Lots of things here.
I understand what's being asked of the male populace in Ukraine is terrifying. It's a bit like the Helm's Deep scene in LOTR, in order to have a chance at survival people with no training, who never imagined shooting anyone, now are having to perform some form of civilian defense.
I also understand that Putin has no love of LGB people and probably the same opinion on gender non-conformity or people who transition. But this article is not about how gay men feel unsafe in the warzone due to their gayness making them a target, or what their life might be trapped in a homophobic Russian-ruled Ukraine.
My first thought when I saw this headline was the evil guy from Titanic shouting 'I have a child.' I want to be sympathetic to the plight of men in Ukraine and what they are facing, I also want to point out that many women have stayed to either help fight or to help in other ways. I just wish this person came from the standpoint of 'I'm male, I can't leave and I'm very, very scared'.
This is not as serious as the above post but I've thought this several times over the last week or so and this seems one of the only places I can share it.
When I read an article about Kanye West (who I have never been interested in before personally but am now morbidly curious about) the journalist notes "he now goes by Ye" and then refers to him as Kanye West or West throughout, it makes me laugh. Because I know if Kanye West decided to change his pronouns to anything else, I'm sure the journalists (or their editors/ copyeditors) would hop to it and oblige.

This is what gets me: libfems will say we know transwomen are oppressed because so many of them are "sex workers." We know Black and Indigenous women are oppressed because the sex industry preys on them. But then argue that the sex industry isn't inherently bad, dangerous or abusive. If it's not, why then is it a problem if marginalised people "work" in it?
It's not even about the supposed element of choice. They believe for instance that all trafficking is "migrant sex work" and those women have just chosen to go to another country to be "sex workers" (this does happen eg South Korea has very strict prostitution laws so a lot of women go to Australia or New Zealand, but they claim that's what's really happening with most reported trafficking)

If this person had more than 2 functional brain cells he would now finally realise that he is not a woman, because this is what being unable to 'identify' out of sex based oppression looks like and what women face every day globally. I was thinking as well about disabled men in that age range. One of my male friends has significant sight issues and a bad leg - would he have to stay too if he was Ukrainian even though he isn't physically able to fight? But no TW are the most oppressed always.
The women fleeing a war zone are so vulnerable, they are dependent on the good will and kindness of others yet still some men try and make it all about them, they have no shame.

I spent hours yesterday reading two huge threads on that whole mess. There was DEFINITELY some peaking going on in real time. But what an absolute shitshow. Those poor children.
