I'm a lurker on this thread, I'm so pleased to find like minded people though. Not sure whether this has been posted already, I couldn't see that it had, but this came up on my IG account today and I promptly unfollowed. I'm getting really sick of heterosexual couples being celebrated as 'gay dads' or 'les mums' when they've naturally produced children who share both their genes.
Considering how often not being able to bear children has been used as 'proof' of why a same-sex couple is unnatural, it just feels like a slap in the face.
It obviously wasn't a situation like this, but not having a "normal" family really affected my ability to form romantic relationships as an adult. I internalised the message that relationships and the stuff everyone else had weren't for me - not because anyone directly told me that, but because my family looked like nobody else's I knew and I always felt like an outsider.
I really wonder what impact this will have on these children. I've no doubt the parenting is adequate but at best they're being used as tools of self promotion for narcissists...
I don't think families have to be a traditional, nuclear family affair by any means but there are a million and one ways to duck up kids' lives, I don't know why people manufacture reasons for their children to feel like they don't fit in.
I have a number of issues with this family arrangement being flaunted and the one you've pointed out is on that list. I'm not with the father of one of my children and even though he doesn't remember a time when we were he does struggle with the shared care arrangement and being different from some of his friends, however normal we try to make it for him. I'm sorry your situation affected you in the way you've described. I think it's hard enough for children growing up, without additional difference being deliberately added to the mix.

I'm hoping to be wrong but I think we will see the situation that we saw when all the kids in The Children Of God grew up. It was horrible to hear what they had to say, to see how many committed suicide and how cut off from society they felt.
Still makes me upset when I think of it.The children of ‘seahorse dads’ will be totally and utterly confused. This is what is scary to me. Pretending that biological reality is not a thing is going to mess up a lot of young peoples minds.

Wow! That's basically a flag designed by committee.
Interestingly, Peter Tatchell was being interviewed by the BBC today as the Isle of Man announced pardons for any men for who were convicted for being gay in the past and the flag he had in shot behind him was the original rainbow flag. I did wonder if he was trying making a point

Both. Anything that men want, for any reason, especially if it silences women or fulfils their fetishes is more important than anything women may need or want.
