We have a beagle and he isn't allowed upstairs. Definitely no sleeping on our beds. He has his own lovely bed and to be honest he puts himself to bed at half 9 most nights trained like my kids

I have just bought the first Christmas present and it is.... for the dog. I told my teenager it is because he is my favorite child . Never smarts off to me. Loves me unconditionally.

I have a mini Dachshund and she sleeps in a crate at the end of our bed, its got lovely fluffy blankets and bed inside and got a blanket covering the roof and sides so she just loves to burrow into it at night with a couple of treats. I dont ever close her into it either she goes in at her own choice and can come out when she wants. When we initially had her she slept in our kitchen but she hates her own company and used to howl every night so she is loving life being able to be in our bedroom but have her own space too. I would be too afraid of her with us during the night as if we rolled on her she would suffocate. But during the day she takes herself upstairs and will either go into her crate or lie at the bottom of our bed and stare out the window. In the evenings she sits on top of me on the sofa, being beside me isnt enough
She doesnt moult but even if she did I wouldn't care - I was raised with long hair German Sherpherds and they moulted a lot so I am well used to that situation.
My dog is my baby though, I absolutely adore her, potientially more than my partner at times!

Also forgot to add that I mostly WFH so I have an office upstairs in the spare room and when I am at home my dog goes into my bedroom to chill - but I work with my partner and have a little office type unit container that we work from a few days a week and my dog comes with me to work! She knows when we are going and sits beside the front door waiting to be carried into the car. We are in the office today and she is currently curled up in her bed but keeping a watchful eye on the door. Dachshunds may be small but she is the best security dog I have ever had, her bark is HUGE!
Like I say, I am obsessed with my dog. She is the best company ever, where I go she comes too!

my frenchie is allowed on the sofa, though he rarely ever lays on it (standing on the back of it to look out the window is a different story ) but he isn't allowed upstairs because he's just too naughty

Am so annoyed, my dog has been attacked earlier, he was first attacked 18 months ago, and it's taken alot of hard work for him to trust other dogs, but today was awful, both mine on leads, a dog off the lead went for them, I managed to pick my oldie up, and was trying to get this dog off mine, who had obviously had enough and was having ago back, it was horrendous, I was livid with the other dog owners, now I'm shaken and soo upset.

I’m really sorry to hear this the amount of dogs that come bounding up to mine when on the lead and it’s obvious I’m trying to keep a distance from other dogs it is infuriating. The owner always looks puzzled when my dog starts growling. I’ve started getting really arsey and saying shes on the lead for a reason. A lot of dog owners are completely thick. I really hope your doggy is doing ok!

We have a Jack Russell and there's no way she would not sleep on the sofa or bed. She also has a bed in the kitchen if she wants to use that.

I have a Cavapoo and she is absolutely spoiled rotten. She is allowed on the sofa and anywhere in the house (I’m lucky she doesn’t shed hair at all). She does have a crate downstairs that she sleeps in at night but when I’m between my night shifts she sleeps on my bed. She comes and sleeps on my bed in a morning as I’m getting ready too. My daughter often says I love Mabel more than her. What can I say? Mabel listens far more than a 12 year old

everyone I'm a regular tattle reader and have contributed to other threads but came across this one the other night and am enjoying reading about all your lovely fur babies. I have a yorkie and she is my absolute life she comes everywhere with me except to the supermarket hospital or doctors! Even on holiday!
I just wanted to warn you all to look out for grass seeds this summer because this afternoon while she was on my lap having cuddles I felt something in her cheek and as it was hard I thought it was a sting and when I touched it she yelped! Hubby sterilised some tweezers and carefully pulled it out and was so quick she didn't feel it we've bathed it with antiseptic and am keeping an eye out for infection but it is very clean and not red at all.
She's just had a knee operation and is waiting to get the other knee done so I have painkillers here for when I need them so I gave her half and will give other half before bed tonight, I knew she wasn't herself but couldn't think what was wrong and assumed it was knee pain!! She's comfortable now and sleeping beside me.

I just wanted to warn people to check their dogs fur after a walk especially if the grass is long( which it was on our last walk.

