As sad as I am about this, I am a big fan of shows going out at their best rather than flogging it into mediocrity. Always leave the viewers wanting more.
I’m gutted there won’t be more 😭 but as you say it’s always better to go out on a high.
Excited to see what they do next, hopefully they keep working together, they’re such a great team!

I’m late to this show as have only started this week but I adore it and all the characters. It’s proper comforting, lovely telly. Gutted to hear it’s ending but will rewatch

Just been watching a couple of the US episodes on iPlayer ... absolutely dire! As others have said where is the subtlety? Everything in the plot is delivered like a sledgehammer! And the replacement characters are just awful! Including the two "livings"!

Anyone know how well it's gone down in the US? The Office US was similarly dire in the first season but massively improved after that.

Back to the UK series. I've always wondered, given they can't touch anything (well except for Julian's magic finger) and can walk through walls/doors. How come they don't just keep falling through the floorboards and how come they frequently sit on chairs :D. In fact in one of the Series 4 episodes I noticed Julian sit down on a sofa and his weight caused someone that was already on the sofa to sink down a touch as well ;). Plot hole 🤣🤣
This is one of those ghost things which just… is 😂 any ghost stuff you watch is the same, you’re required to suspend your disbelief

I'm not sure why it got me quite so much but the ending of that episode just had me full on sobbing. You know the sort of cry where you're completely taken by surprise and then end up with a headache? 🤣
Yup I had the golf ball in the throat 😌 They do it perfectly....every emotion. Happiness, empathy, love, sadness, laugh out loud....it is perfect, just brilliant 🥰 ❤

@OwlAtTheMoon I always think your user name is perfect for this thread....thinking Robin here 🌕 🔥 🕯⚡🌩

Great Xmas episode. I laughed at the idea of Alison and Mike eating their dinner cold in the car and the pantomime was fabulous (particularly when the Captain appeared as the fairy godmother).

Having watched some of the American series my admiration for Mike has grown (compared to his American counterpart). He's so much better at ignoring the ghosts and when he tries to interact with them getting it so wrong.

A bit of a weird episode. I think it was the correct ending but it was a bit rushed. It didn't have the impact on me I had hoped for.

Bit off topic but for anyone who might be missing the wonderful Captain and in case it was a bit off the radar at the time Ben appears in an episode of Alma's not normal, hes topless and getting a bit kinky in bed it's all in good fun of course but he plays a very dashing cad and if it helps anyone here a bit at this time of loss then thought it was worth a little derail 😉

I was reluctant to watch the final episode as I saw a lot of negative comments on social media but I liked the ending. I just wished the episode was longer as it all felt very rushed at the end.

Awwww, how lovely 💕

OK so my view might be slightly different to some here. I thought the ending was perfect. I had a baby this year and it really struck for me as showing how exhausting, overwhelming and ultimately lonely in a crowded room motherhood can be. I think that more than explains why Alison wasn't quite herself. The ghosts all giving their thoughts on how to raise, how to settle, how to wind, whatever the baby and waking her up from naps made me feel so sad and frustrated for Alison (and Mike to some extent). Didn't love the overbearing mother in law trope but you know what, that's pretty realistic too.

I missed most of the ending as I was bawling from them getting in the car to drive away. Was there some significance to the room they stayed in?
Exactly this. Most new parents just have their immediate family offering their ‘help’ (and driving them insane in the process). Mike and Alison had the overwhelm of new parenthood, an overbearing mother-in-law plus a additional troupe of involved/interfering parties to contend with.

Of course Alison wasn’t interacting with the ghosts in the same way as usual: she was preoccupied with keeping a tiny human alive and thriving. Nothing is the same after you’ve had a baby: your time and energy are directed elsewhere, and your priorities, goals and needs all become different too.
It was never going to be the same as before, just with a side-order of baby.

It’s a shame Katy Wix couldn’t stay until the end. It was only 7 more episodes and she’d have been really funny with the baby.

I completely get the logic behind the ending, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t logic myself into feeling moved by the ending. I just felt deflated. I was absolutely ready to give them my tears and heartache, but they didn’t manage to earn them.
That's how I felt - unmoved. Alison wasn't herself in this episode and Mike's mother was a dull pain the arse. It just wasn't funny or touching like previous Xmas episodes have been 😐

I thought Friday's episide (Pineapple Day) was the best yet this series. Some lovely writing and performances.
Going to really miss it when it's finished! 👻🙁
