I need to figure out how to private message you to ask where you work because WOW. Please tell me you're in CA?

So AFAIK no grippers were used he did palmar grasp or normal grasp he switches between which to me signals hand fatigue. His OT sucks but I cannot switch because she was brand new to his case and then covid happened. She doesn't even email me what to have ready for his teletherapy. So annoying.

For his writing - are you using any grippers with the pencils? No

If no, or if just basic ones, try a CLAW or a Twist-n-Write (although this one might be a bid advanced for him yet). NuMuvs aren't bad either, but they are a little bit pricier and not as attractive to kids, I find. I like HandiWriters, too but tend to use them a little farther down the learning-to-write street.- Girl I am on it.

Regarding cutting, what kind of scissors are being used? Regular safety scissors are used. He will cut correctly but after a while go to using two hands again I said hand fatigue and they said he seems to have normal strength. He is about to be 5. I'
m going to add easigrip to my shopping cart for him/

For cutting material - what kind of paper is he cutting?- so he did a lot of line cutting and squares on regular paper. At home I do a mix of regular printing paper where I print shapes or construction paper. We've even cut playdough at home because he likes to make spaghetti so I thought hey lets use them here

Ialways prefer to use patterns (just simple lines, corners, circles, etc. in the beginning) because it gives an actual visual cue as to where to go next - saves some processing time.- hedoes GREAT and lines but when it is a shape he sometimes doesn't turn ie the circle. Now with mommy OT his squares are getting there as are rectangles. Triangles are for some odd reason trickier for him? The diagonal lines. Circles forget it it isn't working and he is getting upset. I wonder if he has midline issues? I'm spouting shit though because sll of this is google degree since his OT isn't the best she seems taken aback by my questions and again can't even respond to emails what activities to do. We colored for 30 minutes on teletherapy once! He needs a lot of input crashes and jumps etc and she ignores his sensory system.

In terms of holding the paper, I have used a lot of different things in the past - rubber finger tips, sticky tack, tongs (these come in lots of cool colors and shapes to try - you can often get kits with slightly different grips, etc.) All of this stuff can be found online from a variety of different stores - I just didn't know if I was allowed to link stuff.--- this is genius his OT just said he hasn't figured it out and to keep prompting or helping him turn it but I feel he is capable of so much more if the expectations are there. Yes he has some real deficits but he's only 4.... let's not put a cap on what he can do(no IDD) and just shoot for challenging him until he can't? His self care is off the charts this kid dresses, undresses, zips his own including connecting, blows his own nose etc etc
You are a godsend!
I seriously think it's time to get a new OT. She is clearly incapable of doing her job properly. A good OT would have responded to your questions and made sure your son was actually progressing. She should take lessons from the ladies I had when I was his age.

AnP actually do take Abbie out and about. I’ve seen them take her to the movies, hockey game, volleyball (summer’s) meets, waterparks, hiking, camping, Walmart, Target etc.

There is no expanding Abbie’s “worldview.” You can’t expand on what you don’t already possess.
I don't think I've seen hiking or camping or movies since I've been watching, but you're right I was forgetting stores like Walmart and Target. They do take her places, there are just a few they really harp on - like Dunkin and the post office, etc.

I remember now that they made a point of saying that she used to be very bothered in the big box groceries stores and now isn't as phased, which I suppose is good. I actually remember having an internal debate now over whether or not desensitizing her to something that won't be practical for her future was actually a good thing or not if it upset her that much or not. But there are a lot of things like that I don't feel informed enough to have a real opinion on because I don't have any firsthand experience with teenagers (or anyone) like Abbie. I am inclined to trust that JSA/Brandi know what they're doing and considers it a benefit for Abbie to be going to the stores, though, so if A&P are following through on that good for them. But I still think their style of speaking over her and ignoring her choices isn't beneficial to instilling any sense of "independence" in her.

I’m sorry if this is a repeat. The article says Abbie worked with the specialist for 10 years, and Abbie was 12 when the article was published. Am I that bad at math or do the numbers not match up?
I replied on page 41...looks like she was a teacher in the public school system

a teacher with Duval County Public Schools

Like I said in that post who knows what services Abbie has had in the past

She's got to be rolling in commission money. It's mind boggling.

Well at least she kind of found the blending app or brush and assa has been fine tuning his photoshop skills
I know the spots on her chest is probably sun damage but she also has the discoloration on the sides of her neck..

