Anyone seen the new instagram post on tala - speaking about using a factory in Hong Kong. Then saw this on their website "bsci certified"
Also this is a comment on their insta page
"I hope you are being honest about the location of your supplierās factories. As a HongKonger Iām happy you pick a HK supplier. But to me, the factory and workers donāt look like they are in HK/from HK. I think it is totally understandable to say the supplier is based in HK but the actual factories/manufacturing line is in mainland China - it would be shady to play word games here pretending the factories are in HK if they is not. By the way, they are still going to be labeled āmade in Chinaā if your products are to be US bound, due to the controversial āNational Security Lawā...
Well I trust your socially responsible company would be sensitive enough to know that and I was just being over the top

Tala website:
Our factory groups in Portugal, Turkey and Morocco have been audited by
SEDEX which checks the whole business on four pillars: Labour, Health & Safety, Environment and Business ethics. Audits take place at least every 3 years reviewing everything from building structure, electric installation, water filtration and environmental and occupational hazards. In accordance with SEDEX, you can be sure that all of our supply chain workers are paid at least the minimum of industry-standard wage in accordance with local authorities.
We also manufacture a select number of products at our Hong Kong facility. This includes products containing bamboo, such as our 100% bamboo cutlery and Leaf face cloth, as materials are sourced locally to avoid shipping to another manufacturer and increasing carbon emissions. Our Hong Kong facility is
SGS,
CNAS,
Intertek and BSCI certified, covering everything from source materials, manufacturing quality, labour and working conditions.
Notice how they say facility not factory - so it could mean that they don't directly deal with the factory but only deal with the supplier that facilitates the chain supply.

Please Note: The BSCI program is not a program for certification - a supplier may not receive a formal certificate upon conclusion of the BSCI audit. The BSCI program is a voluntary system by which BSCI members (retailers and brands) work with their suppliers to be in compliance with the BSCI code of conduct. Those suppliers meeting the code receive preferential purchase orders. For more information, visit the
BSCI website or contact BSCI directly.
