I've just watched part of their latest offering and they have convinced Mia that she doesn't need an education to go into business. How is she going to learn the ins and outs of setting up her own business and running it? She could learn from Darren but he would only have limited knowledge surely? They can't even articulate what they are trying to tell their 'Fizz Fam'.
Home schooling when done well can be a great thing, but unschooling is limiting your child's prospects if they are not especially bright or gifted in something that has potential career prospects. Schooling is so much more than learning stuff you will never use. It's learning to learn, it's learning to socialise, it's setting the foundations of fitting into society. I think these kids will grow up and realise what a disservice their parents have done them.
They say they are set for life. Have they really earned that much money over the course of their time on YouTube? I hope for their kids sake that they have. My guess is that we'll hear some horror stories in years to come.
What they don't seem to grasp is that Mia will need to be somewhat educated if she wishes to go into the literary world. The parents can't string a cohesive sentence together, so how much hope do the kids have? She probably won't have the Fizz Fam following forever, who will buy her books then? So many who make money fast loose it because they don't have education to fall back on to help them look after their financial matters. It's not the be all and end all but it helps.
