How Much Do You Earn? #2

Currently I earn £12k a year working 2.5days a week. But it's self employed and I don't get holidays, sick pay, etc. It's in the charity sector. Soon I'll be starting a new fulltime job in the arts sector that pays £32k. Husband earns 98k working in finance. We are very fortunate. I don't know what any of my friends earn though, it's like no one really wants to talk about it!
It's funny that most people don't want to discuss salary. It's always so taboo! Maybe because it can come across as bragging?

I haven't said what I earn on here, even though it's anonymous. It doesn't feel right for me to say it. 😂

You say it’s funny people don’t want to discuss then you won’t discuss 🤣

Base salary is 26k a year working in customer services WFH. Not where I want to be in life in my late twenties but I suppose it could be worse, but I feel like I have no real qualifications or prospects atm. Considering studying to get into HR. My partner on the other hand earns 120k and he’s 30. Everything he earns we save so we live how we have always lived before he earnt the money he’s on now.
He’s hoping we can save enough so he can quit his job and start his own business in the sector he works in. I’m hoping this all works out and I can be part of this, helping him with payroll/admin side of things so we can eventually work together and have a family business 🤞🏼

I know! I think it's strange that I don't want to, because there's not really any good reason for it, other than it just makes me uncomfortable. 😂

I think it's one of those things a lot of us are raised with, so it's hard to shake.

Is it high or low is that the problem 😂

£1000 a month for 24 hours a week, it’s perfect for now as I can do both school runs every day and all school holidays off. I can’t wait to earn more when the kids are older though

£11k part time admin, 19 hours a week. Husband earns £58k so we have a combined annual wage £69k which makes me feel fortunate but by no means rich! I’d love to earn more and carve a career for myself…approaching 40 but they say it’s never too late!

£24,600. I'm a college lecturer and I qualified last year (PGCE). Once my little ones are older I intend to work my way up, there is people in my office earning £55k plus, so that's the goal eventually!

I completely agree.

I don’t work (full time student), my dad pays for my uni accommodation, bills, food etc.

There’s nothing wrong with your parents providing for you if they are happy to do so. Don’t understand the backlash at all tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️
My children didn't or don't pay anything when they were studying. The youngest is in her 2nd year and has her loans and a part time job. I send her anything if she's desperate. Once she's working full time and still living at home then she will be paying towards the bills.

I was tit on for this by my potential in-laws. Should finish uni soon, then it's back to work I go. At least I don't have to stress out over bills and stuff while in school.

Maybe its at work where they share salaries. I've got friends in HR and always saying how the blue collar workers always share what they earn on a monthly basis!.

My employer has a huge transparency clause so we all know know what everybody earns. Our team leaders spend their days in meetings and earn double what us call agent staff do. Everybody now starts on the same pay which is the same as what myself and colleagues who have been there for years earn. That's the one thing that winds me up, I'm training you and you're earning the same as me.

One of my friends cousins mum takes it to the extreme. She got her daughters bedroom electrically wired separately from the rest of the house (or something like that, can’t remember exactly what she said), and charges her daughter a separate electricity bill.

she won’t let her charge her phone in the family living room either and “use their electricity”, and makes her buy all her own food. I remember she used to charge her phone at college

I don't agree with living rent/bill free as an adult but wow that is beyond extreme!!

I'm public sector and we are the same.

Whilst it's great you don't have the issue we used to get e.g. Jan who has been there 20 years and is a useless sack of tit who does duck all earning 10k more than Martha who has been there 3 years and if you had an office full of Martha's there would be no backlog but she can never catch up to Jan's salary due to the ridiculously small increases and pay bands etc. It is ridiculous having new starters on the same salary as people who can do the job

I've spoken to HR about it and we're knackered. They've done away with probation so new staff get full sick pay etc. They don't offer performance bonuses either. They increase our annual leave by another three days once we've had five years there, and I'll now get full six months sick pay and six months half pay. We're pretty much matched to public sector when it comes to sick leave and pensions.

We don't even get that sick leave haha. After 5 years we get 5 full 5 half.

But yeh the pay thing is mad. Especially as you have people who are far better at their jobs than others and there is no reward for it
