My boyfriend is fiiiiiiiiinally moving in with my next week (HUZZAH) so we're at his and I'm trying to use up all the chicken stock leftover from roast dinners in his freezer, so I'm making this delight tonight: https://smittenkitchen.com/2006/09/silky-cauliflower-soup/

I'm so excited that you're finally in Paris @crystaleyesd - would recommend Babka Zana in the 9th for the most insane pistachio babka you've ever laid lips around. Please give us all the filthy goss re: your liaison as soon as poss (with human, not bread, although give us the deets on all your gastronomic experiences too).

I don't want to witch about the mother thread, and I'm obviously still on there, but it's a lot of the same questions now (despite the amazing recaps). And just stupid speculation (who cares about her siblings or what her dad might have said in a newsletter?).

I want to laugh at Celery. Edinburgh.

She gives us enough without going into her family, partner and son. (apart from right now. Quite relieved she's taking a break).
Thissssssss. I wish more people would take this rare time in which she's quiet and not doing a chaos to actually go back and read the old threads, stop repeating everything ad nauseum and asking questions which have been addressed on multiple occasions. Also, outside of people who have been discussed already, I'm sensing quite a few posters whose dislike of Jack stems from right wing sensibilities rather than the general leftie discomfort and foodie outrage which seemed to be the majority view on the early threads. Shame. As my fella said the other night with a knowing look on his face after we'd guzzled two bottles of wine: "with proliferation comes mediocrity".

Thanks for sharing the link for the personality test, I have finally done mine and it came out as ISTJ. Reading the summary I agree with the first half but not so much the second. Skimming the other Introvert ones though it is the closest to me. Interesting!
This sounds DELICIOUS

Lol sorry I meant to quote @Miss Anne Thrope here about her fish, but your personality also sounds delicious @Toffee finger

I added rice to my lentil and spinach soup and made a kind of pilaff, grated cheese on top and served on a bed of kimchi. It was very tasty.

@HarderFaster I’ve had some delicious meals from Smitten Kitchen recipes. The recipe on there for double chocolate banana bread is really good (we made it pre lockdown banana bread obsession!)

Tonight I are be cooking seabass with a lemon and caper sauce plus finely mashed potatoes. (Although I'm now worried about the JM-like lack of texture of the mashed spuds! Have I been influenced by her?!)
Seabass with a lemon sauce is one of my favourite fish dishes ☺ I usually do it with some sauté potatoes or some pesto spaghetti on the side.

@Harrybosch I’m with you there, lieben.

What’s everyone having for dinner? We’re having veggie lasagne and I did a maverick and made my own garlic bread. When I say ‘made’, I may be taking liberties as I just used a pack of those part baked baguettes, sliced them nearly all the way through, then drizzled a mix of melted butter / crushed garlic / parsley and chives / salt and pepper over in and between the cut slices.

Garlic burnt a little as you can see, but what me worry?

this has me drooooling!

I bunged some stuff in a curry for dinner (jokes, I carefully added fresh ingredients that would taste good) and tried the absorption method thing for cooking rice so thank you to the fraus who gave me pointers on that last week 😊

Hurrah for you and your boyfriend. How lovely!

As for your second paragraph. Babe, same. Besides, the old threads are definitely worth a read.

Your talk of rice cooking has reminded me that I meant to share this video with the group.

@Pocahontas Mate I am so so jealous of your bird window and carpet free stairs. My feet refuse to maintain purchase on carpeted stairs and I fall down them all the time. I also dislike carpets in general sense cos I hate hoovering but LOVE sweeping.

Used to live in a similar house too! It was Georgian so very old, the wind streamed up like air con which would have been great had it ever been hot enough to be necessary
[/QUOTE]
........A draughty pile of Georgian bricks?

I went into town for a hospital appointment last Thursday, North London hospital letting in no one without an appointment & security on the doors requiring proof. Northern line quite mask compliant aside from one or two people on the way back. Tubes and central station I come into quite quiet but I came midday ish and left around 7pm. Was overall better than expected.

I broke my coccyx falling down my carpeted stairs. That was, as some people might say, ouchy.

Veggie/not veggie? Any particular type of food you prefer? Sorry, I know that's a tricky question when you've just said you don't see food as appealing at the moment.

Morning everyone. I have mackerel on toast as it is my ‘Sunday’. Is it a breakfast food? It is now.

I’m trying to completely cut down on fizzy drinks, I feel I am/was heavily addicted. I’m on day 3? I’ve only had one glass a day as I already suffer migraines and google told me that going cold turkey would give more. I thought I’d try the cold infusions tea bag things, they are ok. Has anyone else done this?
Ive cut down. I was drinking at least 2 cans a day. I stopped cold turkey but that was because coronavirus triggered my ocd and I wouldn't go into shops to buy them. I had headaches for a week. I just drank lots of squash and water, and tea if my head was particularly bad. But they did subside eventually. I do drink the occasional can now but I don't enjoy them as much now. I think it's just time and breaking that addiction.

I’m not veggie but not really a huge meat eater either, I need to eat more veg really but because I don’t cook I buy basic salad then watch it go off.

Like mention of veggie lasagne did just set my appetite off that sounds awesome but I make all these excuses not to cook like I live alone (part time kid here who eats her own favourites so don’t have to consider her).

