Got to be honest I’m coming close to this point. I’m starting to find people I know repulsive with all the stuff they’re posting and I just don’t know how I can stay friends with people who think it’s fine to chuck my/women’s rights away at the demands of a small but loud minority. I’m really not one to fall out with people about politics - have friends from all over the political spectrum - but how is everyone else dealing with this?
I don’t know if this is down to luck, my family or friends, or down to the fact I don’t use any social media except to have a nose - but I’ve disagreed with friends and family on this issue, on Brexit, on how I was going to vote in the last election, on race issues and other stuff. Apart from the day of the Brexit result when one friend was angry to the point they didn’t speak to me for most of the next day but went back to normal the day after, I haven’t had any falling out or major issues. I do wonder, and still do, whether it’s down to lack of Facebook and Twitter because if I was dealing with as what you and others have described, seeing constant post after post banging on about something, “funny” memes which are actually insulting, generalisations, downright lies and self-indulgent “if you think X then please remove yourself from my life” posts, I think my friendship group and how I view my family members would be a LOT different as to what it is right now. So I don’t blame you. But outside of the online world, they’re not really conversations you constantly have unless the topic is brought up - and it also might be because people are a lot less confrontational face to face than they are online. From my own POV, I make it clear what my opinions are on things, but don’t go into depth about it sharing facts and figures to people like I would on here. If someone shoehorned politics, for example, into every conversation, my friendship with them would dissolve quickly but I don’t know anybody like that. My stepbrother has a few pro-Corbyn rants on a family group chat but they don’t last because we have other things to talk about. I can very well imagine he is a
bleeping NIGHTMARE on Facebook, but I’ve never seen it nor have any idea if he has one!
Oh fuck off bbc.
For some reason it wouldn’t let me post the video like it usually does.
I’ve only watched half of it but it seemed fairly alright to me, don’t agree with what they’re saying at all but it didn’t seem offensive
