Bloody infuriated at work today. A group of mums moaning between themselves about the Yr 4s having been introduced to terms including transgender. Not one spoke up and objected when the consultation came out! The reason? They don’t want to be seen as Bigoted Bad People (TM).

yes! fascinating, she definitely seemed she had issues based on her family. Someone posted it here (or in previous threads) about a uni lecturer in the US who made a parallel between what she did and the trans thing, very enlightening

When I was having to reconsider my previously held opinions following the Bell case, the Dolezal documentary was one of the things I watched. Some people say she's a liar, but if you watch the documentary you'll see that she's a very damaged person. I believe from the docu that she genuinely believes that she's black...or rather that she has a psychological need to believe that she's black because she associates whiteness with her abusive puritan family. What Rachel Dolezal needs is therapy because this delusion, this maladaptive coping mechanism, isn't really helping her, or her kids, in the long run.
Dolezal was actually brought up in a debate (I think in australia) where there TWAW was being discussed. One of the people advocating for the 'GC' side brought up Dolezal as an example where self-proclaimed identity was contested and not accepted by society. It was an interesting debate as those advocating for the GC side tended to stick to facts and those advocating for TWAW made much more emotional appeals to the audience. I remember one person (a transwoman) went on about how trans people had always existed and were special spirits and artists and were exalted etc. But being an artist doesn't make you special or a good person. As discussed above with the RA, our galleries are stocked full of artists who were giant mats.

Similar to Dolezal, there are several men who claim to be transwomen and another race. There was a white guy in the news for a while who professed to be a Filipina woman called "Ja Du" (not a name found anywhere in the Philippines.) Also "Daphne" Shaed, a white man who professed to be a South Asian Hindu woman and was in charge of a women's centre at a university in - iirc - Australia. There's an entire subset of fetishistic white men who believe they can become Arab Muslim women because they want to be submissive wives; some of them even believe that they'll really be able to change sex and race and give birth. The author of the infamous "transmaxxing" manifesto (an incel who advocates that men pretend to be women to improve their lives and get sex) approves of doing the same with race, and his website contains advice on stuff (supplements, etc) that he claims will make you look white if you're not - supposedly compiled by a Black man who now presents as a white woman

I would actually say that makes it sadder. It shows that some black women must have been internalizing and believing the awful message from racists that they're the same as men and less than white women.
This is infuriating. It is astounding how the transgender issue is the one thing that puts a muzzle over women. I'd be willing to bet that the same group of women would have no problem objecting to any other school policies they were unhappy with. Why are they putting the needs of their kids second?!

Depressing. Black people were not seem as human, but those who viewed them as subhuman still knew who to grape and use as wet nurses. They still knew who was male and who was female. They denied personhood, but they did not deny biological sex. To claim otherwise is a lie.

Not looking to start a row but I’m happy to see this list as a list of trans women & non binary people (who have penises which are indeed male sex organs) but keep those groups as very distinct from women.
But yeah the point very much stands that neither that tweet or any subsequent discussion we have would ever be allowed on Twitter.
There’s certainly no need to start some Frankenscience for sure. They should focus on cures for existing medical conditions.

I agree. I wholeheartedly support any campaign for transwomen, transmen and NB people to have their own separate spaces/facilities/groups etc. etc. etc. I think everyone, no matter how independent, sometimes needs a supportive space with their 'tribe' - which is why women need women-only spaces and places too.

A few weeks ago I heard Viv Groskop talking about Marge Piercy's sci fi 'Woman on the Edge of Time' on Radio 3 (15 minutes, here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0002zyk - the series was called 'Forgotten Feminist Futures' and it's all worth a listen for forgotten feminists everywhere). It was a real jolt, given that this was a book which was incredibly important for me back in the day, to be reminded that in this imagined future not only is gender fluid, so is 'race/culture' because both gendered behaviour and race are seen as socially constructed with no biological basis. The Dolezal case had highlighted this point, it was definitely terrifying that the only commentator I noticed pointing this out was the appalling Rod Liddle.
The most depressing part of that documentary for me was the group of activists saying 'yeah, but she was exploiting her white privilege by passing as black, a black person couldn't do that', which suggested abysmal levels of ignorance about quite recent history and mixed race people. That book by Nella Larson is called 'Passing', what do they think she was writing about? Or given that she's dead and didn't have a twitter account, is that all completely erased?
