Oh okay sorry I missed that! God imagine running to the papers with that non story
It said he's a singer so I think he was trying to get publicity as being down-trodden and oppressed. From the wording of the email the shop sent it sounded like he went onto social media straight away rather than clarifying with the shop who could have potentially offered him another nail technician - but sorting it out that way wouldn't get woke points.

Dunno if anyone here plays Assassins's Creed but I just started playing the recent add-on based in Ireland (it's set in Viking times). There's a female character called Azar and in her bio it says "Due to the attitudes of the male-dominated field (merchants), she adopted a masculine name and mannerisms which led to her discovery that she was gender fluid. Her close friends continued using feminine pronouns as per Azar's wish."

I just - 🤦🏻‍♀️

Also the developer Ubisoft has a disclaimer at the start of the game saying they don't discriminate based on several characteristics including GENDER IDENTITY but sweet duck all mention of sex.

Yeah, the article buried that point right at the bottom. It says they "claimed" it was due to the nail tech being Muslim. That's irresponsible reporting and no consideration for the female nail tech at all.

My facialist has a female-only policy because she only sees one client at a time (no receptionist or anyone else in the salon), it's partially a safety thing but also because she just wants it to be a space for women. She's mentioned being worried about this kind of thing happening to her

In The Last of Us Part 2, there’s a minor side character who turns out to be a trans boy. The reasoning behind it was because the cult the character came from tried to force her to marry an elder, but she obviously didn’t want this because who would, she wanted to fight with her bow and arrow. So the character shaved her head, started going by a male name and identifying as a boy so she could be a warrior. Obviously the cult wouldn’t accept this and the kid was trying to escape the cult when you find her in game.

Clearly an attempt at some sort of trans ‘inclusive’ narrative, but totally missed the mark imo. It’s like they took one of the many stories of women in history having to adopt a male persona to accomplish things due to women being restricted in ways men aren’t and tried to make it all about trans. To me it was obvious that Lily would never have identified as Lev if she wasn’t set to marry some old dude and be forced into a life of slavery. That part of the story didn’t quite have the effect on me the developers were going for I think. I had sympathy for the character, but also don’t believe that once away from the cult, Lev would have continued to Id as a boy because there would be no need anymore. Being a boy was just her attempt at being allowed to be who she was. She also has a companion in Abby, who I actually love as a character (and many people wrongly assumed to be trans before the game released) to show her that you can be a badass female who can hold her own and that she is now free from the cult to be who she really is.

The other thing is that Lev is 11 in the game if I remember correctly and the world the game takes place in is unlikely to have a stash of hormones or blockers lying around when people are barely just surviving and there are infected all over the place. Sooner or later puberty will start and there will be no way to stop it. It just feels like in the world TLOU is set in, gender identity just wouldn’t matter.

Sorry for the waffle this is something that annoys me about this game and I can’t really discuss this in many spaces because everyone else seems to love the whole Lev/Lily story arc and if you criticise it you’re transphobic.

I only started TLOU2 ages ago and keep meaning to go back to it, but this is disappointing to hear! They had an amazing game with an incredible female character who happens to be a lesbian. They couldn't just leave it at that, they had to shoehorn in some gender ideology? Yeah the way they did it sounds so offensive. Its like I'm pretty sure I've seen TRAs try to argue that Mulan was a transman. How do they not see how offensive it is to say that a woman who had to pretend to be a man for safety or because she was restricted in what she could do for being a woman, is LITERALLY a man? So bleeping backwards!

I think the man that playes Ellie in The Last of Us is great. Very convincing as a girl.

It happens constantly - Joan of Arc is another one who gets referred to often as a transman.

Not sure what you mean. Ellie is played by Ashley Johnson who is a woman.

Unless you’re talking about the big fuss about Ellie supposedly looking like Ellen/Elliot Page?

Ah transing the dead. They love to do that especially with women. They claim that George Elliott was trans and a few days ago someone tweeted that Frida Kahlo would have used they/ them pronouns. From the male side of things, I've seen them claim that Kurt Cobain was a transwoman and he died because he was depressed at not being 'out'. All because he sometimes performed in a dress.

Sorry about any spoilers I may have posted! It’s a great game overall I think, just that part missed the mark for me. They didn’t have to make Lev trans to get the point across but they shoehorned it in anyway.

No worries, you didn't say anything too spoilery at all! 😄
They've also got Pedro Pascal playing Joel in the tv series who had his brother come out as a transwoman recently and he got very aggressive in his defence of him, I'm glad he got his eyes gouged out in a certain other tv show now 😜😂

and Alan Turing and Anne Lister and Stormé DeLarverie and Florence Nightingale (that's a new one I hadn't seen before tonight) and Marsha P. Johnson (who is on film, weeks before his death, saying he's a gay man) and so on - it's exhausting.

Great article. Sums up my feelings well as a bi who feels ignored by Stonewall, and Pride which seems to be increasingly hijacked by companies for money and clout. I’m really grateful for LGB Alliance. I know it’s really hard for gay men and lesbians. Solidarity ♥

god we are regressing so much. So because Kahlo was a strong woman with a monobrow she cannot be a woman? A man wears a dress and he has to be trans. I just despair. I also just think it is disrespectful to re-write these people's lives for the aims of the trans movement

The Sims has had to promise they'll include all sorts of pronoun options because a petition was started, and they know they'll look bad if they don't. And the trailer for the new DLC pack, which allows the player to have their Sim become an interior designer and remodel other Sims' houses, there is a scene where a child's bedroom is remodelled with a giant trans flag on the wall. Urk ...
