Before we got our dog I was adamant that she would not be allowed upstairs, not on sofas or beds etc. 11 months in and she is allowed everywhere, sleeps on our bed and is spoilt rotten She is a Vizsla so hardly sheds and is always very clean. I hate that 'wet dog' smell....urgh...but she is short haired and really doesn't smell bad at all (she is bathed weekly just in plain warm water, and I bought this lush dog spray that makes her smell )

I am surprised at how attached I have become to her tbh. I have always been a cat person really, and the dog purchase was very much driven by my husband and kids. Ironically she is 100% my baby now and I never anticipated the love I would feel for her. I can't imagine our life without her now, and couldn't give a shiny shit if someone judges me for allowing her on our bed

I was just wondering if all you dog owners let your dogs lie on your bed/sofa etc? personally I cant stand to see it esp in beds .

One dog right now is sleeping on the pillows behind my head the other two are on the floor one at the side of the bed the other at the bottom. They are allowed anywhere they want, sleep wherever they want. The two on the floor don't bother going on the bed but do go on the sofa from time to time when I'm not home. Two of the dogs are rescue dogs so they can do whatever they want to do for comfort. All you need is a damn good Hoover because all three shed like crazy!!

I lost my boxer in August, I got her when I was 19 and she was like my child. It took me weeks and weeks to get used to her not being on my bed with me. She’d slept with me from being 8 weeks old. She was the cleanest dog and never smelt. And I found sleeping with her very soothing.

The price of pups have rocked during covid, I didn't believe it until I had a look, I bought my last boy ( border collie) 2 years ago for £200, now you can't one for less than £1000, and am sorry will upset some folk, but a mix breed fetching thousands, they used to be called Heinz 67 or mongrels in my younger days, think there's going to be alot of rehoming later this year when folks go back to work and leave a young dog at home

Your opinion might change when you actually get a dog. My mom has never been a dog person and has always been grossed out by my dog getting in bed even just for a cuddle (it's so relaxing). But when she sat my dog and I came home when she was in bed guess who I found cuddled up in her arms

Yes! I read a quote a while ago that said that we have a life separate from our dogs, they don’t have that, we are there whole life, they don’t have anything but us. I only got my first dog 3 years ago and I will admit that before I got him I didn’t get it, I really didn’t, thought dog people were weird. Now I have my own I fully admit I was wrong.

Also this quote from Marley & Me gets me every time. I well up.

“A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water logged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. my MIL has a little dog. He’s beautiful and so well behaved. He’s only allowed in the kitchen. So, when they watch telly, he sits there on his own. All the time, just in the kitchen. Why bother having him?

Absolutely I live with 3 humans and 1 dog and he’s my favourite. Does as he’s told, never leaves me side if I’m ill and brings me a blanket when I get onto the sofa at night. Eats the food I give him despite it being the same thing every day. He is so responsive and seems to know exactly how I’m feeling.

I don’t have a dog how ever my brother has a pug. I remember stopping over for the night after getting very drunk at his Christmas party woke up early hours to his dog asleep on the pillow right above my head. I’ve never heard a dog snore so loud before

Hi! That’s so kind! It’s been so good so far. Dogs have been getting on so well. We had cries for the first few nights from pup, then early EARLY morning barks from our older dog, so we let them sleep together and been perfect since Ralf (pup) has been so good at toilets too!! Bless em.

Nope and nope. We bought expensive furniture prior to having a dog and don't want it to smell or get his hairs engrained in the material. We have hardwood on the main floor and a few area rugs, he knows not to walk on the rugs. He is not allowed upstairs on the carpet either. He is a Frenchie but sheds a lot.
He has a lot of beds around the house so doesn't seem to mind or know any different. Although in our basement we have a cheap sofa which if we are watching tv down there or I am using the gym he can go on it. Also, because he's a Frenchie we wipe his bum with baby wipes as they're too short to clean it themselves...if you have a Frenchie and don't do that, I highly recommend that you start . We will probably do that with any dog we get now after seeing what comes off him

My dogs sleep on my bed. I used to live on my own and was always quite scared at night. I never felt alone when they were with me and it just carried on. I couldn’t be without them on the bed now. I now have a fiancé and a baby. The baby sleeps in his own cot, we don’t cosleep so that was never an issue. My OH wasn’t impressed when we first got together. But he wouldn’t be without them on the end of the bed now. They are small and medium. Luckily we have a large bed so there is plenty of room.

What’s wrong with Licking plates....surely you wash them after?!

I do but we don't let our dog eat human food (he rarely gets some meat from the roast) and he licks his arse so I'm not a fan of him licking anything. Same with my cats. They have their plates, we have ours. It turns my stomach the thought of it.

Haha I knew there was a reason why I refused to ever watch that film again. Absolute tear jerker, but so right.
Dogs enrich our lives so much and ask for so little.
