I’ve got a Leon cook book with a recipe of his Slovakian grandma’s in, and I feel like he may have mentioned Polish ancestry at some point. My theory has always been that he looks down on Eastern Europeans who haven’t assimilated into the British upper middle class like his parents did or he feels inadequate for not being a ‘proper English gent’ and it comes out as racism against his own ancestry, like those black republicans who hate black people. Wasn’t his article about buying the country house some ‘a psychologist would have a field day with this’ thing about him not being a ‘real Englishman’?
Yeah agree that it’s the chip on his shoulder about not being *quite* the same as the ex public schoolboys he hangs out with that feeds his ire.

Why do this after his fake 'Polish' twitter account? I think he might be craving some attention.

His sister is in trouble again on twitter.
Saying David Baddiel's black face bullying in the 90s was 'in the days before it would have been understood to be offensive'.
When challenged by a black woman about this she doubles down saying it wasn't done in a 'Bernard Manning' way.

I think Giles has been quietly and gradually cancelled and he can’t bear it. He’s been phased out without anyone even noticing he’s gone. He’s still doing his same old same old restaurant reviews, and he and Esther still do their cringey Mr and Mrs Coren podcast, but he hasn’t been on TV for about a year now.

I love Ash Sarkar. When Giles initially sent the Tweets mocking Dawn Foster’s death she hilariously and accurately called him the “third- best Coren”. #lol

Which is almost as witty as “Giles Coren is what happens when nepotism has unprotected sex with narcissism.” (Credit: someone on Twitter)

Hmmm, yes well.

I grew up in the heady days of three TV channels when the Black & White Minstrels were prime time light entertainment, & long before the 90s drew breath, it was well understood that ‘blacking‘ up was not acceptable. So Badiel, BBC & everyone else involved would have known better. Also that style of family entertainment was falling out of favour. Ironic as 40 years later, bastardised ‘talent’ shows are now prime time entertainment propelling mass social media & advertising revenue.

Take away the ‘blacking up’ & the singing/dancing routines of the B&WM, Morecombe & Wise et al seem comparatively innocent & wholesome.

GilesC is still a obnoxious loathsome git.

Like father like son then. Alan Coren never wanted to be referred to as Jewish and totally distanced himself from his Jewish roots. Giles seems to have embraced being Jewish but still looks down on other people from similar Eastern European backgrounds. Both he and his father seem/seemed desperate to be seen as old school English gentry.

Not again!! To be honest, I'd always liked Victoria and thought she was the nicer sibling (not hard when your brother is Giles Coren tho). But she has the worst habit of going out of her way to defend all kinds of racist, xenophobic behaviour, usually when it's her celeb mates under scrutiny. Afaik no one has asked her to chime in with her opinion, so she could have just ignored the whole conversation. It makes you wonder, why does she try to diminish the seriousness of these things? For context - I'm not just talking about these Tweets. This is something she's done previously. Remember when she defended someone - think it was Jimmy Carr - for making an awful joke about the Roma and the Holocaust? Her defense basically amounted to 'well I know Jimmy and he's nice so we shouldn't be too hard on him'.

P.s. Is the David Baddiel thing being brought up in relation to his TV programme, Jews Don't Count? I saw the ads and wished it was being presented by someone other than Baddiel.

Yes she was writing a review of Baddiel's Jews Don't Count documentary.
I think he is a completely hateful wanker tbh. Dreadful individual.
Victoria counting him as a friend is disappointing. She seems to forgive her friends terrible behaviour a lot.

Yeah, it really is disappointing. :( As for the documentary, it's an important subject...but couldn't they have found literally anyone other than Baddiel to present it? I don't get why he was first choice.

It’s based on a book of the same name that he wrote.

Oh no! 🙈 Giley’s done another racism in his column. Why does he have such contempt for Eastern Europeans? View attachment 1764493
I guess it’s not as bad as when he said Polish people should leave the UK in an article he wrote in 2008 though:

"My sympathy for the plight of the modern Polack is thus limited, and if England is not the land of milk and honey it appeared to them three or four years ago, then frankly, they can clear off out of it."

I'd love someone to ask whether that meant he got his cousins in to do the work, and then watch him implode...

I’ve always thought that Victoria was a supercilious twit. Tried to like her but couldn’t.

I never liked her from the moment she used that "We decided to direct a porno film for shits and giggles and get ourselves known but it was grim and awful. Not for the cast of course, but poor us." stunt and got herself a media career out of it.

I don’t know if we have any Jewish posters on this thread but, if so, perhaps you might put me straight on this. Giles says he’s Jewish but I thought you could only be Jewish if your mother was and his isn’t. I know that anybody can convert to Judaism as a religion but I thought Jewish ethnicity passed only through the female line.