That's one of the flags for insulin resistance, I really wonder when her last check up was since her and Assa are prime candidates for type 2 diabetes

Darkening skin of armpits, neck

I’m actually really shocked that they would even put her in public school. Like you said - special ed or not! Do they understand how difficult that shit is even for a typical person? Wtf were they thinking? Just goes to show ... again, how they wanted to be selfish and greedy. They should have homeschooled her in the beginning ... but then again, there goes their free time and also lawsuit money. I wonder how much trauma /ptsd she has from those days ... ugh
They were both working at the time without a lot of money with no speciality or even knowledge about ABA or the other therapies at the time. She also maybe didn’t even have her Medicaid waiver at the time, depending on when that was granted. Just how were they in anyway equipped to homeschool her?

I mean ... you all know how public schools can be. Especially during the early years, I’m sure she was subject to a bunch of bullying... cause some kids can be mean af. P should have been teaching her while Ass was at the shop or whatever. But she said she is not cut out for the “stay at home” shit. But really, you’re a stay at home mom P. I guess they were trying to “fix” her from that long ago.
His engine shop closed down for not making any money. Priscilla was working to pay the bills.

None of us is privy to the settlement agreement but the way those things go, I feel safe saying that the lawyers made out better than the Massives. It could be an annuity payment or a lump sum.
It would have to have been millions of dollars either way and I highly doubt it was anywhere near even 1 million.
Even if it was, the lawyers got 1\3 of it.
I think that whatever they got was just enough to pay for JSA a few years then the YT money kicked in. Along with that and McKay Scholarship and now MLM scamming, it's all paid for.
But yeah.
Nobody knows the details of the settlement.
It's opinion and speculation.
Here’s an article that touches on the case:https://news.wjct.org/post/duval-family-takes-special-education-fight-social-media

She is really stuffed into that top. I dont understand why she is ordering items that do not fit. Just because you can SQUEEZE intp something doesnt mean you should. She would look thinner if she wore the proper size....wearing things 2 sizes too small isnt helping the weight loss narrative.
That's what i was thinking it would be more flattering to wear something nice, and try and squeeze into something that
is so tight and it must be uncomfortable!!

Did Abbie “surf”🤦🏻‍♀️at any other events, or just the one time in the video we’ve all seen? The article makes it seem like it, or maybe I read it wrong. If it was such a positive experience for her, why didn’t ASSa & 🐷 get her out there on a regular basis? I know the answer, (lazy) but it’s worth saying. 🤷‍♀️
why doesnt SumSum take her out surfing more? they are besties! it would be great!

Yep. In the link I posted yesterday from the JAX newspaper, Duvall Co had to repay the Maass any OOP expenses they had paid for home therapy, but refused to pay the cost difference annually for JSA after the McKay scholarship was applied. The amt the school would've had to pay was $25k a year. Asa said "The difference was $100k".....so one could assume a 4 yr deal. So we pretty much know they didnt get any "settlement bucks".....if they had Medicaid they wouldnt have been paying for home therapy anyway.

I think he said that was when Isaiah was young and liked to watch infomercials on TV LOL
The difference of $100k was his estimating the cost to the school providing the services vs just paying for JSA. He’s saying that the staff and tools needed to provide her what is required would cost $125k or they could just pay $25k.

I can guarantee that what you described is exactly the approach the teachers take. I can’t imagine the world revolving around Abbie when they have x number of students to take take care of when they take them out. I’m sure she acts the same exact way when she’s out with her class as she does with her family. There is no way that every little one of her desires would be met - other than going to the bathroom.
Didn't say that every single thing is dependent on Abbie or that they're giving in to each and every desire that Abbie may have. That's just unrealistic in any sense.
From what I understand about JSA, each student's experience is more tailored to them and trying to meet their individual needs than it would be at a general public school. They're also supposed to have smaller class sizes which helps with student to teacher ratio. So, they are going to be more attentive to her in comparison to a general public school.

Sorry if I'm slow. Lol. Im not sure how this works. Do I just comment what's on my mind? Is so, then here goes. I believe in my experience of counseling with people, the maass family needs therapy. Especially the parents. They are really struggling with accepting the hard truth of their marriage, their daughter's mental condition and weight issues. I tried talking to Asa, but he has rejected the help. He has hidden my comments unfortunately.
No worries. You're fine. Yes, you comment what's on your mind. As long as what you post doesn't go against the terms and rules for this site (There's a link for that at the very bottom of the page).. then it's all good.

I don't think they got a payout in the lawsuit, but maybe they did. But They did get her the McKay Scholarship until she ages out of public school. That pays for her to go to a private school if public school can't fit her needs. Not sure the age they age out in Florida, but it is usually early 20s.

“Returns to a public school; Graduates from high school, or. Reaches the of 22, whichever occurs first.”

JSA goes by grade right? So Abbie is technically going into the 10th grade. When she leaves JSA would that be considered graduating high school?
