I ended up just liking this because I couldn't decide between laughing smiley or sad smiley. :)

Just read the comments under yesterday's vlog.
She says the listing only applies to exterior and chimneys.
Let the carnage begin!
And all of the other original features like fireplaces, doors, original wall-decoration... basically anything attached to the building that is old. And anything that isn't old might still have to be done using certain materials, colours and methods. It's grade II* listed which comes with more restrictions than a grade II listed building.

I just looked it up and the inside of a building, it's layout and any structure attached to a building is included in the listing.

Even sculpture and painting can be included in the listing.

I am looking in to that now can a house just have exterior and chimneys listed.
As you say the interior has too many original features for it not to be listed too.

If she wants to do anything to the inside she would have to get listed building consent, even for some things she would not need planning permission for. Such as removing historic feature like fireplaces, decorative plasterwork etc.

A house is always listed as a whole, outside and inside.

I found some info here: https://www.arun.gov.uk/listed-building-frequently-asked-questions/

If you carry out unauthorised work or do not follow the details of approved plans, you will be in contravention of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. This may result in enforcement proceedings. You will be required to make good any damage or to reinstate any works which are not approved at your own expense. You may also be liable to prosecution as carrying out unauthorised works to a Listed Building is a criminal offence.
Examples of unauthorised works where reinstatement has been required include:
  • Installation of new windows, particularly uPVC or stained finished windows which are rarely appropriate in Listed Buildings.
  • Poor re-pointing of brickwork.
  • External re-painting in a different colour.
  • Installation of roof windows.
  • Internal alterations (eg: new openings/removal of walling)
  • Removal of internal doors.
  • Alterations to staircases.

In Josie's case a lot of things hinge on how much of the interior is original and how much was done in the recent renovation and also when the building was listed. Would be a good idea to get listed building consent in any case because it could prevent pretty serious issues in the future, especially considering she'll be filming the changes she makes to the house.

Was just going to post a screenshot of that page. Lol
It says it's a common misconception that listings are for the exterior only, they are for the entirety of the house.
So she is either stupid or trying to throw of the hounds!

In terms of interior decoration, I think we’re going to see a big massacre live. I sincerely hope that someone will stop her in her princess palace delusions. This magnificent house deserves much better.

My neighbour had said that the reason mainstream lenders wont give mortgages on listed buildings is because in the instance of repossession they are very difficult to sell on.
I have since read that any changes to structure or even basic decor of a listed property can devalue it dramatically.
She isn't looking to the long term is she?
Even this thread has shown how offensive people are finding her decor choices. She will struggle to sell if she has too, which a lot here think she will.

Thanks for doing all this! If I were British, I'd report them to the authorities! I'm sure they don't adhere to the regulations for II* listed buildings! Just giving them a hint so that they could look further into their violations.

Well, at least there are people here looking out for the house.

As beautiful as they are, I would hate to live in a listed building. I’d rather be in a new build that looks old than a genuinely old build.

We also know that Josie is above disclosure and lockdown rules. I’m sure she’ll be above Grade II* rules as well, my darlings.

Just watching yesterday's vlog... this dressing room is going to annoy her to hell... with those eaves, if she has hanging space ging down the middle she'll really have to watch out that she has enough space on either side that she can walk without hitting her head on the beams.

I'd love to live in a listed building but only if I have enough money to keep up with all of the specialist repairs and if the floor plan is already perfect for me.

Totally get that. It’s just that some are really impractical. A friend of mine lived in one and to reach the guest room, you had to verge on breaking your neck with these crazy stairs. I understand the importance of keeping it that way, it’s just difficult. Imagine if you become disabled or you have disabled guests as well...really no accommodations in some of these buildings.

