Completely agree it's just turned into a sob story and face painting competition very few actual make up looks. The crazy looks can be fun but not when it's every challenge. Surely the majority of make up is the basics- colour matching, ensuring it photographs well, blending etc- or special effect make up for film/tv, it seems really heavy on the Instagram looks lately.

Not to mention all the wokey bs, like asking the model what pronouns they use (?!) but that's for another thread

Some of their skin looks amazing, but why don't they show how they do it? There surely must be times when one product they are EQusing either cause piling or it goes patchy on their skin. Etc.

I had my foundation done at an illamasqua counter and I looked about 500 years old when she was done. Maybe it was to do with the make up artist or my skin/skin care products I already had on.but interestingly she didn't know how to fix it.

Eurgh this program annoys the tits of me,, but I know I'll still watch next week to see a bald cap applied and someone wailing about their ND or something

I really would like to see more things like Red Carpet looks, or Old Hollywood Glamour. Choose an icon and do their makeup.
Not basically theatrical pantomime stuff.

I prefer the briefs they have like doing Strictly or Casualty. The face painting is so dull now

Anyone watching this? Second series just started. I really enjoy it but it’s so interesting to see what the professionals think is good and what isn’t. I usually disagree with their choices

I did not understand the criticism of James’s Earth look I thought it was fantastic, very creative, loads of texture. I loved it tbh

I really like Rankin as a guest judge I think he offers a much more constructive opinion than Val.

I still think Ophelia should win

Yeah I think the show could do with a revamp.
I find Val really dull and then Dom just seems to be a fusspot and petty.
Maya doesn't add anything at all - not even sure they need a presenter.

A good twist could be to ask the contestants to pick who leaves from looking at face off make up without knowing who has done what?

Anyone remember ‘Ten Years Younger’. They took someone who looked older than their years and transformed them. Sometimes they got a new set of teeth, but most of the magic was done with hair, make up and clothing. I would like to see the contestants work on someone with lines, looking tired a run down, and show me what they can do with clever make up. After all they can make very plain celebrities look fabulous. Or is that photoshop

I hate the prosthetics and ridiculous face painting. Not one of them could do an ordinary glam look (as evidenced in the Bridgerton challenge). I am also pure sick of hearing their bloody sob stories, but there was no escaping in episode one given they had to paint their face to reflect a secret about them.

They didn’t. If you look at the clip where Val critiques Jack not using the larger brush Jack is touching up the smaller make-up directly under the model’s eye... you wouldn’t use a large brush for this! Also didn’t they say twenty minutes od
You may say I’m bias of course but a LOT is in the editing. You only see what they want you to see. I sit with a running commentary

I loved how Jack was on set with their model though and the rest of the team, they seemed totally at home and relaxed. I also think they had to touch up all the models make up when they were asked back on set which would have meant understanding everyone else’s look straight away too.

I would have kept Jack over Craig too. There’s something about him I can’t quite warm too but I’m not sure why. Same with Dolly tbh.

Totally agree.I recall Jack going to a club in London ten years ago and walking in and waving/greeting some stars, inc Jonathon Ross and just being so at ease and confident. I would have gone weak at the knees They were then of course invited to the tables and sending selfie’s etc of them together.

Jack is amazingly professional and instils a confidence in everyone they work with. Obviously gutted they’ve not made the final but no less proud of them and hope this leads to good things as they want to work and not be just an ‘influencer’.

I know it's been said before but I'd love to see how they could transform ordinary looking middle aged faces using everyday makeup. I thought it spoke volumes that so many struggled to do "normal" make up for the Crown, it's like all they can do is face painting that looks great under the right lighting for Insta but look closer and most times it's actually pretty shoddily done.

And still no news on how they shot it in the middle of a pandemic.

Right person won, but it’s not a very exciting season.
They need to find the right presenter, maya & Leomie were both a bit awkward.

The presenter needs an overhaul Maura was fab on the Irish one. They also need to make it less a face painting competition and more about actual makeup. Right person won thankfully
