Does anyone still rate the BBC these days? Just ghastly rehashed same-old same-old shows, scandals, sackings, over-hyped Strictly, vile Mrs Brown's Boys, tired soaps and little else, even at Christmas. BBC4 has some very good foreign language films but there's not much to justify the heavy licence fee.

If I had to PPV for what I watched on the BBC it would be about £40 a year. Their average viewer is in their 60s. Soon they'll change it so everyone gets charged regardless out of general taxation. If they do that then I hope they cut it right back.

Local BBC radio is good, football coverage (although that’s has plenty of controversy) is pretty good - but other than that I don’t use the BBC.

I think that is nuts - so it's ok for KW/someone to write the song, ok for KW to sing it, ok for the record company to produce it and ok for the pub to play it - but it's not ok for John Torode to sing along?

The BBC have said that it was not the Goldigger incident that Was the upheld complaint. The upheld complaint was a year before when Torode used the word to a member of the team.

It’s not nuts or ridiculous. The word was reclaimed, decades ago in fact, by certain sections of the black community, and is used as a colloquialism rather than a horrible slur. You’d have to be an absolute moron to attempt to imitate this as a white person.

And in any case, it now appears he used the word on set, directed to a member of staff. And there are also allegations of inappropriate sexual language and abusive behaviour towards a junior colleague.

Yes it is nuts and ridiculous - people can refer to each other in an informal situation however they want to - I haven't lived in a cave for the last 40yrs and I understand some black people call each other 'n*****' - but to say it is acceptable to produce a song with the word 'n*****' but it is not ok to sing along is ridiculous!!

How black do you have to be to make it ok? I have a friend who is light skinned, light brown hair and blue-green eyes - she's mixed race and lighter than me - is it ok for her to sing along? How many generations back make it ok to sing along to a song with offensive lyrics?

Racism is never ok, and to use offensive language to others is completely unacceptable - but the allegations that Torode used racist language to others on a number of occasions came after the initial 'singing along N word' allegation - which was the initial reason given for Torode being sacked or not having his contract renewed and this is what I was actually talking about.
