He's been making an absolute tit of himself in the political arena for years now. I'm amazed any party would entertain him, whatever box they may think they are ticking. He was absolute cringe in Question Time as far back as 2016, can he please just duck off now?

I’d love to know the realities around the decision to not select him/to select someone else. I can’t imagine the prospect of a working actor as a candidate or MP is actually an appealing one for a local party. I can’t imagine he would have given up his career to serve a constituency, and I wonder if this had anything to do with him not getting selected?

He was just about to go off and do a play somewhere for three months - this was an ego trip, he wasn’t going to move there. He offered to get an ‘additional home’ so he could expense his London one. I think the party members saw him off.
He is nothing more than an arrogant, entitled man. As if he could ever stop pontificating about himself and his “identity” long enough to make positive change for the people in his community. He was planning to leave for work shortly anyway, it was only ever about his ego. What a fool.
Glenda Jackson was a Labour MP who gave up her illustrious acting career in order to serve as a politician. By all accounts, she worked bloody hard as a MP, and was very highly regarded across all parties. Eddie Izzard is a performative AGP, who just wants attention, he has no idea of what is important to his potential constituents, he just wants to wear girls clothes and for everyone to be party to his fetish. I don't have much time for Labour at the best of times, but they got this one right, he most definitely wasn't the right man for the job!

That’s interesting because I remember British Cycling surprisingly announced not allowing trans women to race against women - causing Emily Bridges to have a magazine tantrum - and I wondered if it was because some of the high profile women’s cyclists like 5 x Olympic champion Laura Kenny, told them they wouldn’t compete. She has just had a baby and is aiming for Paris 2024. I have no evidence of this, but I know from interviews she trains with the men to increase her speed and I just think she wouldn’t put up with this.
While I agree that it’s insanity to blame the women (but not surprising that’s the route people have taken), I do think women should refuse to compete. By competing, you’re tacitly agreeing that it’s right for men to compete in female sports. I appreciate it’s nuanced because there’s money and opportunity at stake and not everyone has Laura Kenny’s profile, but if we continue to compete it looks like we are fine with it, surely?
Refreshing hearing this discussion about Eddie Izzard. No one going along with him being “Suzy” here. I’m glad they condemned him for using female toilets and quite happily being male when it suits him to get an acting role.
I don't blame or have any ill feeling towards the women who end up competing *against* men, I have sympathy for them.
What does piss me off is women who have a man on their team, like the recent football situation, with his team mates all spouting off about how they stand with him and will fight for him, defend his rights etc. They're benefitting from him being on their team and I'm pretty sure they'd feel differently if they had to go up against him.

No, nor do I. Not in individual sports anyway. Imagine years of training and then having to withdraw from competition because some arrogant entitled man decides to compete in a women‘s event. It’s a kind of “damned if you do and dames if you don‘t” situation. However, I certainly wouldn’t want to be in a team with a man in it. That is enabling cheating and on a personal level, I’d find being in a team with an AGP creepy.
But then potentially the women will be in breach of contract with sponsors and won't get paid? Not sure how it works tbh.