We bought a cockerpoo to be trained as a therapy dog for our ASD son. Researched a few breeds and cockerpoo seemed to suit our family and sons needs/ training and typical temperament. He’s awesome and I’d happily hand over £3k for another knowing what a dog can bring to our family.

Sorry lack of sleep, I was just saying how expensive pups are now.
Kudos to you for researching a dog which fits into your life, it just annoys me how some folk have a dog cos it's the new craze, like back along a dog was more like a hand bag accessory.

I’ve had dogs all my life, they were never allowed on the sofas when I was young and lived with my parents but I let them on my bed. They never slept there all night though.

Now I have my own house with my partner and we have a pug. He used to sleep on the old couch in our flat but since we moved to a house and got a new couch he doesn’t get up on it. It’s leather so I wouldn’t mind if he did but he chooses not to.

He lies at the end of our bed on a blanket at night while we watch TV before bed, but goes into his own bed in the spare room when we go to sleep.

His snoring would wake the dead!

My sofa is my dogs bed. Even though we bought him a very expensive actual dog bed. He is allowed on the hooman beds but he rarely sleeps with us.

Yep my dog sleeps on the sofa.

At the moment he isn’t allowed upstairs (the cat hates him so she has the upstairs, he has the downstairs he’s a cockapoo and doesn’t moult, so eventually he will be allowed upstairs x

My old dog wasnt allowed on bed or sofa, new dog is all over both. New dog is about a fifth of size of old dog

My beautiful boy sleeps on the sofa but not allowed in the bedrooms, he has a bed on the landing and one downstairs so he can choose where to sleep!

We have a 4 month old lab. Growing up both our parents never let our family dogs upstairs / on the sofa so we said we’d do the same, but the day we bought that 8 week old puppy home... I couldn’t sit on the sofa and watch tv without a cuddle!? So now he helps himself to the sofa whether we are on it or not, but I always ensure there is a blanket on there as although I love him I am a bit too in love with my expensive sofa to let it get hairy etc. (Even before the dog I hoovered it weekly). He’s now started climbing the stairs and does enjoy a mooch about but I don’t think I’d like him sleeping upstairs with me. I tried it once last week when I was alone but he cried and ran back to his crate, he feels cosy and safe there I think so we will continue to crate him at night. (Don’t crate hate me). When he’s done with the crate eventually he’ll have free roam of downstairs, currently has beds in the kitchen and living room so imagine they’ll both stay.

I have a golden retriever and I was the same way. I said he didn't need to be in the sofa and that lasted not even the first day. We used to crate him at night but when he got neutered he freaked out in the crate with that cone on. So I left him out and he has been out ever since. He does not sleep in bed with us (goldens shed sooo much, plus he is huge). He usually sleeps on the sofa or lays next to my bed. Unfortunately he does not have a dog bed because all he wants to do is hump it or shred it to pieces.

My dog used to be attached to my bed at night. She wouldn't sleep anywhere else. But we moved last year and now she sleeps on my oldest's bed with him at night because she's scared of the loft bedroom where my husband and I sleep.

Thankfully my oldest is happy to have her and I'm glad to have the bed space back He just lays her blanket over the bed at night for her to sleep on.

My dachshund loves to be off the lead, sniffing and chasing his ball. Fortunately I live in an area of dog lovers and nobody wants to have to keep their dog on the lead especially in fields or open spaces. He’s allowed on the sofa but not on the bed. Although he gets on the bed when I’m asleep so I often don’t realise he’s there till morning!

I live in an area of dog lovers, but all it takes is for someone to turn up, thinking their dog is ok, and letting it off the lead and attack, you've been lucky, I wouldn't wish what I've had to go through today on any caring dog owner.

I’m glad it’s not just us! it’s so sweet, we’ve put a little bit of carpet down in it and he has his bed and his toys in there, we just need to add a little press on light for him (we recently had to isolate and it was made to kill some time while we were stuck indoors!) We have kept the cupboard door for it for the next owners when we eventually sell in case they’re not big dog people like us and would prefer a normal cupboard personally, I think you should definitely keep the doggy bedroom

Agreed! I want to keep it and take it to the next level.
