mini series, as that's huge for so many artists when the music scene changes so radically. There's some great scenes addressing that, like when he's in a bar and Sleater-Kinney music is being played, or when their usual studio is booked to Third Eye Blind by Motley Crue's own label, relegating them to a lesser studio.
I didn't really feel it was exploitative of Pam once you watch the entire mini series. You gain so much sympathy for her as a human being and a driven person in the business but men putting her in a box, but shows her strength. And it shows how absolutely devastating the sex tape was for her as the nightmare continued on in the era of the internet and what it could do just emerging. Unchartered territory for porn and a stolen celebrity sex tape and the exploitation of their private home movie and unable to contain the events as they snowballed and the sleezy porn industry taking advantage. I felt the whole series as a whole was brilliantly scripted and shot. I didn't know Lark Bell directed a few episodes. She directed episode 4. I loved that episode. Overall, the series shows that real people were involved and the ramifications to Pam especially when that tape went more and more and more viral. Most people really felt they put it out there themselves. This quells that notion for people who didn't know the whole story and timeline. But it also is a fascinating series in the way it was written with so many characters and so many dynamics to characters. Anyone else would have had a lot to say about this series, except Alice it seems.
As usual, Alice is shallow. She posted one thing about the show: Lily James and her acting. That was solely because it fit into her agenda, as we all know. Because anybody else would have been dissecting the complete series, as there was so much to unpack.
