My main bugbear with the episode was that it didn't make me laugh. The humour was lacking.
The plot (or lack of it) wouldn't have mattered if it was funny.
Yes ! this is exactly how I felt.

It's SO hard to find the funny in being a struggling, new first time mum with in law's making you feel like you're not getting it right 😥

I wouldn't of been against the final episode showing Mia around 2 years old with Alison and Mike maybe in their stride and the Ghosts being more central to the story just for that last episode (maybe a whole series 6 could of shown the realities and difficulties of new parents and old house struggles)
I think i just wanted a lot of Fanny joy on Christmas day .

This just does get better....and there's absolutely no sense, by series 4, that it's anywhere near 'run its course'. There's so much more mileage and different storylines to pursue.

I am bereft, now that Mary has been 'sucked off'. I very rarely cry and anything on TV but the ceremony at the end put a big lump in my throat.
I cried like a baby at the end of that episode. I work with people who are end of life a lot of the time and the wording and essence of it all just hit a note with me. Such a lovely episode and a great portrayal of how people manage grief in so many different ways.

I watched the first US Ghosts ep but wasn't enthralled. Should give it another go, perhaps for background tv while doing housework like you did @CoffeeMamma !

So glad we're getting a Christmas special.

I know this is a bit cheesy but I like thinking that we've got many more years of content to look forward to from this team as a collective and individually. I mean, what a legacy of television they already have with Ghosts, Yonderland, and Horrible Histories!

Love, love, love Ghosts! One of my all-time favourite dramas. This latest series has been superb - it seems to get better, if that's possible, though it was great from the start. I never saw Horrible Histories but can see it's most of the same gang, which explains why the ensemble chemistry, acting and writing talent and comic/pathos skills are so organic and well-honed. 👍 🤓

I finally watched the film Bill at the weekend, about William Shakespeare's beginnings as a playwright. You may well all have seen it but I really loved seeing all the Ghosts/Horrible Histories actors (except Lolly Adefope and the actors playing Mike and Alison) brilliantly playing several characters each. Loved it. Can't believe it's taken me this long (it's from 2015). Well worth a watch. 👌🎬:

It's rather bittersweet to see it come to an end, but I'm sure they'll do other fantastic things together. They really are a talented bunch.

Isnt it insinuated that Kitty's sister murdered her? She was awful to her in the flashbacks and wanted the inheritance to herself. She tried to poison her with the oysters.

He might have gone back to Button House after the fighting and died when he heard his friend had been killed.
I wonder if Button House was used as a hospital in wartime - lots of country houses were, so perhaps he was injured in battle and treated there but died?

I'm not a huge fan of Jay, I don't think he is as good as Mike at acting like he can't see the ghosts. I listened to the podcast on the UK show and he said that he always looks slightly up into the air when he's talking to the ghosts because he thinks they are floating 🤣 that's just a subtle little detail that's lost in the US one.

I think the US show has taken the idea and run with it as you see in later episodes, with the addition of new ghosts which makes it very different to the UK show which has stayed very much true to its roots. I like this about it and this is where I see them as two separate shows. I wish they had made all of the ghosts original and perhaps not had so many of them but I guess they wanted it to have some resemblance to the UK show.

I've only just recently discovered Ghosts. I have flown through all 4 seasons in a couple of weeks. Just coming to the end of S4 so perfect timing for S5.

Yes it was a shame she left. Apparently Katy Wix is very busy on other projects.
There's only 2 females now. I wonder if we'll ever get a new ghost. I also want to know how Kitty died as that's never been explained.
I *think* she was poisoned by her (step/half?) sister.
It’s ringing a bell but at my age that means nothing - I could have just dreamt it! 😆

I loved Thomas's Christmas gift😁
Yeah showing my age🙈🤣
And not to objectify, but Ben🥰😍
Fantastic show👏👏👏
I couldn't think who Ben was at first. I googled Ben/Ghosts and it showed the Captain. If that’s who you are referring to then I hear you. I know what you mean and I love him too. But in my opinion they are all great 🥰😍😚

It was a functional ending, if that makes sense. It just rounded off the series.

The most I have ever cried was the Christmas Special with Pat. OMG, that had me bawling.
Me too - I was an absolute wreck! Pat’s family always sets me off; the one where he sees his grandchild finishes me off every time too 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I wondered for a while if the Captain was either suicide or a "broken heart" after his friend left. Captain himself never appears to have been deployed on the battlefield which suggests he may have had a weak heart or poor health (as well as being part of a social class which made it easier to be given a training role on medical grounds).
Plus he can't have left the grounds to die in battle, otherwise he wouldn't be there now.
