Just posting to say my cat looks really good in a sombrero. Ole!

edit: couldn’t figure out how to get the thing over the e
Your ginger boy- so gorgeous! I've always wanted a ginger cat, right now I have a brown tabby, a dark grey smoke( white underneath fur) and my lovely tuxedo girl. Gingers are just so sweet, maybe in a year or two I'll get one.

Thank you, I have to agree. He is gorgeous in looks and personality. I have a black cat too who is a lovely, dopey sluggy idiot.
You can never have too many cats. I would absolutely love a Maine coon

@veryfondoftea MCs are beautiful cats, they sometimes come up in shelters because they require a lot of interaction and some people don't like their chatter. I'm all for it, way more interesting than my husband most days.

I did a chaos and think that this is now an ex-knife....

Black plastic handle melted into the oven lining sheet at the bottom of the oven. It must have fallen off the worktop when I had the oven door open to peek; the conventional oven is hinged at the bottom so it would have just slid into the bottom of the oven.

I did wonder why there was so much smoke and that surely nothing I cooked that had dropped on to the oven bottom would have such a weird smell - unless I was following a Jack recipe of course.

To be fair, this looks tastier than some of Jacks offerings.

I could handle the chattering I reckon, one of my cattos is a chattering catto anyway. It’s the indoor/outdoor thing I’d struggle with I think. Our cats are very much outdoors cats and I don’t think that’s good for Maine coons is it? As in risk of theft?

Lucky you had the oven liner there. I wouldn’t know how you’d even begin getting melted plastic off the oven apart from buying a new one!

Food chat. I cooked a side of salmon last night, en papillote, with ginger, garlic, oyster sauce & soy sauce, and some pak choi in there too. It was so simple and tasty, especially after too many takeaways lately. I never thought there’d be a limit to how many chips I could eat.

Morning fraus! I wondered if anyone would be able to help me with a recommendation? It was my birthday on Friday and my lovely parents have offered as their present to me to buy me a mixer as I've been baking a lot lately, and using a hand blender which although does the job, isn't great and is on it's way out (I got it when I was at uni over a decade ago). I don't have space for a stand up one so am thinking of a hand mixer - I mostly make simple stuff like brownies but got Nadiya Bakes from a friend (what a delightful book, her love of food just shines through!) And there are some bread based recipes I'd like to try. I have looked on amazon and there are some hand mixers which look ok but I trust the cabal more on this kind of thing! Looking at anything under the £100 mark really. Any advice would be most appreciated!
I don’t have a recommendation. But we are birthday day twins!!!!!!!!! I am 1969 vintage . Wishing you a lovely birthday on Friday x

We got ours from a farm for £40 each as kittens. They are absolute beasts and love hunting. Bells on their collars has stopped the bird massacre but we still get various rodents daily.
I looked at adoption for our next cat but our local RSPCA seems a bit mental to be - on practically every available pet it had these ridiculous criteria like must only have children aged between 12 and 12.5, must have detached house with garden on 3 sides. Can only be allowed outside between 6pm and 6.02pm from April to September. Can’t have any other pets. May get on with friendly yet standoffish other pets only. I’m exaggerating obvs but I’m amazed they ever manage to rehome any of their animals.

Breed societies have rehoming schemes, which is where I got my Somali

yeah I found that with the RSPCA too, I was basically not allowed any of the cats as they had to have access to a catflap and I had to be in for the majority of the day, so basically only people that don't work outside home at all

I've always had rescues, then 8 years ago my husband decided I needed a Maine Coon. He researched breeders and took me for a 'surprise' drive to get our first, the lovely Pooh-Bear. We had to sign forms agreeing that if we couldn't care for him he must go back to the breeder.

I feel the RSPCA are making it too difficult to get a pet from them now, it's a shame because lots of people have so much love to give an animal. Of course dogs need space and exercise, my three cats are fine living inside. They have an outside enclosure they can hang out in but honestly, they prefer a nice window with a comfy soft basket.

Some breeders retire their Kings and Queens so that might be something to look into? At least you know you'll get a well socialised house trained healthy cat.

That sounds like a great breeder. Are you in the UK? A retired breeding cat sounds like a great idea. Burmese are very dog like. In the past I’ve had two half Burmese cats. They both had very big personalities.

I’m currently without a cat and would like another.

We always had burmese growing up, lovely but quite neurotic, one had a habit of eating clothes, literally swallowing material, the amount of clothes I found with massive wholes in and had to throw away

@Mustard no, I'm in Australia. Agreed, Burmese are hilarious little energy balls!

My husband said he found the breeder by searching the registered breeders association and going from there. We had to travel for two hours to get our little Pooh, well worth it though!

We got our cat from a friend’s sister whose cat had a litter. Agree that adopting can be really difficult with all the criteria and restrictions. I would absolutely love a Sphynx. They’re my dream cat.

Ooh yes, I like Sphynxs as well. Think my house would be too cold for one though. I’m also interested in the Devon Rex breed but don’t know much about them.

My friend has a Devon Rex, the only animal I've ever disliked in my life. Horrible, bitey, spiteful thing. Her SIL has two and they are very sweet and normal. I think my mate just got unlucky, although I must say the cat has never bitten her 4 kids. Just the adults.

I’m just looking on various adoption websites and someone has actually specified for a cat that doesn’t like children - “must have a home that children NEVER visit” lol that’s incredibly strict. Been on about 10 websites so far and haven’t found a single cat where the cat could move into my house with my two cats and daughter under 10. Totally nuts.
