How much do you spend on food shopping?

I spend about £80-90 per week at Tesco and that is for two adults. It used to be less than this but I think the prices have been going up since lockdown started, which is quite exploitative considering the situation.

Two adults, one at home furloughed and the other at work taking lunch. Our food shop is about 45 euros every ten days. It used to be double that every week but since lockdown and I’m home I really make meal plans and check what we have in the freezer and cupboards and go through recipe books to make something. Buy lots of fresh fruit and veg and a 2kg bag of carrots is like a euro and with that I chop to make carrot sticks for snacks (trying to be healthy). We often do a top up at a local shop to get fresh fruit if we run out and we aren’t close to going shopping again. I try not to go and do a big shop when we have just ran out of one or two things as I’ll spend a fortune. Meal planning has honestly saved me a fortune! ps, we do live comfortably and don’t need to scrimp on bills

Pre lockdown was £70-£80 week split between Lidl and Tesco - since lockdown it's between £100 - £110 That's for 4 adults and 2 cats!
Tesco prices have definitely rocketed - they are price matching Aldi on some things but lots of the cheaper brands are not available for home delivery from my store for some reason.

£70-80 a week for two adults, two children in Asda and treats from M&S.

That's nappies, wipes etc and all snacks, meals, treats, cleaning products and even odds and bobs like moisturiser, hair dye because I don't get out anywhere else, although we probably have a takeaway a week on top, I don't count that from the same budget.

Can't wait to go back to Aldi after lockdown as I just think the quality is better for the price (than Asda anyway, M&S is the business, wish I was rich enough and could shop there for everything)

£30-£35 a week for me. Aldi shopping and live on my own. Mostly chopped fruit, veg, milk, bread and eggs.

We spend around £90-£100 a week for two adults and two three year olds. Predominantly Aldi but some Tesco

Around £150 a week, family of four. Have got far too used to buying meat each week from local farm shop, delivery from fruit and veg wholesaler, that is delivering to residential areas, and tesco top ups. But no school lunches to pay for, no work coffees and lunches so overall probably similar. I will continue to buy more locally where I can and if funds allow!

Normally I do a big shop then pop to maybe Aldi in the week for top ups, but since lockdown I just do one big shop a week. So at minute its about £70 a week depends on which supermarket I go to.
Get Rishi to pay 😊

Usually it would have been £40ish a week for 2 adults in aldi, but my boyfriend would sort out his own lunch/dinner at work so it was mainly just my stuff. Now it’s creeping up to £60/70 but we don’t go every week, sometimes it’s fortnightly with a few mini shops inbetween.

2 adults - £40ish a week pre lockdown. £60ish a week now 😑 Mainly shop at Tesco but sometimes Asda which is definitely cheaper.

Perhaps I’m the odd one out here. But I live alone, I am vegetarian and spend about £15-£20 a week! 🥳

So looking through some of the other threads I’m worried my spending isn’t normal on food shopping every week 🙈

We’re obviously spending a lot more in lockdown as we’ve gone from both having breakfast and lunch in work and eating out on weekends, to eating 3 meals a day at home. But I’m spending between £100 and £130 a week for 2 adults - usually £70ish in Aldi and £30-60 in Tesco (before lockdown it was £70/£80 a week and a LOT more on eating out). It does usually involve wine and beer, and I do cook a lot of new recipes from scratch with nice ingredients but I think that might be a lot! I’d be really interested to know how much you all spend?! Xx
We spend about the same and it’s just the two of us too!

I have shopped every week since lockdown with Ocado. 5 adults, 2 cats and 1 hamster. Most weeks it’s been over £250. I’m expecting one of their vans to be named after me at this rate. 😳 feel like I’ve paid for it. One of the weeks had a 3 at the beginning....... that was a bad week, lots a alcohol thank god they still use bags that’s all I’m saying. 😉

I definitely need to work on spending on our grocery shopping. Spent £90 at tesco one day and couldn’t even make more than three meals across the week. It was chocolate, crisps, ice cream and alcohol. Just saftness and felt shocked that i could spend so much on crap. Very conscious of food waste now because there are only two people in our house. Not even children 😂

at the beginning there were no offers whatsoever, a bit more now. Also consider all the toiletries you would have bought in boots.
It adds up. 😀

Ive only had 2 takeaways since lockdown and both were from the chip shop. :giggle:
I've only had 1, kebab 😆 But then I'd probably only have had 1 anyway before lockdown, that would more than likely have been Indian.

I live alone + probably spend about £40 a week at the moment. It's only increased slightly as I'm buying more coffee pods as opposed to buying one out a couple of times a week .

I always cook from scratch and have always had a fully stocked freezer + cupboards so have only really needed to buy fresh f&v and alcohol 🤣

Have saved loads on petrol, hairdresser, eyelashes, nails, socialising and shampoo though , used to wash my hair every day, currently only twice max now & Only because they're Zoom days with friends and family 🤦

We’ve been spending around £100-120 per week on our food shop For 2 adults. Used to be about £60 before lockdown. My OH eats a lot more than I do so I’ve noticed a big change in the quantity of things for breakfast and lunch in particular. And snacks as well. We’ve also been spending more money on things like alcohol.

Meal planning is the key.

Yeah you’re right - no take always either so £ for £ it all evens out I guess. Still feel I’ve got shares in the company though. Thankfully back down to about £160 a week now. God I miss popping to the shops for a mooch around after work 🥺
