I think Louise also posted something like “good luck today” to Fleur on Twitter the day she went into hospital to have River, even though Fleur hadn’t publicised the date. Everyone knew she was in hospital then.
Wow I'd totally forgotten about that! Yes, she did do that.

At the end of the latest Vlog you can really tell she's having a tit time - without begging for sympathy - which genuinely made me feel for her and I usually don't for these influencer types.

I still love her interactions with Mike and River but at the same time it looked like they had packed for two weeks for that long weekend in a cabin! Ultimately how much stuff can you use in three days, even with a toddler?

Yeah she’s definitely struggling with something, You can see it on her face.
I do enjoy her vlogs thou, I think it’s because she is not constantly pretending to live a life she doesn’t belong to. 🧐

She mentioned in one of her vlogs she had this big rash and later said it's psoriasis I think. Did she not also mention her Grandma had Covid when she talked about her miscarriage? But I have feeling something else happend. Her face looks puffy like she's been crying and the way she apologised for not vlogging seemed unlike her. Her voice went so soft like shes genuinely so sorry for not vlogging. I enjoy her vlogs and always liked her so hope she's okay.

This might be a controversial opinion but I'm not very surprised that Fleur's sort of fallen out with a lot of her fellow youtubers (Louise, Ingrid, Tanya, etc.) over the years and I don't think it's because she's a bad person.

Fleur's way more privileged than most of these gurus, who rely entirely on their channels to support their current lifestyles, which is vastly different than the ones they had pre-youtube. Other than some free stuff and invitations to certain events, Fleur's standard of living hasn't changed all that much with youtube. While Fleur is spoiled and sometimes a bit out of touch with your average person, I do think she's the type to want to cultivate genuine relationships (a lot of her offline friendships seem to have remained over the years and she's very generous to her family and friends). I feel like most of these youtubers just build youtube friendships to get more sponsorships, views, & subscribers. Nothing wrong with that from a business perspective but I don't really think that's Fleur's crowd. Different values and circumstances and no one's in the wrong imho.

Yeah she looked like she was about to cry at the end and looked quite sad throughout. Hope she is okay and it's nothing too serious.

I think her friendship with Ingrid was fun to watch, but we all know the mess that Ingrid became for a while there. Not the coming out, but the morphing into whoever she dated like some kind of chameleon. It's a shame that they never really worked things out after she pushed Fleur away.

Fleur is clearly extroverted and loves having friends around. The minute she’s back from a trip she already has a friend over. Her childhood friends all seem to be of considerable means and able to go on constant vacations with her, yearly ski trips, trips to Portugal for her birthday, summer holidays, etc. I think a lot of people are blinded by their admiration for her when I am personally exhausted by her need for socialization. Don’t understand why youtubers who are more introverted and want to just hole up at home are looked down upon.

I think some of Fleur’s best vlogs were during lockdown when it was just the three of them at home. She didn’t seem upset at not being able to socialise

I think Fleur has always been secure in who she is and that’s reflected in her career and social media etc.

I’ve enjoyed her lockdown content but her other videos are really quite boring. She does need a shakeup from that point of view.

When did I say it was a negative thing? I’m saying fleur is praised for being extroverted when some vloggers just aren’t, and that’s ok.

She had several people over her house for socially isolated hangouts during those vlogs.

Do we think that Fleur will address the recent issue with Jo Malone? She’s worked a lot with the brand over the years and so it’ll be interesting to see if she addresses it or not. I hope so, as I do like Fleur. I’ll be disappointed if she, along with other influencers don’t mention it and carry on working with the brand.

I will be interested to see if she addresses this. The way Jo Malone has treated John Boyega - their first ever male global ambassador - is disgusting.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope she does, along with many influencers who use the brand.

Can someone clue me in on the Jo Malone thing? My understanding was that in an ad for the Chinese market, they used a popular Chinese actor instead. Isn't it fairly normal for brands to use different celebs/influencers for different markets? I get that John felt that they used some of the ideas from his ad and that upset him, but I'm guessing Jo Malone paid him handsomely for those ideas so they are no longer his intellectual property.

Maybe I'm being naive but I honestly don't think it comes from a racist or bad place. Jo Malone should've had a discussion with John about using some of his ideas out of courtesy but at the end of the day, brands hires different ambassadors for different markets for marketing purposes. Of course people in China will prefer a domestic celeb, just like U.S. audiences will prefer an American celeb and the Nigerian market will prefer a Nigerian celeb. It's marketing 101.

(Please don't blow up over my comment - if my understanding is wrong, please enlighten me!)

They didn’t just “use some of his ideas”, he came up with the whole concept and directed the original advert himself, it was based on his own life experiences as a black man growing up in London etc. Also I believe there is a lot of anti-black racism in China, and not only did they recast John Boyega’s role, they didn’t cast any black actors in the new advert at all. They definitely should have run the Chinese advert past John for his approval at the very least.

I used to work in the Marketing department for a Education Institution, we had to white washed our marketing materials by removing dark skin students and replaced it with white students if it were to send to certain countries in Asia. I hated it, because is racist and it is a false representation of the diversity in the campus. Glad I left!

My experience working with the region tells me that they will prefer white> Local :( that is also the reason why many of the local ads in Asia will use mixed race models because many of them still view fair skin as the superior one

I probably didn’t explain this eloquently enough

So I watched both ads (and John's was much better - the Chinese one just seemed like some young people having a good time) and while they definitely took some inspiration from the original ad, it wasn't really the same imho. London wasn't even a feature in the alternative ad nor was it about anyone's childhood.

Anti-black racism anywhere is of course sad, but if they're trying to sell a product in China, why wouldn't they fill it with mostly a Chinese cast? I don't recall any white or hispanic people in the Chinese ad either (or a Chinese person in the original ad). I absolutely agree that they should've asked John for his opinion on the alternative version or at least gave him a heads up.

I'm very sorry to hear this. That is definitely unfortunate and I hope that over time, the perception will change. I didn't know even advertisement for schools were so targeted.

For the Jo Malone alternative ad, they seem to have filled it with Asians, which I think makes sense given the racial makeup of that area. I'm all for diversity and inclusion but I guess from a marketing/sales perspective, I get why they made the decision they made, and I don't think it was done out of racism or malice. At the end of the day, they're a business trying to make money and doing what they think will appeal to a specific market. Just my two cents.
