Yeah, when I went to university the professors even joked about how every law student imagined themselves working as a criminal lawyer at one point but as we go through uni that number changes drastically…I was the odd one out with my interest in taxation

Hmm I think you'd be surprised. It's easy to take the moral high ground on taking the money when it remains a hypothetical scenario. However, I imagine when the the opportunity is placed in front of you for real i.e. a training contract offer from Linklaters is on the table it must be very difficult to pass up that opportunity I would think. I'm not blaming her I think I'd do the same thing. Imagine being in your early 20s and earning over £100k a year she's only going to go upwards from there in earnings. She's set herself for life here and well done to her for that.

I have to bring that up again, are you sure this is about Eve? I feel kinda bad for her, a lot of Law Students around the world look up to her and are inspired and motivated by her, although her content isn't perfect (no ones is), I don't think it's fair to say that she shouldn't have been hired?

Definitely sucks for her, and I agree it's not fair to say she shouldn't have been hired. Eve seems like a really hard worker (off-camera mostly, and actually working towards a goal unlike some other studytubers), while still having a social life and hobbies and activities on the side.

I don't know what law students generally think of Eve, but I found her "omg I'm such a law student!" because she had a highlighter in her hand, worked until 1 am or drank a lot of coffee pretty cringy. Those are things most students do? For me, that reinforced the stereotype that law students think they're better and more hard-working than anybody else lol

Well in my cohort (im at a different firm) we all think she's just bit cringe. and lawyers are just very dry humoured peeps and her enthusiasm is nauseating. She comes across very obnoxious and all knowing when she's just a trainee (her marching around, showing the office tour on YouTube I bet went down like a lead balloon with her colleagues).

I know I'd be pissed off if someone started at where I'm working swanning around like they owned the place doing an office tour sponsored by my employer and then I found out they were making videos before being qualified claiming they were the thing they were training to be.

Really not impressed by her and Jack Edward's insta stories this evening - she's dying his hair, thus breathing all other him, and they have a third mate present indoors too (whose hair Eve also plays with). If that's what they'll publicly share, it makes me doubt they give a shit about social distancing overall.

I want to go back to the normal of being physically close to my friends, too, but it's not safe to do so at the moment.

Like yeah, she's done a few talks about being LGBT and in law at her old uni, but what exactly has she actually done for our movement and community that needs honouring?

She literally came out six months ago, she's a baby in terms of activism and speaking up for the community.

Perhaps it's the fact that she's in a career that's usually very straight dominated. There's been a lot of push recently to have law firms seem approachable to LGBT people and to give them representation in that area

That being said, she hasn't actually done anything and presumably would have applied as an applicant who thinks they're 'straight' and fits in at the company

At the end of the day, everyone has their own personal limits as to the hours and intensity of work that they're able to withstand until they leave the profession. I personally know quite a number of my classmates who left law right after their training ended, one of the top students left 3-4 months into being qualified due to the rigorous work hours in a top firm.

There's also a mass exodus of new lawyers within the industry in my country and the law society president said this "The 21st-century lawyers are different. They want to marry, not the law, but a human being. They, too, want to work hard. They, too, want their work to have meaning. But they also want other things that human beings want: to have children, to build a home, to have a life outside the law."
like sorry we realized early on that we're human beings who don't want to lead miserable, work-focused lives like you lot. I think the pandemic has also put into perspective that there's no point to being a corporate slave.

oh yeah, I hate this " desensitized from murder cases " excuse (some comments also mentioned it), like damn girl, there are students of history who might have also seen/read about a lot of shit, but sure as hell it wouldn't be okay for them to make a quirky little video about Khmer Rouge . I have no idea how she thought it would be great to take up this recent case in this way... Like I get it, it can be interesting to see the process of her research or the current discussions about some topic, but to choose specifically something this recent and tragic to go with this style of editing is just dumb. All it misses is her dropping some Jack Edwards' style puns.

It seems to me that Eve generally has problems with dressing professionally. Regardless of whether she conforms to gender roles or not. The look in her tiktok is cute though. I hope she'll stick to similar styles and doesn't go back to crop-tops.

My issue is that she marketed MCC as a 'club' not just merch. Those who bought the products therefore expected more than the product itself, but to feel involved in some sort of 'hustle culture' community or whatever. Eve just made the money and - quite literally - disappeared. They were massively mis-sold in that respect

Just a general financial curiosity thing... what would people do if they were similarly on a wage of £107k a year and what would Eve be able to do with that money within the general context of her living and working in London?

Well, 69,349 after tax. 5700 (about) a month. She lives with housemates, I don't know the area but say 1.5k a month, leaving 4200. Sub pass, general groceries leave at least 3500. She could buy a lot of makeup/clothes, order in meals every day, do whatever and STILL be left with like 2500. Sooo... A LOT.

Lool she does like to exaggerate, she’s not going to be coding on a client secondment for crying out loud.

Also not sure why she chose to bother with a secondment during work from home times, would have made more sense to sit in a new practice area and get more qualification options.
