I just found and binged the whole 5 series over the last few days. The only thing I want now is for Robin to take me on a champagne date on The Strand and to touch my bum.

Just been watching a couple of the US episodes on iPlayer ... absolutely dire! As others have said where is the subtlety? Everything in the plot is delivered like a sledgehammer! And the replacement characters are just awful! Including the two "livings"!

Anyone know how well it's gone down in the US? The Office US was similarly dire in the first season but massively improved after that.

Back to the UK series. I've always wondered, given they can't touch anything (well except for Julian's magic finger) and can walk through walls/doors. How come they don't just keep falling through the floorboards and how come they frequently sit on chairs :D. In fact in one of the Series 4 episodes I noticed Julian sit down on a sofa and his weight caused someone that was already on the sofa to sink down a touch as well ;). Plot hole 🤣🤣
We only found out on the Christmas special that the Ghosts still get the urge to need the toilet but their “wee” is just dust! 😆

We're watching weekly as they're broadcast, my little boy is such a fan he beams and literally jumps with joy the moment Jim appears he knows he can stay up on Friday nights till 9pm and I'm very aware that this show will probably be locked into his core childhood memories of our happy nights with this treat when he's older, No urge to binge watch if anything I'm putting off telling him that its all coming to an end 😥 Ben Willbonds dreamy Captain never fails to warm my heart, and Julian is a big fav of my OH ..... Ghosts you will be missed .

I want to find out how the captain died. All the others have been explained,
Robin = electrocuted,
the plague pit people = self explanatory,
humphrey = unfortunate beheading,
Mary = burned at the stake,
Mary's friend = choked
Kitty = poisoned / abused by her "sister"
Thomas = shot in a duel
Lady button = pushed out a window
Captain = ????
Pat = shot in the neck
Julian = heart attack doing the naughty
What happened to the captain, I need to know!!!

I'm not sure why it got me quite so much but the ending of that episode just had me full on sobbing. You know the sort of cry where you're completely taken by surprise and then end up with a headache? 🤣

Oh I'm gutted it's all over 😭

Have to say though it did need a one hour proper send off ..... It all felt a bit rushed sadly.

My biggest issue was the amount of screen time given to a random not very likeable character when we had so many of our favourites to say goodbye to (no offense to the actor playing Mike's mum of course)

The tone also felt a little off -
seeing Alison run down and drained, I would of loved to have seen her thriving on her A game, happy and confident with the Ghosts giving her laughs and challenges for old times sake , they could of thrown in at least one shock 'sucking off' because why not last ep, go wild.

The episode where Robin had a premonition of death for the ghosts would of been perfect for the end i think, the mystery, the drama, the worry then the joy and comedy of the outcome but ultimately Alison, Mike and the ghosts all happy and all still together in the end would of made our Christmas tbh.

I completely get the logic behind the ending, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t logic myself into feeling moved by the ending. I just felt deflated. I was absolutely ready to give them my tears and heartache, but they didn’t manage to earn them.

That's where I watched it.
It's also on iplayer at the moment!

I went to the FANE evening, apparently they were trying to make a musical episode work, through Kitty's eyes, but eventually abandoned it.

They were also asked if they'd thought about Mike being able to see the ghosts, and they said yes, but it removed some of their options. They also said that they liked that Mike couldn't see them, because it meant that he was taking Alison's word for it that they're there, and she can interact with them, and it says something for their relationship that he does it on trust.

I don't think there was a "right" ending really.

If they stayed, then nothing has changed in 5 series and it isn't really an ending at all.

If Mike can see ghosts it is too convenient and cliche and kinda of gets rid of half the joke.

If Alison died, leaves Mike and the baby alone.

If they left, they moved on, Alison probably can learn to ignore other ghosts now she knows what is going on and there isn't mutual attachment, but they come back and visit, but she can still see ghosts elsewhere.

There is issues with all the ending options, nothing was "right".

Andrew- do you mean Thomas?

And wasn't Robin hit by lightning while hiding from a bear? It's why he can control the electricity.

(Edit - 'beheaded man' lol, poor Humphry)

Jim Howick replying to a comment about Alison seeing Ghosts everywhere (he's right - they finally found a new house with no ghosts in the first series but wanted to go back to Button House)

Even though they were going back on what happened at the end of S5, I thought it was really well done - because everything changed once the baby arrived and they all needed to adapt

Side note: still laughing at 'good fishy milk'

I rewatched that one a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely sobbed! Pat has always been my favourite, he’s so funny and the most relatable too.
I think his story is so emotional, because all of the other ghosts would be dead by now (apart from Julian, but I can’t empathise with a Tory 😆) but Pat should still be with his family and living his best life as a granddad.
