Excuse my ignorance but how does it work for using changing areas/toilets when a child is transgender? Especially as they grow older? Do they use the male/female toilets or would they use the additional needs one?
I work in a hospital and we occasionally have transgender patients and usually try to give them a single room however this is not always possible and you then have the dilemma of placing them in a four bedded room with three other people who are the same sex as them but they may be a female and the rest are men or vice versa. X

They go to the new gender changing room/toilet.

It's the Observer (Guardian's sunday paper) where there's a GC editor (Sonia Sodha). Observer has managed to publish much fairer articles, it would be good if we could see something like this in the Guardian proper too.

I'm sure when I clicked on it on my phone it was the Guardian? No matter, at least it is being reported on and hopefully reaching a different demographic.

Oh, I completely agree but trying to say any of that to a TRA is like banging your head against a brick wall and ends with being called ‘bigot’ which apparently trumps any logical argument.

I don't argue with them, I just speak facts. They aren't worth arguing because they have no actual argument!

I am increasingly of the opinion that no one is trans. It just doesn't exist. No one is born in the wrong body. How can someone feel like a different sex when they have no idea how it feels to be that sex? Instead, they are either:

A confused teenager
Gay or lesbian
on the ASD spectrum
Gender non conforming

or have nefarious reasons, such as:

AGP
Lying to get access to vulnerable women
Lying to gain access to women's sports/prisons

I amazed how quickly we have gone from seeing the idea of someone being trans as really marginal in society to it being celebrated.

You are right that a large and largely vocal percentage of the current "trans" movement falls into what you state. However there are people who fall into the transexual field and despite following numerous therapy are in the wrong body. The problem we have is that we now have something like 500k trans people in the UK according to Stonewall. So the overall message we are getting from this field is negative.

I can’t bring myself to listen to Maya Forstater being interviewed on woman’s hour. I normally like Emma Barnett but the comments on Twitter about the way she spoke to Maya are terrible. I thought Emma was no nonsense and more on the GC side (esp after her interview with Nancy Kelley, head of Stonewall). But I sounds like she’s been told to be aggressive and rude. Disappointed in her. Apparently Maya held her own though.

It's really disappointing. She's trying to catch her out and missing the point completely.

Surely you’d just say “I’m a woman.” When I had short hair I was sometimes mistaken for a bloke in the ladies loo. As soon as I opened my mouth to say I wasn’t, it was blatantly obvious from my voice and mannerisms that I was a woman. End of story. Nobody shocked or stunned. Nobody invalidated or erased. Easy.

In most cases that would sort things however the situation I mentioned earlier in India had the added issue of a language barrier and cultural differences maybe. They definitely weren’t happy I was entering a women’s only area and shouted at me until I left. I suspect it’s relatively rare though and thankfully it’s the only time I’ve had a proper issue but It was very upsetting. No idea if the original post is true, made up or exaggerated for effect to emphasis a point the author wants to make though.

Worth a watch to see how ineffective JF argued against him when he used the exact same logic as TRAs

Yes, that is the guy! Never seen that interview. Honestly thought it was all about dating so surprised to see him reaching to say about jobs etc. I admit I couldn't watch the whole thing...when the other person started talking I had to click out... I mean the Dutch guy really is using the same logic and the fact they can't see it.

I'm not a mean person but when caught by surprise I give my thoughts away on my face.

I guess it happens to them all the time and I get it must be hard for them. But you know what's harder? Women's spaces/language/safety/freedom of expression/opportunities being taken away.

It appears as though some politicians have removed the pronouns as they are soon to have elections etc.
