I hope somebody can give me some advice.
Getting a house built and we can’t wait to be homeowners and be able to have a dog. We’ve had cats before (I love both cats and dogs don’t come for me), but since they passed we weren’t allowed other pets while renting.
My question is about flooring options that work best with dogs. We were thinking of laminate but were told to steer clear in case puppy has an accident. Any advice?

We have laminate all over and had no issues with both dogs.

If a dog is toilet trained well there wont be loads of accidents.

My oldest dog was completely reliable within 3 weeks. My youngest dog was reliable within 10 days of bringing him home.

Dont use pads, out every 30-45 mins and after every play, sleep and eat and youl be laughing. We use dog bells on the back door from the get go and both dogs have picked it up so quickly. Dogs want to please you

Edit - unless you mean like a physical accident, slipping/sliding. Make sure there paw pads are shaved regularly if theyre a breed with overly furry feet and shouldnt be an issue x

Some people are ultra thick and don’t understand that. I’ve had problems with Labradors before. In the local park one day, A male came up to my female medium size dog and jumped on top of her and slammed her to the ground. There were three of us there and we pulled him off her. We called the number on his tag and the owner had already left the park and somehow left the dog behind. Unbelievable. Was your dog injured?

I know, and it's not down to what people think are the aggressive breeds, my boys have met all sorts, but labradors and boxers have been the worst. No thank god, I've had a good check over of him, but it's the mental side I now have to deal with, again, plus me taking them out and not showing anxiety, just soo annoyed .

Thanks all! The vet has recommended we switch to Royal Canin Hypoallergenic food to see if that helps. She's also going to prescribe him some steroid ear drops once the infection has cleared.

Absolutely I live with 3 humans and 1 dog and he’s my favourite. Does as he’s told, never leaves me side if I’m ill and brings me a blanket when I get onto the sofa at night. Eats the food I give him despite it being the same thing every day. He is so responsive and seems to know exactly how I’m feeling.

My dog is spoilt so she goes between dog food and human food but yeah she's there for me when I'm Ill or my anxiety is playing up she's so good knowing how I'm feeling

I have a toy poodle. She dozes wherever she wants in the day but at bedtime goes to her crate. She sometimes leaks wee, and if it is on our bed it is so much epic laundry as opposed to one throw blanket or cushion if she leaks during a snooze during the day on the sofa.

My mum has a toy poodle (he was my 18th birthday present but picked her) he’s always liked weeing on beds.. I think I got off lucky

People make it more difficult than it needs to be imo.

Puppy pads are the work of the devil. I will die on this hill. Yes dog toilet indoors but only on these mats. There are people I know whos dogs are still toileting occasionally indoors years down the line and its baffling to me.

Consistency and positive rewards and dogs thrive.

I was the same, never used puppy pads just used to take him outside really regular and praise him like crazy and he was fully toilet trained in a few days, yes we had the odd accident but not many. We had a dog flap installed so he just used to retake himself off out for the toilet whenever he needed.

My sis in law used puppy pads and didn't even bother trying to toilet train her dog! I looked after him for a week when he was about 6 months old and he just followed my dog and learnt his routine and he was toilet trained within the week I had him. Guess what? Sister in law was furious with me because it meant she had to get up in a morning to let him out as he would no longer go on the puppy pads .

We no longer have our dog he died a few weeks back and honestly life is so hard without him and I feel so empty and sad but god he was the most amazing dog and I feel blessed to have had him in my life for those precious years.

My staffy knows to only go on the sofa if her bed is on it, and she goes in that. She goes on the bed when we’re in work (we have cameras to check she is ok.. she’s a rescue and was awful at being left for a long time) but we cover the bed with a blanket during the day. She knows she can’t go on it when we’re home and there’s no blanket

I respectfully disagree that dogs should be kept on a lead, mine lives for ball chasing and I don’t see why he should be punished because of the few naughty dogs. I’d happily muzzle him if required but he needs a good run off lead or he’d never tire!

I’m specifically referring to social distancing rules now, not generally.

My dogs were always allowed on the sofas and beds. They used to just climb up and help themselves and trying to stop them was futile. Besides, I loved having a cuddle with them when they used to greet me of a morning. I owned Dalmatians.

My dog isn't allowed upstairs so no beds. He is allowed on the sofas but he doesn't sleep on them overnight - he's got a basket in the kitchen for that.

everyone I'm a regular tattle reader and have contributed to other threads but came across this one the other night and am enjoying reading about all your lovely fur babies. I have a yorkie and she is my absolute life she comes everywhere with me except to the supermarket hospital or doctors! Even on holiday!
I just wanted to warn you all to look out for grass seeds this summer because this afternoon while she was on my lap having cuddles I felt something in her cheek and as it was hard I thought it was a sting and when I touched it she yelped! Hubby sterilised some tweezers and carefully pulled it out and was so quick she didn't feel it we've bathed it with antiseptic and am keeping an eye out for infection but it is very clean and not red at all.
She's just had a knee operation and is waiting to get the other knee done so I have painkillers here for when I need them so I gave her half and will give other half before bed tonight, I knew she wasn't herself but couldn't think what was wrong and assumed it was knee pain!! She's comfortable now and sleeping beside me.

I just wanted to warn people to check their dogs fur after a walk especially if the grass is long( which it was on our last walk.

I'm giving mine a comb with a flea comb when we get home as that seems to get them out. It's a nightmare as he's long haired, so very easily missed. Doesn't help that the council are leaving all the verges wild, so even pavement walking seems to pick them up at the moment.

We have an almost 3 year old Lab. He isn’t allowed upstairs (occasionally he will sneak up if we leave the stair gate open to nap in front of the window) but he is allowed on the sofa. We let him have the sofa after he had his little boys op because his crate didn’t seem fair after he’d had an operation and it just stuck. He does also have a little bedroom under the stairs where his proper bed and toys are so he will go between there and the sofa we tend to keep him away from the upstairs though as it’s all fairly new carpet and Labrador hair is a NIGHTMARE to hoover up

Hey! First time poster to this thread... but would love to start something on tattle, where people can post pictures of their walks with their dogs. Obviously it shouldn't be in any way revealing, just like a landscape picture or something funny that the dog does. Is that something that other people may be interested in?

We're in the process of buying a house from a couple with a lab and they've also created a bedroom for him under the stairs! Trying to convince my husband to keep it as a room for our dog instead of using it for storage.

I’m glad it’s not just us! it’s so sweet, we’ve put a little bit of carpet down in it and he has his bed and his toys in there, we just need to add a little press on light for him (we recently had to isolate and it was made to kill some time while we were stuck indoors!) We have kept the cupboard door for it for the next owners when we eventually sell in case they’re not big dog people like us and would prefer a normal cupboard personally, I think you should definitely keep the doggy bedroom

Really torn on the pricing subject.. on one hand I really hope it means people put more thought into getting a dog, so many people get puppies on a whim which at over a £1000 for most breeds now a lot if people can’t just do that. On the other hand it’s worrying that breeders can cash in on their dogs and have more and more litters. I just wish there was more legislation.

Sorry but I wouldn't pay that, I think since first lockdown folks thought, we'll get a dog, that's good for the dog to have company all the time for a while, but then folks go back to work leaving their new young pup alone, there's going to be alot of dogs needing rehoming soon
