They are stunting their mental development (and not just in an intellectual sense, but also in terms of creativity, curiosity and emotional awareness), removing present opportunities for self-discovery (the children haven't organically found out they have a certain interest or strength - the boys have been told it's football and the girls have been told it's dancing/acting), and removing future employment opportunities.
