I think you're looking at it the wrong way round. Over the last decade, think how much has changed in terms of awareness and knowledge of gender identity, LGBTQIA+ etc issues which ten years ago, kids would have had no idea about. They would have gone on to become very unhappy adults who would / may look to transition later in life, some of which may go on to suicide. Now however, there's a lot more awareness and understanding amongst the general public, so young people are presenting much earlier in life. Secondly, health professionals have more awareness. A decade ago, a GP's response would be quite different. The fact that referrals have increased can only be a good thing. But are they receiving the help they need? The Tavistock has had some pretty damning whistleblower stories. I'm not sure they are in their current form helping any child.

The crisis at the Tavistock's child gender clinic
A number of reports have raised concerns about the country's only NHS gender clinic for young people.www.bbc.com
Those numbers to me reflect the poor provision for child and adolescent mental health care across the UK.
Not to mention that there has been such a jump in cases in a decade just makes me think that research into Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria among children, especially girls, is urgently necessary.
the help that a good % of that 5500 need is a unbiased mental health professional talking to them to see what issues they have. What they don’t need is referred to a long waiting list to a service which has been shown simply reinforces the child’s view rather than questioning it. If we had an underweight teenage girl who said she was too large we would not validate that view? Why then do we validate every teenage girl who says they are a boy especially if a large % are also autistic. That’s the current problem with Tavistock…..don’t take my word it’s in reports and in testimony from doctors that have resigned. Why is it sad? It's a great thing. It shows that kids are finally being referred for the help that they need?!
I mean this is concerning that you would not take a child's view point into consideration. Gender and identity and weight are two different things entirely. Children that are not taken seriously go on to be deeply unhappy, some go on to suicide as have been many reports. Just because someone has a referral to Tavistock does not mean that they get referred and automatically supported to transition or 'validated'. It is a long process of assessment.the help that a good % of that 5500 need is a unbiased mental health professional talking to them to see what issues they have. The long process of assessment is 2 sessions in which the child's assertions are unquestionably affirmed.I mean this is concerning that you would not take a child's view point into consideration. Some young people within the waiting time frame, may actually change their mind and no longer need the referral. But young people need to be taken seriously - the risk is too great if they are not listened to.
Also, autism does not mean a young person cannot be gender questioning.
I assume the suicide statistics you refer to is the ones pushed by mermaids/stonewall which where debunked as they where based upon the testimony of 7 trans people. Sadly there are some children that commit suicide whoever it is never for gender reasons. The CASS report along with testimony from doctors that have left as well as de transitions show that the only thing Tavistock do is validation. What our politicians should be doing is holding an inquiry/commission into why referrals have went from 50 per year to over 5000. Instead they struggle to say what a woman is when asked.I mean this is concerning that you would not take a child's view point into consideration. It's sad because 2010 wasn't the dark ages. There hasn't been some great awakening. Instead kids are told to "be kind" aka shut up and everyone wants to be different or have a label. Because being white, straight and no neurodivergence is not cool. Why is it sad? It's a great thing. It shows that kids are finally being referred for the help that they need?!
I don't think I am. Most frightening for me is the huge increase in young girls being referred.I think you're looking at it the wrong way round. Over the last decade, think how much has changed in terms of awareness and knowledge of gender identity, LGBTQIA+ etc issues which ten years ago, kids would have had no idea about. Finally, a referral to Tavistock does not automatically negate a referral to CAMHS. The waiting list for Tavistock is huge, and therefore young people may be simultaneously referred to CAMHS and Tavistock; CAMHS to provide support in the interim. The figures quoted do not assume that CAMHS is out of the picture.
Yes- agreed. If grown adults want to transition, the provision is there for them. There is no need to want to fast track a child to make such serious decisions and as adults we should be protecting them, not immediately affirming and changing names and pronouns and getting them referred. There is a reason children are not allowed to get married, drink alcohol, get tattoos, make financial decisions. If drinking alcohol is not safe or healthy for a child under 18, why is giving them puberty blockers ok? If we don’t trust kids with deciding to get a tattoo, why would we think a 16 year old should be able to make the decision to get their breasts or pen removed? The human brain doesn’t fully develop until we are 25. There are lots of mistakes I’m sure we all made as kids, but as adults I’m sure we all still have our body parts intact??
Exactly. It’s so frustrating that so few people want to accept this, because it’s so OBVIOUS. Declassifying gender dysphoria as a mental illness was a scandalous thing to do. Of course it’s a mental illness.I am increasingly of the opinion that no one is trans. It just doesn't exist. No one is born in the wrong body. How can someone feel like a different sex when they have no idea how it feels to be that sex?
You are right that a large and largely vocal percentage of the current "trans" movement falls into what you state. However there are people who fall into the transexual field and despite following numerous therapy are in the wrong body. The problem we have is that we now have something like 500k trans people in the UK according to Stonewall. So the overall message we are getting from this field is negative.I am increasingly of the opinion that no one is trans. It just doesn't exist. No one is born in the wrong body. How can someone feel like a different sex when they have no idea how it feels to be that sex? Instead, they are either:
A confused teenager
Gay or les
on the ASD spectrum
Gender non conforming
or have nefarious reasons, such as:
AGP
Lying to get access to vulnerable women
Lying to gain access to women's sports/prisons
I amazed how quickly we have gone from seeing the idea of someone being trans as really marginal in society to it being celebrated.
The current trans movement is a bit like BIID in that some members believe it will be better after, some see it as a sexual fetish and some are willing to go to extremes to make it happen. How can it NOT be a mental illness? Believing yourself to be something you’re not is clearly a deep psychological issue.
Edit: or a fetish.
The left/liberals are just as bad. In Sweden trans were forcibly sterilised until 2013.Who’s interests would it be in to permanently sterilise a cohort of autistic teenagers who most probably would grow up to be gay?
(Spoiler alert: Right-wing eugenicists, that’s who.)
This is not a civil rights movement. For one thing, at no point in history have the police and establishment been on the side of any left-wing grassroots protest movement. That’s how I know the trans rights lobby is a right-wing shill. It amazes me that more people don’t see this, especially the Left.
