So she decided to explain her long absence with.... An apartment reveal! A way to not have to actually go to the trouble of cobbling up an apology. It's just "please infer, dear viewer, my absence was due to moving"... Even though, as people on here have already shared, she left her prior "home" 3 weeks ago so that's a lot of bs (bad sex she's been having with the undesirable men of Seattle 😂).

If we're truly supposed to be experiencing it like she is, FoR tHe FiRsT tImE, she definitely should have turned the camera around. It cuts out her ability to eye duck herself but there's no need for us to be staring at her the whole video. The video is about the apartment, Eleanor... It's not titled "Wanna rent a YouTube Princess... Seattle Scammer Reveal" 🙄

She already can't figure out the door lock and "she's not going to try and figure it out"... For that I don't blame her. We all remember her misadventures with opening various bottles.

Oh Eleanor... Double fridge. Honey, it's called a French Door fridge. Being French and all, I figured you would have NAILED that one 😂😂😂

Is that a water view? It's sooo far away I couldn't tell... Figured it might have just been a mirage. And as she's talking about her wonderful water view the brain starts short-circuiting with her "THREE..." I know back on GG I suggested that was indicative of something wrong in her brain vs the popular alternative opinion of it being an editing thing. Glad to see more people are comin' over to my camp 😂 I definitely think it's some kind of nervous tic or anxiety issue bc it seems to come up in certain situations (in this video, she's talking about her past water views...she prob was thinking back to that luscious water view from Joe's apt... let's face it, that was far and away the ultimate...hell she had it framed...I do think it eats at her how that life is no longer hers 😂).

Can we just take a minute to imagine if she had actually taken her lawyer practice as seriously as she likes to lie about it? She might be able to afford a decent view... She could be like Joe, be able to afford those killer apts he could. Oh if only Eleanor...

I'll give it to her... She can really attempt to sell anything. I could imagine her wheedling to be able to post a "prison cell tour" and talking up the "comfy yet minimal surroundings and the weathered tile-esque walls" 😂 Her calling that a "den" is insane. It's a closet.

Lingering on her reflection in the bathroom felt super awkward. Like I was about to watch somebody have sex with themselves. I'm here to hate watch only... Don't push any more cringe on me.

Skipped becomes skepped in Eleanor-speak.
Wasted becomes a-wasted in Eleanor-speak.
Hook becomes Huck in Eleanor-speak.
God, you are amazing! 😂🤣👍

She should turn the camera away from her face. Watching her eyes dart every which way is distracting. Her eyes are getting significantly worse! If I were her I would go to an eye doctor.
Yeah, I noticed it is a lot easier to get screenshots of her being crosseyed.

It might be too late for her to be able to do anything with her eyes at this point, although it wouldn’t hurt to see an ophthalmologist to get an opinion. Personally if I were her I’d rather pay top dollar to get my eyes fixed over all those plastic surgeries. 😂

Elle is clearly insufferable or this thread wouldn't be rocking and rolling but I'm curious to see what is the biggest reason you ladies dislike her (among many totally justifiable reasons). Is it:

1. The lying
2. Selfishness: taking advantage of her subscribes, mother, various men/victims
3. Her privilege and inability to be grateful for that/make good use of it
4. Her ever-changing smug mug :ROFLMAO:
5. Refusal to take responsibility for her own actions or work on herself

Something else?

For me, it's definitely a combination of all this but the one that bothers me the most is probably the lying. Even though the other stuff is clearly problematic, dishonesty in a person just rubs me the wrong way and I feel like it impacts every part of her character and influences her actions.

@svdwoodsen definitely a combination of all those, but if I had to pick one that stands out it’s definitely the lying/dishonesty. She even lies about little things that aren’t even a big deal to most...like, why??? And as you said, her dishonesty impacts all the other bad characteristics about her.

Oh my God, THANK YOU for bringing this up! I thought I was going crazy but I'm glad other people see it as well. I swear to God that when she faces the camera directly and talks for a prolonged period of time, sometimes one of her eyes would do a twitch and close partially and then open again and it FREAKS ME OUT because it's like half her face fell asleep for a second. The cross eye thing also happens really often.

