to quote what i just saw on twitter - we are witnessing the sebastian vettelification of charles leclerc at ferrari.

was it his mistake today? yes, but it’s not his fault that he is now so behind in the wdc and hearing him take the whole blame for that in his interview was sad, even though i am very biased.

and telling carlos to pit mid overtake?! do they not even check cameras when speaking to drivers?!

never has a team squandered so much recent talent. alonso should have won another wdc there, seb should have won at least two but was having to strategise his race from inside the car, charles is still young and so i hope he rides this out mentally because he definitely has the makings of a future world champion but urgh.

red bull must be loving this though i thought max seemed disappointed that he didn’t get to battle charles for the whole race. i quite like their dynamic 🤣

I was, wanted a mega fight! Boring to see runaway wins

Poor Lewis with no water, like Checo in Texas 🥵

i hate runaway wins too (unless it’s a driver i like 😉) - i always think it must be hard to keep your focus when you’re out there with no other cars around you.

i know! don’t blame him for having a little lie down 🥵 i was so surprised on the commentary when they said some drivers choose not to have water.

I don’t think Lewis usually chooses not to have water! It sounded like it was a one off!

oh yes! i didn’t word that right - lewis’ was broken but paul di resta mentioned that some go without it optionally which sounds wild to me 🤣 i’d love to know who does!

I agree Charles taking the full blame was very sad. Ferrari ruined Carlos' race too even the commentators could see how weird the strategy was.

I think Max does want the fight with Charles but another DNF is costly

it made me incredibly sad that he said something like “if we lose the championship by 38 points i will know it was because of this” - like no it was his error today but the rest (monaco in particular) haven’t been.

i couldn’t believe that they chose that moment to tell him to pit, or even why they pitted at all. it was an insane decision and lost a podium for him.

the ferrari instagram keeps posting sad charles and i can’t bear it. on my way to france right now to give him a hug.

I don't know what to say 🥴

i literally turned the race off for ten minutes to mentally recover 😭😭😭

Have to say when I heard Charles' interview, "my mistake" just thought, nah bull another Team duck up. But he looked so devastated too much pressure on him, but maybe its from himself.
But then how much pressure are Ferrari putting on themselves? Red Bull will be laughing and flying without wings! 🤣

he’s always taken a lot of the blame onto himself, which is admirable but can’t help his mentality really. like you say, if you’re putting that level of pressure on yourself then you’re going to make mistakes eventually. he seems such a sensitive sort so i hope he has some kind of sports therapist alongside the performance stuff.

i feel like ferrari must wing it each weekend and hope for the best 🤦🏼‍♀️ red bull will absolutely be laughing, it’s being handed to them on a plate (no disrespect to max of course)

I know it's always like this but I hate that the cameras/media are right up in his face within minutes, asking what happened and how he can turn it around. Being asked by Sky Sports if it was a "lapse of concentration" is just frustrating tbh. I don't think Binotto really shoulders much of that responsibility either, there have been plenty of Ferrari screw ups this year and it always feels to me that the drivers are the ones who take the blame first and foremost.

True that about Binotto. At least Toto says "we know the car is not good" but are trying everything.
Ferrari ate a big named brand cannot seem to be making too many mistakes, but also need to encourage their drivers yeah it might have Charles error today, still not sure tbh, but what happened to Carlos was daft. It's a team sport be together.

yep :( binotto seems very comfortable with leaving both him and carlos out there to take the flack - i’m no fan of christian horner but he rarely does that. the other teams seem to have a level of protection over their drivers (well maybe not danny ricc at maclaren right now) which ferrari just doesn’t do. that’s a bad combination with a driver who is sometimes too eager to say “yes it was my fault”.

as a team, they’re shocking, and as a seb fan, i have never forgotten that 😭

The Ferrari team are a car crash (pardon the pun!)... Really felt for Sainz today & he must feel they try to sabotage him. Equally though if they left him out & he dropped places due to tyre deg or he ended up off track due to grip, they'd regret not pitting.

I reckon Binotto might get the auld heave-ho if they don't win constructor's this year when they clearly have the pace & potential 🤔

Merc are hella reliable this year, I can see Ferrari not even holding onto 2nd unless something changes.

makes me wonder whether some of the young drivers who have signed long contracts (Norris, LeClerc etc) regret it at all.

Especially with a seat at Mercedes likely opening up in a year or two with no clear front runner. Ocon? Time will tell.

i wonder this too, especially in lando’s case 🤔

if my memory is right, leclerc’s contract is up in 2025 - at which point he is still only 27/28. that’ll be an interesting decision! (meet me back here in 2025 to talk about it 🤣😉)

it’ll be super interesting if lewis goes until he’s 40 and so then retires in the same year that charles’ ferrari contract is up. pure speculation from me but hmmm 🤔

He seems much happier atm, I loved how Toto came on the calm George
