What was the extremely offensive racist comment? It must have been bad for instant dismissal, but why now?

I’d like to know too. It wasn’t instant dismissal though because again, the BBC sat on it for years.

I wonder if he’ll try and sue. I’m pretty sure lawyers could make a case out of that. How can you let it go then decide several years later to get rid of that person.

He was saying yesterday that the BBC couldn't (or wouldn't) tell him when he had made the comment or where it was. Appreciate that this may or may not be true but it's all very odd and if it were so offensive then why's it all happening now rather than a the time?

It’s probably not worth his future TV career and that’s what he’ll weigh up.

I always found him repellant, both from his over-matey persona and his head and face which looked like his shoulders had been circumcised. I really resented that I couldn't watch interesting programmes because he was a presenter. Thank the Lord he's gone.

Grace Dent won’t be able to carry that show at all, she’s just bearable as a small cog sat at the table eating food she has no business critiquing,

Over the years she has somehow wormed her way around sound biting the Christmas shows that look back over the years at Music/adverts/ programmes,

And her teeth look more and more like they are being evicted from her mouth.. very hard to focus on the food or what she is saying ..

Despite the accusations Wallace and Torode made a good double act

Next pair to host this show need to have that easy banter and friendship because that’s part of the show, the contestants, the food, and the hosts friendship ..

It doesn't seem to have been revealed.
I was reading the thread about Gregggggggggg on Digital Spy last night and they concluded that the reporters don't actually know what it was. No idea if that's correct or not, obviously.

I couldn't watch Masterchef anyway because of Gregggggggggg. And that was before I knew anything at all about him. Never really liked Torode either, tbh.

THey've not sacked him though? Most stories actually said they just haven't renewed his contract

I heard that his racist comment was a derogatory term about travellers.

It could be a few things. The BBC DG said in an interview that the allegation was described as "a serious racist term which does not get to be acceptable in any way shape or form".

According to a story I saw, it happened one night between 2018/19 when they were all having drinks one night after filming. The witness said it wasn't said as a slur, but he apologised right away, and it wasn't reported about at the time, only coming out now though he is adamant he didn't say it. So, either whoever he said it to, was upset but didn't say anything at the time to stir things up and only admitted it when asked if anything had happened while John is defending himself because he genuinely can't remember or is trying to save face. That or it's someone who had it in for John, remembered and told them to get him into tit.

I'm only surprised whoever he said it to hasn't been revealed yet.

Both are being used when talking about it. BBC and others said he was sacked as well as John who tweeted saying he heard he had been, while Banijay the production company are saying his contract won't be renewed.

On the Rest is Entertainment Podcast today Richard Osman said it was the worst racial slur and Torode was told he could take a leave of absence for a year and go on a training course, which he declined.

They also hinted at more coming out this weekend.

I don't believe Torode is a BBC employee. He does work for ITV, I assume he's freelance so he can't be 'sacked' as such.

Have the BBC learnt nothing from Top Gear though. You can't just switch out an entire presenting team on these top of the tree properties, and expect things to carry on as if nothing happened. Whoever they put in instead and however much publicity effort they throw ont the bonfire, the programme will limp on for a season or two and then die.

Better to rest it for five years and then bring it back fully revamped.

(And yes I know that Masterchef was already on its second incarnation counting the Lloyd Grosman version, but so was the uber-successful version of Top Gear, that was preceeded by the Tiff Needel, Quentin Wilson and Young Clarkson version back in the day).