Yeah, it’s super odd. She always had lazy eyes, but for whatever reason it’s gotten much worse. I didn’t really think about it until PrePackingPrep mentioned it and it dawned on me how often I was able to grab screenshots of her being crosseyed. 😂

On some level I feel kinda bad because it’s not like she can help having lazy eyes, but I don’t understand how she can live here without health insurance. If she did she could get a referral and go to a specialist to get her damn eyes checked out.

She has to file with the IRS every year. You’re exempt from tax for the first $100,000 of income or so (I think they adjust for inflation each year). Also, you don’t get double taxed. You report whatever taxes you are paying in your home country. Someone mentioned YouTube money isn’t taxed. How can that be? Isn’t all income taxed?
I meant that YouTube doesn't withhold taxes so it is up to the individual to report that income and pay taxes on it.

Maybe she's tried getting it fixed before but it didn't work? I wonder if all these things (the pre-braces teeth, lazy eye, pre-plastic surgeries, etc.) combined with her defensive, condescending attitude is what made her get bullied in school. Not saying bullying is ever ok but I can imagine Elle getting made fun of for say, her teeth (kids will be kids and these things happen to almost everyone), and getting very upset and talking down at the other kids, making them all shun her.

As someone mentioned before, youtube is probably the first time in her life where she had people telling her she was pretty and "princess-like" and Smelley ate up all the compliments and positive attention she never got in real life. That combined with her relationship with Chris (who was quite unattractive but had his own startup with a decent lifestyle and propelled Elle from Walmart hauls to designer handbags) probably made her feel like she proved the haters wrong and overinflated her already large ego.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Elle tried. I think Ginette really should have “fixed” some of the cosmetic issues when Elle was young (re: get her proper braces and corrective eye surgery). On GG it was mentioned that lazy eyes are nearly impossible to fix when you’re older and it’s best to do it when the child is young. Then again there could have been a number of reasons why Ginette didn’t do these things, and I have no authority over telling people how they raise their kids. I would never want children of my own and will never understand parenthood, but I think most loving parents try to do the best they can.

It’s too bad Elle is how she is. She needs to see a therapist.

I totally agree with what you're saying. It's really tough to be a parent, and probably even harder to be a single parent like Ginette is.

I think a lot of kids that got bullied like Elle end up with issues that they need to be resolved with therapy, and there is no shame in that (I've always felt that therapy is a good idea for everyone, even if just to have a confidential person to rant to!). I'm not familiar with treatment for lazy eyes but what Ginette should've done was get a head gear and braces for Elle as a kid, which would've helped with both the teeth and pre-surgery weak chin. But I agree with you that it's not in our place to tell people how to raise their children, even if they turn into nightmares like Eleanor Lecocq.

OMG - I had to go back and rewatch the part where she actually tries to call the utility closet a freaking DEN!!!
My first condo was a one bedroom plus den, plus utility closet with a washer/dryer. She cannot be THAT stupid even if the leasing agent said that right? If it's for the viewers benefit, she can't think they're all THAT stupid, can she?! lol

Can someone rewatch her entering the bedroom? I swear I hear her say "So stepping into the bedroom I remember the first time you showed me this place on facetime" ... Sounds like she's got the leasing agent on her mind...I guess that explains her lingering mirror shots lol!

Her hair is greasy in the apartment video AND the cut she gave herself is very bad. Any professional hairdresser would cry.

Those grease curtain bangs she gave herself look absolutely ridiculous. Almost as bad as her super light wash jeans and black tshirt pairing!

Super light wash jeans are almost universally unflattering, especially on someone with a thick middle section and thighs like Elle. That entire outfit was a mess!

For someone who allegedly loves fashion, she could have came up with something more creative 🙄 where did all those busy prints go? 🕵

This is correct, she would file as an American living abroad with the IRS. As Sheepsmeadow mentioned, you cannot get double taxed and I believe Smelley is unlikely to have ever paid American taxes in her life because Canada has very high taxes, much higher than the majority of places in the US so she would be taxed based on that and pay the Canadian tax authorities instead.

