Oh what I would give to hear her say she watched tv for an hour with her family

She goes of runs for like an hour every day; I find runs to be very meditative (probably because my headphones broke and I haven't replaced them in over a year) they're a great chance to think things over or completely clear your mind. If she wasn't trying to be #productive every waking hour of her life maybe she'd realise having 15 minutes to herself is very achievable and not something you need to track
I just think Holly really isn’t okay with being inside her own head, she even said something along those lines herself.

she’s always ‘busy’ because she doesn’t seem to have the mental capacity to actually think through and process her feelings. She blocks it all out. It’s also definitely a control thing, and like I’ve said before, just not normal. The girl needs help. If you can’t even have 15 minutes of ‘time to yourself’ a day to sit with your thoughts then something is seriously wrong.

Is Holly actually a workaholic or just doing it for attention?
Mmmmm I think she tries to maintain this ‘workaholic’ attitude because it’s basically her brand and her entire personality. Without the work aspect of her channel, there probably wouldn’t be content worth keeping up with.

Students want to watch videos of students who are currently studying. Look at ibz mo and others who graduated, they run out of regular content and then get busy living their lives, and students find new studytubers to watch. The same will eventually happen to Ruby, Eve and Jade once new students begin their channels. Holly's content has been clutching at straws this past year.

Also, studytube was massive 2 years ago.
I think people who make study content don't think about the fact that university in the UK is over incredibly quickly, so if you're not moving on to MA or PhD level, you only really have a few years of building your study channel/instagram before it's over. And then what do you do? You've been so focused on running this channel dedicated to studying and academics that you have literally developed no other skills or thought about what career path you want to take after you finish uni. I mean, I can relate- when I graduated my undergrad in 2015 I had no clue what I was doing next. It came so quickly I hadn't thought about applying for grad schemes or jobs. It was really tough, but I took some time out and did other things and figured out what was my next move. Holly has thrown herself into tutoring because it's the only skill she knows because she never took the time to develop any other skills or persona beyond "studying". I think she needs to take some time to pick up some hobbies and interests and discover who she is beyond StudyTube and this toxic productivity mindset.

I know Holly's mentioned wanting to do science communication after her masters but I can't see that going well. I've watched some Simon Clark videos; he did his undergrad at Oxford and then a PhD in atmospheric physics, he is now what I'd call a science communicator but he was putting up videos about science throughout his two degrees.

For whatever reason Holly has never put up any videos about biology on her main channel. I skimmed through a couple on the studytube project channel and lol, the only visuals she put up where ones from the whiteboard app she uses for tutoring, and she is just so unengaging as a speaker. I think she's though "I do science" + "I'm a youtuber" = "scientific communication", but she's shown no passionate crossover of these yet.

I honestly think the best thing she could do is become a registered nutritionist. After her masters this is something that she could easily move into. But first she'd have to admit that her eating habits are in no way healthy, which is unlikely to happen

Honestly Simon is a hero !
I hadn't thought of him as a studytuber because most he did such an amazing work in science communication.
His PhD journey vlogs kept me sane and gave me a new perspective during my hard times at uni

I actually think it’s possibly one of the worst things Holly could do.... at least with her current mindset.

Surely studying nutrition would mean taking courses which require you to get training outside the vegan diet (I’m presuming here idk much about it all) and I can’t see Holly being a well rounded nutritionist, purely for the fact that I can just see her preaching about veganism to anyone she comes into contact with.

I just think that in order to be well rounded in nutrition she’d need to understand that veganism isn’t ‘the only way’.... she comes across that way heavily in her videos. People don’t want someone who just preaches to them about why their life choices aren’t the ‘right ones’. She needs waaaay more maturity overall.

I have a friend who did her undergrad in nutrition and as part of her degree she had to complete various placements with different community groups including kids in schools, elderly and homeless. She loved it as it wasnt obsessive nutrition but adapting to individual needs and had sociological and psychological approaches. I feel Holly is too textbook and theory focused and in practice would be useless. I just cant imagine her at a foodbank when people only have what they are given helping someone.

Yeah I totally agree actually! I was thinking more that it would be a good job for her as she would have a good 9-5 job where she wouldn't have to think about being productive 24/7, but in an ideal world where she isn't so hyperfocused on veganism being the best thing ever

Exactly! It’s the whole human interaction and being able to work well with such a large variety of people that I can’t see Holly doing, or doing well. Tutoring behind a screen is one thing (a very 2 dimensional, rigid thing), but being able to connect with people and understand them and their needs is another.

her life so far has either been behind a screen or buried in books (plus some dance but even then, that just seemed to be there to keep her busy by uni level). Idk maybe she will rise to it but she needs some life experience first.

I wonder if she'll ever upload a "sample tutoring session" (highly doubt it)
The closest thing she’s done to that is on the studytube channel I think where she teaches some basic stuff. Idk I just really don’t see her as being enthusiastic? Like everything is done just to have something to do, not for her own enjoyment. (reading being the top example but also biology in general.... just seems like she’s grasping at loose ends 24/7)

her recent video justifies EVERYTHING about her being obsessive and ‘productive’. I mean, if your foot starts to hurt while running, you stop??? It’s like Australia all over again with the lack of common sense and knowing when to stop. It’s like she thought if she didn’t finish her run she would be a massive failure??! She needs help ASAP.

It's actually really common with people who struggle with disordered eating - exercising vigorously in spite of injury or illness. I just hope one day, she gets the help she so clearly needs.

Totally agree!

I think it’s also the fact she literally always blows it off saying ‘will I ever learn’ or ‘everyone makes mistakes’.... I don’t think she actually wants to learn from her mistakes though. She’s not ready to admit something isn’t quite right and she needs help. Nothing will change until she does!!

Holly and Ruby are both starting to show some really worrying behavior ... and yet I never seen any negative/worried comment? Are their followers really that blind or do they delete comments?

Yeah she’s deleted comments in the past or just blatantly turned off comments. The whole period thing though... she replied to a comment in a video about it saying she hasn’t addressed it for very personal reasons but might do in the future.

i reckon there’s something that just hasn’t developed because of her being just too skinny throughout the majority of her life, and then it getting worse from 16 onwards.

There's no way their followers wouldn't have noticed. But there's only so many times you can tell someone you're worried before your concerns start to fall on deaf ears. At the end of the day, they are both young women, they aren't kids anymore - you can advise and observe, but it's up to them how they behave. My concern is, do they not understand that they have young viewers? Imagine some kid thinking that's normal :(

Kinda like banging your head against a brick wall over and over! Until Holly realises for herself she needs help, nothing will change. And I worry for the younger viewers. If they think Holly’s levels of being productive are right, I dread to think the influence she’s having.

Oh my god no wonder she hurt herself. She forced herself to go for a 15 km run in 1hr 15, having such a tight schedule meant she had to run back home with her injured foot. Not only that she runs 6/7 days of the week? One rest day is not enough and she needs to see this.

One rest day probably is enough if you’ve got enough gentle runs in, but it looks like she’s pushing herself every day which is not good at all.