I think working from home means I could potentially try a bit more cookery, but I’ve stuck to grabbing a bacon butty. I finally feel I might have a bit of a grip on the binge eating I was doing but I’m a bit ‘scared’ of enjoying food now I think? I’ve eaten freezer gravel today and feel crappy for it. left to my own devices I just eat toast and various other easy to grab beige carbs

Ah... well that all sounds familiar. I do love to cook, but I've had/have issues with food and I always worry I am going to get into those binge eating/massive meal habits again. Also ditto with the toast. Though it's a place to start too.

I've banged on about this before, but marinading good cherry tomatoes in salt, good olive oil, pepper and a tiny bit of sugar (and if you want sharpness a bit of sherry vinegar) elevates them to something else entirely. I also like this, because it means I can prep something really simple early on in the day and have little to do to turn it into a meal later. So, do that, then when you're hungry, you can..

Toast a couple of slices of bread, rub with cut end of a garlic clove, top with tomatoes (and basil if you feel fancy) and eat.
Add mozzarella and basil for traditional caprese salad, or avocado for something bit more substantial.
Cook some pasta, toss the tomatoes through it let it warm a bit in the saucepan and shave in some parmesan.
Make an omelette, either plain, with a few herbs (parsley and chives say, stirred into the egg) and serve tomato salad alongside.

More things to go on toast - mushrooms, cooked in butter and a little oil to stop the butter burning, at a highish heat so the juice evaporates and they are a bit toasty. Bit of thyme through them, and/or a little garlic (chuck that in near the end so it doesn't burn). Smashed avocado (know it's now basic witch territory, but there's a reason, it's good, smash it up with lemon, salt and pepper, with a drizzle of chilli oil on it, if you like heat.

My daughter's favourite wrap - cooked salmon, spinach leaves, yoghurt chive mayo (half and half yoghurt and mayo mixed, with some scissored chives in there) and avocado (leave out the avocado and add more salad if you prefer.

More cooking. Chicken thighs are your friends. Individual portions and you can reheat ok, or use leftovers in sandwiches.

Marinade in olive oil, thyme, 2 red onions sliced into 8ths (half, then quarter the halves), juice of two lemons, then cut the lemon halves into quarters and chuck them in the marinade too, salt and pepper. Do this in the morning or the night before, then whack into oven for about an hour on 180-200. Turn after 30 mins, check after 45, let them go as caramelized as you like. Nice with microwaved rice, or mash. (Can add sausages to this traybake)

Leftovers nice in sandwiches, or tossed through pasta for another dinner.

Or marinade in za'tar and olive oil, does all the work for you, then just bake for 45 mins for middle-eastern flavour. In a wrap with salad and hummus and chilli sauce. Or with rice and yoghurt and salad.

Bake salmon fillets. Sheet of baking paper (or foil). Add salmon, mix thinly sliced spring onion, sesame oil, soy sauce, little bits of sliced ginger, sliced garlic, rice vinegar and honey and pour over. Make a parcel and bake for 20 mins for one supermarket slice of salmon or 30 or so for two. Sort of asian flavours. Again with rice, or noodles tossed with sesame seeds, sesame oil, soy and more spring onions.

Or med version: same parcel principle, but salmon, thinly sliced courgettes, thinly sliced red pepper, or any veg you fancy, it will all steam. Green beans are nice. Add a little butter, thyme, lemon and salt and pepper and some garlic (if you like). Bake until the salmon is flakey and veg are tender. This is very forgiving in terms of cooking time, as it steams in the paper. Not much clearing up either.

I'll have a think about more if they are on the right lines.

I made a Veg chilli this morning, slow cooked for a few hours, and left it to intensify for dinner. I went a bit wild on the tins of pulses, but the texture and taste was amazing. I used x3 peppers, x4 onions and a whole bulb of garlic, x3 tins of tomatoes and then a tin each of kidney beans, black beans, sweet corn, and haricot beans. Loads of cumin, paprika, tomato purée and obvs salt and pepper. Cooked for hours. with rice and grated mature cheddar, plus a squeeze of lime, big sprinkle of coriander, and chunks of avocado, and sour cream. It’s always a winner in this house, and there’s lots of us, so despite the little expensive extras like avocado/lime/coriander, it’s v easy on the budget and leaves everyone stuffed.

@peperomia I’m totally the opposite - I hate sweeping and love hoovering! Especially with my Vlad-financed Shark 😂 It works a dream on hard floors as well!

If you ever find yourself in the West Country, let me know and I’ll take you to the woods with the friendly robins 😂 genuinely mean that to all the fraus ❤ Maybe that makes me sound like a weirdo, but we’ve been chatting for several months now, internet dating has a quicker meet rate 😂

@Flumps - broken coccyx OUCH. Solidarity on the back pain. Does it still twinge?
Oh duck this would be magic, I would love that! You really are a Disney Princess! #triangulationcomplete

Nah not a weirdo. Babe, same!<3

Thankfully not any more, but it dragged on for ages and was very annoying. I whinged a lot and made weird noises when I got up and sat down.

thats amazing Thank you! Have screen shot it all and will take along to my next shop. I get baffled and don’t know what to buy cos Idont want to waste money on food I won’t eat but then don’t know what to eat it’s been a vicious cycle for years. I appreciate this so much I feel a little tearful xx

That sounds delicious. I’d love to eat something and feel I enjoyed it, it feels a while since I have but I could make that I reckon
