hi! long time lurker here! I don't know about you but there's something about Eve (especially her instagram stories) that has been sooooo annoying to me since around the pandemic started. I don't know, I feel almost bad about it, because her exam vlogs from when she was doing her LPC are amazing and I rewatch them all the time for study motivation. I don't know what exactly it is that's bugging me?? maybe it's her being pretentious but honestly idk maybe I'm just jealous bc she's only slightly older than me and has already achieved so much haha. I wish I didn't find her as annoying as I do but her whole 'online persona' is so infuriating now and her videos (especially the latest one) have been boring as hell

Normally NQ jobs start being discussed/coming up for application a few months before qualification. In a big firm trainees will apply for vacancies in the team they want to qualify into or start looking at other firms (assuming they want to stay in the law). Once they start as an NQ, standard notice periods are three months (unless negotiated down).

Yup most notice periods are a few months, meaning when Eve qualified in Sept she likely handed in her notice within a few weeks. It’s so wrong that she took a qualification place from someone else.

I wonder when going to stop using “Lawyer” in all her bios. SRA can pull her up for that considering she’s not practicing anymore

Is it definitely rented? I'm surprised she's just blowing more dead money on rent. You would have thought she would have had enough to buy somewhere by now with the earnings she's been on.

The whole “blowing dead money on rent” doesn’t really stick here in London. My friends from my hometown don’t get it either so I understand the attitude.

But the vast majority of under 35s here rent. Deposits here are the highest in the country. Plus the quality and location you can get with buying varies massively to renting. I even had a friend that managed to buy a house in Ealing through auction but ended up selling it and renting in central again because location is so important for career and social life.

The way she was talking about it was giving the impression she’d be buying… the place is nice tho

Her jobs basically micromanging. Constantly asking much more knowledgable engineers and devs “how you doing on this” every hour of the day.

Her continuous comparison to law is so boring and inaccurate too. Claiming in law you don't hear what your other members are doing- false. I have yet to work in a firm where we dont speak about what we are working on weekly in a all team meeting.

Yeah, she seems to do almost nothing. She's essentially just a glorified team leader who obscures the fact that she knows very little by parroting the stuff the dev team have said, but adds a cringeworthy amount of random buzzword jargon and cites self-help mantra bullshit to try to make herself sound intelligent and important.

It's pretty close to the approach she took to studying, and I had flashbacks to that awful podcast she did where she just spouted 30 minutes of pretentious waffle to hide the fact that she wasn't actually saying anything of merit or value.

"Ya gal's using the board-based waterfall approach of Kanban and time-blocking her workstream so I can engage in deep-work while monitoring the product roadmap." In reality, her day seemed to amount to: Asked the devs what they're doing, then told the client what the devs are doing.

She also just mispronounces a bunch of common words again ("ven-doors", "routee-ehn", "emahls", "cultchruh shock") which doesn't exactly help make her seem intelligent.

But a six figure salary for a few years in your twenties will set you up nicely with a house deposit and the start of a decent pension before you step back or away.

I’m a law student so I’m basically her perfect audience to an extent. I just don’t care about her life, how she set up her wfh station or anything along those lines. It’s not helpful for me and honestly, I think if I started taking an interest it would probably make me feel pretty shit when I graduate and struggle to find a job in the field

I’m not exactly into following people on IG either, but she doesn’t even seem to be that interesting there either. It’s like following someone your friends with but don’t keep up with that much basically, just check up on how they’re doing occasionally out of pure interest

Plus someone (I think) on here said that you usually stay on to becoming an associate in the firm where you did your training. It’s not incredible eve

I think you guys are misunderstanding the male gaze, its not about you being under men's scrutiny. It's about you knowing you're under men's scrutiny and changing yourself/ carrying yourself a certain way for the men that are watching you. When Eve said it's good to not be under the male gaze, she meant that she stopped caring about those men that are watching her, and therefore now carries herself in whatever way she wants. Most women, straight or not, are affected by the male gaze, its just a part of living in a patriarchal society, but the end goal for many of us is to stop caring about the male gaze. However, many of us have already achieved this and dont give a shit about what men think, and as you said "dress for ourselves", So just because SHE no longer cares about the male gaze, doesn't mean she's insinuating that everyone else does care.

it also is not something you can always control. Being catcalled or other unwanted attention from a man is a part of "the male gaze" but that's something that's happening to you as a woman no matter your sexuality or if you even wanted it in the first place.

Randomly thought of her during the week and caught up on this thread, then the new video popped up on my youtube. She's a bit too chirpy/preachy for my taste and I do find her quite dramatic - example A, the montage of her on the tube at the beginning of the video lol. BUT, it always seemed obvious even to me as a casual watcher that she was too creative to be a lawyer for life.

Also, nothing to do with the video, but she has never looked so unreal! Obsessed with the haircut and glasses.

I hope she'll now start doing more videos on her work and the TC experience, her LPC videos were by far the best but there hasn't been anything similar in ages. I noticed someone saying Links has a +90% offer rate but well done to her nonetheless, must've still been a lot of work.

I wonder if her housemate also got an associate position or if its going to be a similar situation to 2018 where one of her housemates didn't get a TC.

I'm actually also curious why she chose Linklaters over the other firms she got a TC from.

I also looked through her IG earlier to see if she ever had a very narrow set of styles and honestly she still wore a lot of suits. They may have been a more feminine colour but that’s about it.