Small SURVEY, just for the fun of this thread:

Obviously, we are all annoyed with Lady Aga and her house & garden joke. I sometimes ask myself, if so, why on earth do I still flick through their vlogs and not stop watching at all? Actually and normally in real life, it’s none of my business how other people look or how they live. In real life, I restrain from judging others and try to live and let live. Not so with influencers: Well, one reason why I keep on flicking through the vlogs is just for the fun of this thread. I love to read and comment on your funny and often insightful posts and it’s a kind of distraction from my job. However, that’s the only reason, why I keep on track with those weirdos. Mostly, I get annoyed with primarily the house joke Charlie, then I don’t like what the channel has turned into – namely, a mere advertising channel -, after a few seconds watching, Ads pop up, which turns me off already. And when I read your comments on how they ruin that beautiful house by making a pink castle out of it, destroying nature around the house, pretending to be Lady and Lord of Cotswold while being dumb as tit, I’m really so fed up with them that I swear to myself not watching anymore. I don’t know whether I’d better stop watching them at all. I mean, each click on their videos helps them to move on with that crap, right. I don’t want to be one of their promoters. If there’s only one click less, I’d belong to the change I want to see in the world.

HOW ABOUT YOU? Have you ever thought of your reasons why you keep on watching? It’ll be fun if you posted them and we’d endorse each others masochism – haha! :)

My reasons to keep on watching (flicking through the vlogs):

  • First and foremost: this thread and the community here
  • Distraction from my job (I’m working from home at the moment)
  • I love this beautiful historic house
  • I actually came from the Clapham house in London, which I loved more, kept on watching…
  • It’s fun imagining how to furnish the house – I love interior design and architecture, which I’m obsessed with for my own house (totally different to their style of course :) )
  • Escapism? I love to live where I live, I’m completely satisfied with my own house, but I am dreaming of a holiday home in England (just dreaming!)
  • Are we all masochistic when we keep on occupying ourselves with those weirdos?

WHAT ARE YOUR REASONS TO KEEP ON WATCHING? Looking forward to reading your replies! :)

I absolutely agree! The proportions and layout can be an absolute nightmare. And sometimes the ceilings are so low with beams anyone over 6'2'' would knock their head on! On the other hand, many have been modernised so much that every room has a chunk cut out for an en suite that has no windows.

Here are my reasons I still watch, ad blocker enabled of course :ROFLMAO:
  • hate watching to call her out on her bs and laugh at her clownish behavior on this thread
  • keeping a close eye on the preservation of that beautiful home (that she definitely doesn't deserve)
  • the countryside and gardening content is relaxing I guess
  • those dogs are pretty cute when you mute out Josie's grating voice
  • maybe we secretly enjoy watching a train wreck happen in slow motion?

I've watched a lot more influencers' videos since Corona, in part due to a lack of other things to do and in part just wanting to watch something that's not another Corona update. On that topic though, for anyone who speaks german, I can really recommend the NDR Corona Update with Prof Drosten fro the Berlin Charité. He's an expert on epidemiological Coronaviruses and was involved with the SARS outbreak too so he knows what he's talking about and the podcasts also go into a good amount of detail for something addressed to the general public.

Now on to Josie:
I would watch a video or two before the move when she came up in my recommended videos on youtube but not much more than that. I really like the style of the house she moved into and I guess I do watch in part because I would love to live in an old house like that (not one over 300m² mind, hers is much too big in my opinion). I don't like hertaste at all and that in combination with the house is another reason I watch the videos. It's like watching a train wreak in slow motion, on the one hand I don't want to see what she does to the building, on the other hand I can't not watch. It's bizarrely entertaining in a way her bland boring style videos weren't.
I won't lie, gossip can be fun and entertaining, especially when there is something to gossip about. I don't like to talk about people I know though or know about third hand through magazines so I suppose influencers fill the gap. The material we have to gossip about is what they themselves have put on the internet and they have made themselves people of public interest as such I just feel less bad talking about the things I think they do wrong. Add to that, that a number of them engange in ver sketchy behaviour that is harmful to others.

Oh yes, I almost forgot Corona over this thread! Especially when all started with the pandemic, it was such a welcome distraction to watch Lady Aga and read this thread here! I watch Prof. Drosten too! He's one of my go-to experts when I want to know more about the virus.
And true, probably influencers serve as a valve for letting of a little steam when we don't want to speak badly of people we know in real life. They are public people after all, who should be used to be judged.

Exactly, and I don't need to worry about information certain newspapers (Murdoch owned ones in particular) might have found through phone hacking because they post it all themselves and can pre-edit what they show. And lets face it, we wouldn't be talking about them if they didn't consistently try to make money dishonestly by not disclosing ads and conning viewers.
