Our dog enjoys curling up on the sofa while we watch TV, and he always comes up with me when I go to bed and he falls asleep on the bed. Until Mr HL comes up and takes him downstairs to his own doggie bed.

Yorkies here too and I’m pinned in place every night with one between my legs and one down the side of me ! I think it depends on the breed for me, Iv had a lab who didn’t set foot upstairs or on the couch but small dogs that go anywhere they please.
Just read about the attacks, it really grinds my gears when people think because theyre dog is usually ok that they should just run up to everyone else’s dogs. We had a spaniel attack my yorkie, mine were on the lead and the spaniel ran in to him with such force he actually strangled himself on my dogs lead and just turned on him. It was awful and took ages for the owner to appear. Her response was “he’s normally fine”. If your dog is off lead and nowhere near you or not responding to you that’s not ok in my eyes. We had another experience yesterday on a sand dune at the beach. My daughter was standing on a ledge of a sand dune and someone let their dog run up to her, the dog seemed lovely but it was almost the size of her and she got a huge fright, jumped off the dune and really hurt herself. The owner didn’t even respond.

When you walk her and she goes is she always on a lead? If she is maybe put her on a lead when she goes out in the garden to see if she’ll go then? My grandparents dog won’t go to the toilet in their garden. He only even goes when on walks but will also for example go in our garden.

My dachshund loves to be off the lead, sniffing and chasing his ball. Fortunately I live in an area of dog lovers and nobody wants to have to keep their dog on the lead especially in fields or open spaces. He’s allowed on the sofa but not on the bed. Although he gets on the bed when I’m asleep so I often don’t realise he’s there till morning!

I might end up having 14 days off work at a time every 3 weeks. I think I’m going to be so bored and I’d love a dog to spend time with and be more active. I just don’t know what I’d do when I am working

Chicken is a major cause of allergy. Following an allergy test My Lad has grain free food and an air purifier to help with dust allergies.

I got my lad the Cytopoint injection 2 weeks ago and it does seem to have helped a bit. Getting another in 2 weeks so fingers crossed. Oh imagine if they could talkThanks everyone. I was told by two vets that the allergy test is inaccurate.
My girl was on grain-free food for 5 years but it had no effect on her, positive or negative.
Last week she had a Cytopoint injection. The vet's view was that this was better than steroids for her, (she was on them for 3 months to open her ear due to an abscess & prior to cleaning under anaesthetic), because there are no side effects with the injection.
Sometimes I wish the girl could talk! Best wishes with your dogs!

It is a minefield and difficult to know what is best. Ive opted for BH as cost wise it is affordable vs quality of food.
In an ideal world Id feed raw but with youngish kids about Im reluctant to start due to the germ issue.
How is your little one? We got a black pug back in May

Hi everyone. I see this thread is dead but wondered of anyone had experienced anything similar. Our girl (floppy eared), has had recurring ear infections for most of her life. This time it's yeasty and she's being swabbed on Monday. In the meantime our vet told us to switch to a food with hydrolysed protein, (two were suggested and we picked one from that), which she started yesterday. Fortunately she loves it. After 3 months we will challenge her diet with vet guidance. She's started on Wells Z/D. After 2 days I've already noticed a difference in her stools - less odour, less flatulence and no mucus.
What are the most common protein allergies in your experience? It costs a bomb and her insurance has just gone up to £90 p/m. Ugh. I'll do anything for her of course.

Can you make her dinner time any later? Try and figure out how long she takes to go after her morning meal and plan that way. It can be smaller meals and then a supper at 9pm then up early to let her out. What’s your garden like, does it have grass? Some dogs won’t go in yards/small spaces. You could try getting a patch of turf and cover it in pee. You might need to look nuts on a walk and collect some or get other dogs to wee on it. Whenever I’ve toilet trained my dogs in the past I’ve calmly put them out after accidents using something like “wee wee” and made a big fuss when they went. I also throw those tiny treats on the ground to encourage sniffing which makes them want to go.
