Could it be that she was instructed by Alice to show (fake) distress (the wording is weird) at Ioan's, and then call her, to take her home? It would explain why Alice was camera-ready. And then, when Alice told her she can't run to the rescue, Ella was surprised and trying to explain to mum that she should, because she was showing distress, as instructed.
Shit. I haven't seen the video, can anyone who has it check the tone? Lots is lost or wrongly assumed through transcriptions.
