Huw Edwards #14

I dreamt about Huw Edward’s last night. I chatted with him at a train station - he told me how the media target individuals to make their lives a misery. I wanted to tell him that sending explicit photos off himself / demanding them back and possibly money changing hands really isn’t a good idea. In the dream though, I didn’t say this - I kept quiet.

I woke up thinking that the exchange was real 😆
I can’t believe he didn’t show you his arse!

How hard it must be for Huw not to be able to report on or comment on Mark Drakeford resigning. Oof.

Whoever Huw has paid for image management are doing a stellar job. Virtually no reporting on him in the past couple of months, he hasn’t had to release any statements or make any sort of public comment. Now they are quietly reframing his public presence while he’s off sick and claiming his full pay from the BBC presumably.

When all is said and done I will pay good money for an in depth article from Andy Coulson about how he fixed this. The behind the scenes dealings that must have gone on and are still going on are next level. Total MVP 🫡

It’s all a bit disgusting IMO. I initially felt sorry for Huw. But now it feels like he’s hiding behind mental health while allowing fixers to step in and take care of the problem. Total cowardice.

In my opinion it all depends on how true all the allegations were (we’re talking The Sun here) and how much has come to light in the BBC’s own investigation. If it all turns out that Huw was treated massively unfairly and he’s losing his career and reputation over this, than I say “go right ahead and do what you have to to come out of this as best you can”. If it turns out Huw really was unethical and abused his powers etc, than I’d agree with you. But even so, there will always be a massive amount of spin from all sides. I’m fascinated by it.

This is essentially my take on it too.

I do think that if there isn’t evidence that Huw was soliciting people under 18, and they were consenting, then the Sun does have a lot to answer for. Because however morally unsavoury we personally may find it, it is really different to doing something that we as a society have deemed to be illegal.

I also don’t think he’s faking having a mental health crisis. However self inflicted people may feel this is, I can imagine it has absolutely destroyed Huw.

I also do feel that as a society we should have a wider conversation about sex work and about websites like Porn Hub and Only Fans. It’s sort of socially accepted that people are okay with people using Porn Hub, despite the fact it’s filled with videos of rape and where performers aren’t paid. In contract Only Fans, performers have control over their content and are directly paid. Yet we deem that as less appropriate? Considering it’s mainly woman, I can’t help but wonder if it isn’t saying something bigger that as a society we’re happier with women being abused on sites like Porn Hub and then we are accepting that people want to access porn and making it socially okay to be on places like Only Fans…

Anyway I’ve really digressed 😂🙈 I just find the whole thing very interesting. This episode definitely brought up a lot of questions for me.

Exactly. The Sun, seemingly intentionally and without the consent of the person concerned, made out that Huw was a nonce. That has been shown to be a lie, and I hope he sues them for libel.

Guido Fawkes stirring the pot:

The title says "MET won't say who is under investigation" but when you read the article, it actually reads as though the MET won't say if someone's (someone = Huw) under investigation.