For example, if an American lives abroad in a country with no income tax, they would have to pay federal tax (0-37% of their income, depending on how much they earn) and potentially state tax (depending on the state they’re registered in) to the IRS. If they live in a country that has a 15% tax for example and they’re in the 30% income tax bracket back in the U.S., they would only pay the IRS 15% (the difference). If they lived in a country that had higher taxes than the U.S. (say 45% when they’re in the 35% bracket in the states), they would pay no taxes to the IRS. Hope this clarifies things a bit for everyone. :)

I also think that Smelley may qualify for Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, which means she earns less than 100k USD annually and will have to file each year, but does not have to pay any taxes because she doesn’t earn that much. I’m almost 99% sure that her entry level fraud investigator job does not earn over 100k USD, particularly given how poor the exchange has been for the Canadian dollar for so many years. Her YouTube earnings combined with her not a lawyer salary would not meet this I believe, or would only marginally exceed it.
Wow! If she made less than or only about $100,000 and was spending the way she did, she definitely has zero retirement savings or only a bare minimum and a very meager savings account. She was definitely living paycheck to paycheck. What an idiot. Sorry, I just had to say it. One could live decently on that amount of money and save if one budgets and just lives like a regular young professional, not like some kind of princess who has to treat herself at least once a week!

This is just my speculation so definitely take it with a grain of salt but I don't know any entry level jobs making USD 100k+ unless they are in investment banking & related fields, or programming (even doctors earn very little in the first few years of residency). Given she wasn't an actual in-house counsel or lawyer, I doubt her fraud investigator job was paying close to ~140k Canadian, which is the equivalent of 100k USD. Knowing Smelley's history of lying, I also highly suspect that she doesn't report her youtube income.

I think this would also explain why she spent A LOT more when she had a man to foot the larger bills such as rent, furniture, and appliances. Her income + support from mommy G was probably enough for the occasional Sephora/Nordstrom haul (which she usually only did around the semi-annual sales) and a handbag or two in a blue moon but when she didn't have to shell around ~2k/month for rent, she started the regular Dry Bar visits, luxury candles, and other random hauls.

Its been interesting watching Elle’s community of watchers and subscribers change as her channel has changed. When I first started watching her during the Joe-era, there were tons of comments from other women who were young professionals: lawyers, bankers, techies. I even remember one video where she mentioned having a cleaner, and one of the comments on that video defending her was along the lines of, “I’m also an attorney, and I have a cleaner that comes in once a week. No shame in that at all!”

Those comments started to decline when she moved to FL, and now their completely gone. The people who make comments on her video now seem like perfectly nice ladies. But there are a few that are a little strange. It’s as if some of them desperately want Elle to like them; like she’s the Queen Bee in high school they all admired from afar and wished would have paid attention to them. 🤔

The comments about people being confused of her move from FL to WA are unsurprising but still tickling to read.

I had mentioned this earlier, but one of the things working against Elle (in addition to the caginess) is that YouTube just isn’t as influential as it used to be. It seems like if you didn’t catch that “golden era” in the early-mid 2010s, your channel growth became stagnant. People in their late 20s/early 30s and older may still watch certain channels because they have developed a loyalty to certain YTers over the years. But most younger Millennials and Gen Zers have moved on to other platforms.

Couple this with the observation that she just doesn’t seem that interested in her channel that much anymore, I wonder how much longer she plans on continuing with YT.

Great points, Annie! The true "girl boss" viewers probably found out she was a fraud and stopped watching her or they realized her lifestyle wasn't actually a truly "girl boss" one because it only appeared that way when she had a man to pay for most of it, so they moved onto the channels where women actually had a luxury lifestyle (Fleur Deforce or Mel in Melbourne come to mind) if that's the content they were interested in.

Patricia bright put out a video recently about making money/starting your own business/side business and she did a good job of explaining all the little basics to think about. If Elle was a true "girl boss" she'd have either looked into some of that (how to market , get info on customers etc) and would've actually made money at that enterprise. I think elle is just lazy and was hoping people would buy her stuff bc she's Elle.

Patricia worked in investment banking and had a "normal" job before all of this and she's still hustling and I think that's admirable. There is nothing to admire about Elle. She's a lot like other youtubers who just give up or have no creativity once they get a big ego. Her video on how to dip nails was about as useful as inthefrow's "how to gel nails" nothing better than someone who doesn't know what they are doing making a how to video the first time they attempt something.

Honestly I just think elle isn't that smart either, someone who was smarter would be better at hiding their lies (or would know that honesty is just better all around)

I think as time goes on people are just leaving YouTube and watching content elsewhere and I think a lot of people have just become a lot more critical of who we watch.
