I mean, what's the point of going back and forth on if E&G is in the top 1-2% in what country...

IMHO, whatever social class E&G belong to doesn't justify Elle's spending addition and consumerist value.

Let's face it, they are well to do, even wealthy, but no NYC upper east side wealthy. Still Elle almost (single capita) spends as much every month on shopping as a SAHM in those life circles.

That is the point that I was making i.e. they are affluent, but that doesn't excuse Elle's behaviour.

I beg to differ. Real rich ladies (SAHM) in those circles spend more than Elle. I have a friend who worked as a nanny for one of those really rich families and their live styles are completely different from Ginette and Elle's.

They (the rich family) owns casinos. They had an apartment in Upper East Side, a house in Long Island, and a house by the beach in Florida. They had a chef, nanny for the kids, and a housekeeper. The wife spent way more than Elle shopping - she spent at least $500,000 per year on herself lol (not sure of specifics of what she bought for herself but my friend told me this).

Also a big part of being wealthy and staying wealthy is the connection you have and hold onto. Not only the top rich, even upper middle class people exchange investing ideas all the time, and information is key to winning the S&P.

Good luck managing Ginette's wealth without a support group in your life, Elle.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about average upper middle east side SAHMs, not ultra rich. Wives of mid level bankers, slightly successful movie directors and such, bringing home 500k to 1m annually. There's a huge community of that too. These are the people that belong to the 1-2%, but also have to work hard to stay in 1-2%.

I happened to know a couple of them, and their spending is on par with Elle.

You mean Boy Bag #1, Boy Bag #2, YSL #1, and YSL #2 aren't the same as real friends? 🤯🤪

You can argue that it won't be wise to trust Elle with complete access to her mom's money after she's gone, but is Ginette being wise with it in the first place by letting Elle shovel so much of it into Nordstroms?

I also kind of wonder what Elle's vision is for her ideal future burn for impulse shopping. She's been at 5k a month as a single woman for a few years now. We all know she 100% wanted to marry Joe. How much of a bump do you guys think she expected once she had the first kid and quit her job? Up to 10k a month?

Assuming Joe stayed on the partner track he would have been pulling in what? 300k a year? 200k after taxes. Did Elle really expect him to allow her to spend 120k of that on her shopping problem? That would have only left 80k a year for housing, savings, transportation, nanny (because come on, like Elle's going to want to care for a kid when there are lunches to lunch), college fund, everything else people need in life.

Really, the most prudent financial move Elle could make in her 30's would be to just marry her mom and try to be happy on 'only' 5k a month of shopping. Or she could get therapy so maybe she won't blow 5k a month on trying to 'treat herself' but the former is more realistic.

I completely agree with you! She clearly wants to marry someone who could at least provide her current lifestyle Momma G provides, if not better. That’s why the whole Rickle engagement is so bizarre and unbelievable 😂

Yeah what the heck could Rick have offered SpenderElla? $500 a month? She can blow through that on scented candles alone!

She wants to be married...like yesterday. :ROFLMAO:

Rick got the farthest with Eleanor Florence and he dated her for a way shorter time than Chris or Joe. Those guys even moved in with her after dating for a while and decided that a proposal was not in the cards.

Honestly I think Elle shops (partly) because she is bored. I mean what else does she have in her life? She worked a 9-4 job (she was at the gym at 4:30 pm on some days). She had no other hobbies and Ginette (and her BFs) funds her so she can.

When I got my first job and pay check, I also splurged a lot on makeup, clothes, handbags (not luxury but more Coach, MK, Kate Spade lol). But I realized I didn't need so much stuff, and it was cluttering my apartment. So I stopped, decluttered, and went more minimalist (better on my wallet and better for my apartment decor).

Maybe if Elle had a more constructive hobby, it'll be better for her. Something like training for a half-marathon, or fitness competition, she'd be better off. Or she can go travelling, take some GIA courses as we said previously. But she is so unadventurous. I think most of us here would live better than her if we had all her privileges, money, and free time.

I had one friend like Elle and she took up ballroom dancing as a hobby. She loved to shop, wear makeup and show off. The hobby gave her an outlet to buy pretty clothes, outfits, gowns, and shoes for her hobby, and she travelled extensively for competitions.
Elle does need to get a hobby...or three. It can be so helpful to allocate your time to something else. I did this personally after evaluating my life several years ago and the video I posted a few pages back also brought it up. Even therapists promote it. We cannot make a vacuum in our lives (cutting shopping or anything) without intentionally filling it with something else. If we don't, something easy will fill its place, likely our addictions and habits.

But it will also take self control and restraint. Elle has done great by taking up hiking, but we're still seeing new purchases in her videos. This clearly is not just about adding a hobby. She'll need to be prudent with what she buys, not frivolous, and do some internal work. These are deep seated issues.

The thing is I don't think Elle genuinely enjoys hiking. I believe (of course I could be wrong) is that she's just hiking because it's the cool thing to do in Seattle (PNW area) and there are potentially men she could seek out doing it.

Personally, I think Elle has no goals in her life. I am a better person and spend less when I have goals in front of me (men hunting doesn't count) - like studying for professional exams, saving up for a major purchase like a condo, or something.

I also don't think she's done it more than the couple times she posted about on youtube or social media. Theres no way she's taking down a hike a week (which she has time to do) and not bragging about it all over the internet. A couple hikes a year does not really a hobby make.

That's an excellent point. Are you open to sharing how you evaluated your life and do you recommend any resources that aided your journey? I feel the pandemic has given me a lot of insight that I'd like to utilize to improve my life. No worries if you think thats too personal. 🙂

Noone here can 100% say what Elle's (and/or her mom's) financial situation is but behaviour-wise, she does spend like she's middle-class.

I don’t want to derail the discussion about her family wealth, but I think Elle is working at the moment.
Not full time, but the part-time online teaching. She always teaches the class online in the fall term. She doesn’t need a briefcase for that for sure, but she’s not stringing pearls all day.

That makes her a few thousand dollars are the most. No way that sustains her lifestyle.

No, she isn't teaching that class this semester. On the program website it's listed as being taught next semester (January - May 2021) by Elle.

She literally is stringing pearls all day. And she doesn't need a briefcase, let alone one that cost as much as her rent payment, to shuffle papers from the printer to her desk.

I think she’s primarily man hunting. It’s quite a lot of work to fake a pleasant personna to ensnare a man. 😉
